View Full Version : WOW, the parts Kahr sent me DID fix the problem

My new CW40 quickly developed the habit of dropping the magazine on the last shot, which I mentioned here. I was offered a couple logical suggestions, which I tried to no avail. E-mailed Kahr and they offered to send me the parts or a return slip and I opted for the parts. I've always enjoyed working on firearms and in a younger and thinner version of myself I spent several years as an Army Armourer.

The mag release and follower arrived last night and I installed them. Tonight when I got home I went out behind the barn and burned up half a box of ammo shooting dandelions. I only loaded three rounds at a time in the mag because it was a last shot problem but every thing functioned fine. Fed, fired, extracted, ejected and the slide locked back on the last shot.

I did have one near miss though. After my wife shot the CW40 at the range Tuesday night I thought she was going to claim my new pistol as her own. With her first magazine she kept all shots inside a 6" paper plate at 30'. Then she got the hang of it and her shooting improved a little. A friend has a PM9 but my wife feels that is too small for comfortable shooting. So tomorrow we are going to look at a CW9 for her. Seems to her like a good compromise between comfortable size and lower recoil than a 40.

So thanks for your suggestions. I'll take it to the range tomorrow for a more thorough test but I think the bugs are worked out. Next step is ordering 40 S&W dies.

before u jump into a cw9 for her, seeif she can hand rack ur cw40 slide, if she can't properly do that , then she willnot be ble to dothe cw9 as the springs are the same strength. Most woman just have a hell of a time hand racking kahrs, due to stout springs. anyone can pull the trigger but clearing a jam, or unloading the gun is a must for any woman to..

Good point but neither my wife or daughter had trouble racking the slide on the CW40 or clearing jams caused by the dropping magazine. Years ago I taught them the Hold the slide with your weak hand thumb facing toward you, push the pistol forward with your strong hand method.

One thing that really surprised me about this pistol though was the lack of sensitivity to how it is held. I carried a Keltec P11 for a while and limp wristing that pistol would cause a stovepipe in a heart beat. After watching my daughter shoot this pistol that does NOT seem to be the case with my particular CW40.

I think the CW9 would be an excellent choice for your wife. The 9MM's recoil is very manageable with the full grip and it give you one more round of ammo per magazine. The price is right, too.

Why no .45 option? My wife carries a CW45, and loves it, of course I have no 9mm policy in my house but still.

When we first met almost 30 years ago she tried out all my firearms and adopted my Ithaca 1911A1. When she obtained her CCW permit she decided the 1911A1 was too large for CCW and adopted my CZ82. I've been married too long to think I can tell her what she should carry. If she thinks she wants a CW9 fine, maybe it will keep her from adopting my CW40.
