i posted a thread on here a while back asking about 1911 mags in the cw45 and i got a response about another person using colt commander mags but having to modify them...well if you havent tried the wilson combat compact magazines yet then go ahead because i did and they functioned flawlessly 7rd mag locks up nice and tight and holds the slide back afte the mag is empty and every where ive looked for the cw45 mags when theyre in stock run about $42 and the wilson mags are only $32 and i think they are a better mag(imo)...they dont fit all the way flush but pretty close with the bump pad on it sticks out about 3/8 to 1/2 inch and if you remove the rubber bump pad it just barely sticks out..any way thought id share that for the ones that didnt already know...happy shooting

Does the top of the feed lips rub against the striker assembly? That's the problem I've run across when using 1911 type mags. I just file the feed lips down until they don't rub. I did that with a 10 round Pro-Mag and it works ok for the range, not sure I'd want to depend on it in a SD situation.

Is this the one you're talkin' about?

Did you have to change the spring or follower?

Picture of it in your Kahr?

I was just checking a Chip McComick Shooting Star 8 round mag in my CW45, seems to function well and holds the slide back. Has a bit of magazine sticking out of the bottom of the gun, but otherwise seems to work ok. Will test it out further on my next range trip. The feed lips didn't seem to rub on the striker assembly either. It's worked well in my 1911's.

If you go to CDNN Sports Inc you can get their 1911 Officers 45acp 7rd MET45S290 magazine for $9.99 each. Then go to Midway USA and get their Wilson Combat magazine rebuild kit part number 171154 for 7.99 each. Just file the lip of the magazines for clearance and you have a perfectly operating 7 round completely flush fit magazine that locks back after last round. I built 3 of them this way. They cost me $22.65each shipped.

Does anyone have any pictures of these modded mags? I just bought a P45 with 4 6-round mags and would like a 7th round option without a bunch more mag sticking out the bottom of the pistol.

My LGS has 7 round Kahr magazines for $35.00 I guess I better jump on that before someone else does. I'm pretty sure he got it when he ordered my CW45 I bought a 7 round Magazine then but I could ways use another.

New member here. Since I have never owned a Kahr before now (always been a firm 1911 fan, but CCW situations dictate a much lighter weapon), I haunted this forum for a while trying to make up my mind. I have had my CW45 now for just over a week. Shoots great and seems to feed most anything I put in it.

This thread (and others similar) got me to thinking about the drawer full of older style 1911 magazines I have accumulated. I tried several and found that they worked fine other than locking back the slide after making the lip reduction mentioned. Looking them over I could see that in order to relieved the lips enough for clearance, some of the curve built into the lips had been filed away which allowed the follower to shift to the right (as looking from the rear) and to not contact the locking tab. Using flat-jawed pliers, I gently reformed the lip radius to tighten the fit and the slide now locks every time (so far...lots of testing to still do). This also had the benefit of making my SWC bullets feed straighter into the chamber than when feeding from the factory mag.

Just a thought, and I'm sure others have figured this out by now. Thanks for all of the info that allowed me to make my choice!

I just assembled 3 magazines just as Henry suggested and they work great. The only issue is that they now cost 12.99 per each Metalform mag instead of 9.99

Thanks Henry ;-)

Has anybody gone and used these mags at the range for a good length of time? It sounds like it should work just fine. Will they last without failure?

I was just coming on to look for the 1911 thread. I used the 8 round magazine that came with my Rock Island Armory 1911. It fit good (with the bottom extended out a little), functioned perfectly, and locked the slide back. Lots of RIA owners complain about this magazine. I have had zero issues with it in my RIA, and now I have an 8+1 magazine for my CW45.
Life is good.
I have 3 other 1911 mags. One locked in, and the other two didn't. Not sure what brand this magazine is, but it stovepiped the last round coming out of the magazine.
