I'm finally sending my new CM9 back to Kahr today. They're going to inspect it to make sure everything is just as it should be. They will first try to repair (if possible) the two defects (ding in the slide & slightly warped, sharp edge on rear top of frame). If repair not possible they will replace both the frame and the slide. I told them replacement would be my choice.
Kahr told me I could return it to the dealer through whom I purchased it and they would send me another new gun, but this would have been a pain in the neck, requiring a lot of driving (no one's giving gasoline away - even here in Texas!). It was easier and cheaper to send it back directly to Kahr, besides it is a new gun and will look like a new gun when I get it back from Kahr.
The hard part is waiting to get it back.

It should be worth the wait. Your CM9 up and running will make an excellent concealed carry gun.

I trust that you realize Kahr will return the gun via an FFL if they replace the frame. The serial number plate is molded in place, so they have no option but to provide a new serial number (thus the FFL requirement) whenever they replace a frame.
I only mention it so that you can choose a nearby FFL to share with Kahr for the return process, if necessary.
Best of luck! Kahr recently replaced a PM40 frame for me and the results are excellent. :D

Thanks. Yeah, I knew that, but it always helps to be reminded - my memory isn't what it once was... I found one FFL who only charged $10, but it would have cost me $12 in gasoline to get to him and back. I found one very close who charged $20, so I made arrangements with him. Now I have to endure the wait. The new Silent Thunder Slim II holster in OD with natural leather liner will probably arrive before my replaced or repaired CM9. That will only increase the pain of waiting!

It always sucks to return new toys when all you want to do is play with them. Best of luck on getting your new gun back asap.

Thanks. You hit the target dead center. My impatience is sure not because I don't have anything else to shoot - I just really wanted to play with my new toy.

The spread in my part of Texas is from a low of $10 to a high of $35, with the most typical being $30. I've never even heard of the transfer fee being less than $10 or more than $35. I've always felt like anyone who charges more than $20 doesn't really want to handle transfers.
I've never heard of an FFL charging an additional fee for the background check.

Hou TX Metro area ranges from $15 to $85, The brick and mortar gun shops and the shooting ranges charge the most. It's been over three years since I saw a $10 FFL fee. But there are alot of $20 to $25 transfers available if you search.

I have found gun stores to be the highest. I guess they really want to stick it to you because you didn't buy the gun from them. I know one local shooring range/gun store that charges over twice what the independent gunsmith charges them for any work done on customers' guns. Talk about Snidely Whiplash? Let me introduce you to Craven Bamboozle!
My FFL is not a gun store or a dealer. Actually, he owns a Radio Shack and a jewelry store, and does the FFL stuff on the side. He charges $20. And he's 1/4 mile from my home.

With other gun manufacturers, an FFL is not required for a replacement frame under warranty unless your state requires that the new frame be registered. They'll deliver it right to your front door with adult signature required.

it is very confus9ng and I don't think it is a state law but I have had 3 frames replaced by kel tek yearsw ago and all they did was restamp the same serial number on the new frame, which I am told by Kahr that that cannot be done and that the serial number lives and dies with the original gun it was made for, so the frame should have been destrolyed and a new serial umber put on the new frame. Seems like a long wqay around the merry go round, so ur gonna get different stories. I tend to think that the serial number "should"
live and die with the original gun. I know with Motorcycle frames such as Harley Davidson, if u want a new frame, they want the original frame downtube cut off with the serial number of the bike and they will then send u or sell u a new frame WITH THE EXACT SAME SERIAL number, so is this HD policy or some federal law???I don't know.
Why kel tek has been oing this I would assume is legal to or they would not be doing it.

Sometimes it is easier to not "fight city hall". Kahr may be making an effort to be squeaky clean after being successfully sued when some guns got out of their inventory several years ago. Admittedly, they had a bad employee who stole the weapons, but they ended up paying a substantial amount of money ($600,000) not to mention their legal fees. The usual actors were on the scene as indicated by the quote below. Full story at this link (http://www.telegram.com/article/20110727/NEWS/107279896/1116)

many years ago I sent back for one of my customers a Charter 38 under cover to charter for repair. Months went buy and nothing so my cusomter was also a reserve poiice offer and he said I am gonna turn this in to NCIS just in case. We pressured charter for this gun and they finally siad they could not find it but did acknowledge they recieved it, as I had a signed receipt that they did so. they replaced the msssing charter with a new gun, difference serial number. We registered it with our cusomter and he was happey abouyt 5 years or so later we get a call from the NYPD dettectives inqiring about this gun . I told them the story etc and they informed me the gun wa sused in a homicide in NY and they were tracing it back to the selling dealer (me) and to proceed forward. After I explained what allhappened, he said, mor ethan likely it wa stoeln by an inside charter empolyee. That was the last I ever hear fropm theNYPD or anythingon that gun. So kahr was not the only one. I would bet his happens more often than we think to, . Hellof a fine for kahr to pay for something that a fokking thier did.

I wonder if your tale of long ago had any influence on my current tale of woe (see below)?
Kahr recommended that I send my pistol back to them directly for warranty work by way of either UPS or FEDEX - overnight! Prepaid! It cost me $73.14 to send my brand new CM9 back to them by FEDEX overnight! $73.14!! They sell me a new pistol that's dinged up and I have to pay $73.14 for the privilege of receiving a dinged up new gun (disappointing), sending it back to them for either repair or replacement of dinged up parts (aggravating), and waiting to receive it back from them before I can even clean it and take it to the range for the first time (irritating). $73.14 out of my pocket for something I had nothing to do with (infuriating). Now, I know that we human beings sometimes make mistakes - I've made at least my fair share - but I don't think I should have to pay for a mistake that Kahr made - especially not $73.14!!! Does anyone think this is reasonable? Or good business?

I inject that it isn't over yet. I'd call to check status and inquire about the possibility of reimbursement of your shipping cost.
I believe I've heard that they maintain they are not responsible for shipping cost but they usually do.
This certainly seems like a warranty issue. I suspect they would refund or offer something to make up for your shipping fees, stuff, mags or something.
I definitely either by phone or email would express your concerns.
They are very busy I suspect and may not be aware of your unhappiness. Give them a chance to fix it for you.

Thanks, Bawanna. I intend to email them, but I wanted to wait a few days to get over my irritation - being snippy won't accomplish anything good. It never hurts to be nice - in fact, it usually helps a great deal.

Edzachary. Being nice usually wins the day in most cases. I'm sure our people at Kahr appreciate it more than words can describe.

From whom did you purchase the gun? If you bought it in person why did you accept a dinged up gun? If you bought it on line why did you accept it from the FFL that it was delivered to all dinged up? Just wondering.

I got you all beat. My 20.00 FFL is across the street from my workplace.
On wednesdays there is a barbeque truck in his parking lot. Tasty
