I've been watching the series Gangland on Netflix instant view, and wow what an eyeopener for those of us that don't live in gang infested areas. Of particular concern to me was episode 11, which documents how gang bangers were joining the military and getting combat training, and training on clearing houses and such, and then taking that knowledge back to the hood to teach to the other bangers.
It's crazy how some criminals can run a big gang from inside prison. I look at it as another result of the welfare society, where the kids grow up without loving parents because they were conceived to get a bigger paycheck, But even kids with good parents can get caught up in it, with all the money to be made from drugs and prostitution and protection rackets.
Makes me think we ought to use the death penalty more often and eliminate some of these thugs. Of course you have many others ready to step into the vacancy. It was very sad to watch. I guess the MS-13 gang is particularly deadly.

The reason that our crime rate is high is because we tolerate it. If we demanded that it be cleaned up and fired any politician who wasn't up to the job the problem would go away. I watch episodes of Cops and watch the police pull drivers over who are leaving known drug houses. If they are known drug houses, why aren't they raided and shut down by the police? Corruption in government plays a major role in the high crime rate.

With billions of dollars in drug money floating around, i think it's too tempting to take a bribe to look the other way while illegal activity happens. While most of our police and politicians are good honest people, I think it's sometimes difficult to turn down a half a year's salary or whatever to look the other way. They are all human beings, and sometimes temptation is too hard to resist. It's much easier to bust someone leaving a drug house, than to raid it where someone might get shot or something. Plus you shut one down and another springs up, might be easier to just leave the one you know about alone and arrest the people coming and going. I'm just glad I'm not involved on either side, cop or criminal, although I'd certainly help a cop if I could.

I have nothing but the highest respect for our men in blue. I would certainly assist any officer in trouble if I were in a position to do so. For the most part they do a thankless job. I considered becoming a police officer, but after spending six years in the military I was told that I didn't meet the height and weight requirements. Ten years later they were hiring women. Three of my best friends are police officers. As far as I know they are good cops. Not long ago NH lost a police Chief and had four officers wounded in a drug raid. I wouldn't have their jobs for all of the tea in China.

What makes me sick is these "sports heros" making millions of dollars a year, while the real heros, our Police and Firemen, barely make a living wage. It's even worse with our military, they put their lives on the line for barely above minimum wage.

dead right, I just read where some of the TSA people were letting drug people get through the check out lines because the were getting paid to look the other way. I am sure there are LEOS takeing brides. they aren'
t all honest cops. Just the nature of the beast...

TSA is a joke, it doesn't surprise me one bit they take bribes. I think most of them couldn't get a real job. A bunch of ignoramuses that are given a bit of power and boy do they abuse it. They let Arabs right thru so they are not seen as "profiling" then give a child in a body cast the full shake down. Or hassle a kid with cerebal palsey. This Political Correct crap is really screwing up this country. I just refuse to fly anywhere. I'm not subjecting myself to their patdowns and crap. If I can't get there on two wheels, I'm not going, and if it's to a state that doesn't reciprocate with my CC permit, I'm not going either.

I enjoy watching Gangland too. Our DVR is mostly for my wife and kids but this is one of the few shows we record for me. There is certainly some disturbing stuff on there. Sometimes it's good to be reminded that there's another side to our otherwise cozy world.

You should see the Oakland episode of Gang Wars. One of them pulls the magazine out of his gun and shows off some "purple bullets" to the camera saying they'll paralyze you no matter where you get hit with them. It's a snap cap.
My area has some gang activity but obviously they're not the smartest. On a rare occasion they might do a home invasion or rob someone on the street but otherwise they usually keep the violence among themselves.

My solution to the gang problem in the cities and in this country:
Round up ALL known persons who are in gangs and/or have gang ties. Confiscate any and all firearms/weapons during said roundup.
Convert local sports stadiums/areans/play grounds to safely enclose said gangsters/wannabes. Pile the confiscated firearms/weapons in the center of the field/court/play ground.
Blow the whistle and let them go at it. Last one standing wins. What does said winner get? A one way ticket to a penal colony in Antartica, naked.
I know, not very PC of me, but it would solve the problem. Same could be said for drug dealers.
