I've read about the magazine drop issues as well as other issues with these guns, but I've also read that this was the early CW45's that has these issues.
My LGS has a brand new CW45 that has the metal magazine catch, did the metal mag catch solve the magazine drop issue? Also it has a serial number prefix of "SE" assuming this is a current production gun is it a safe bet and has Kahr worked out the bugs in these guns? I have a Glock 36 now that I like but the Kahr fits my hand like it was made for it,so what's the low down on these guns? Thanks

I bought one that is recent production and I didn't have a single problem with it. The mag catch and slide stop both had no issues. It fed an assortment are different JHPs and ball ammo without a hiccup. The chamber on these guns is a little tight at first but it slowly begins to loosen up with every round. I wouldn't worry about buying one, considering the value and good CS from Kahr.

I don't know how current the "SE" designation is but I bought one a few weeks ago.
No problems with the magazine, fed and fired three different brands of ammo with no problems.

I've had two - one about three years ago which was later traded on a PM45, and one I bought this past December. I've had no issues with either one.

Some kahrs have had issues with the next round in the magazine bumping the slide lock lever and locking the slide back before the mag is empty. I had to grind a little off my cm9 slide lock lever.
I just bought a CW45 two weeks ago, and just finished putting 200 rounds through it on Sunday. One FTE (stovepipe) in 200 rounds, and that shooting pretty cheap blazer 230 gr. FMJ. No issues with magazine release or slide lock. It's a beauty. Recoil no worse than the cm9, yet way better fit to my hand, and easier to shoot on target. I love it. That said, the cm9 is still easier to conceal.

Now the 64,000 question would you trade a Glock 36 for a CW45? The fits my handcso much better.
I've got a PM45 with a plastic catch - so far no problems.
The Achilles heel of the Kahr design is the slide stop spring - which serves double purpose: It keeps the slide stop in the frame, and it keeps the slide stop "down" with just enough force so that it cannot bounce up, yet can be moved up (and caught by the slide) when its pushed by the magazine follower. Those can sometimes be tricky to regulate. So far, no problems on any of my three PM's... but the CW's and CM's, and P and TP all use the same spring.
Slide stops are well made. Extractors are excellent in design and operation. Strikers are something to forget about (just keep clean), lockwork - cam and trigger... equally problem free, with the sometimes exception of a non-reset (which I suspect is due to a hanging chad of plastic inside a new gun, since you never hear of it happening on old guns....always guns with just a few shots though them).

I shot a G36 extensively (well, about 250 rounds) before deciding to go with a CW45. The grip and trigger of the CW were the deciding factors for me. I've never regretted that choice.

Humm, thatis odd, I thought all the kahr 45 were new enough to have the metal mag catch in them. Most people don't realize that the plastic/polmer magcatch actually had a steel insert i the catch that engages the mag cut out, so it was not a plastic againt metal thing. I peronally thing it was cheaper for kahr to make the metal MIM mag catch over proably a two part prjiec tof making the polymer catch with the steel insert, and there was a tendency back then for the polymer catch to be more ouot of spec than the MIM part was. Just my thoughts. I had the polymer in my PM9 and it never gave one issue but I changedit to the metal when they made their change to metal catch. I gues sin my small mind I thought it was better even though I never had one issue ever...

I did trade a glock 36 for the Kahr CW45 and have never been happier! The Glock was just too chunky, hard to conceal, for me anyway and the Kahr has served me with no problems at all. Also I thought the Kahr was easier to break down to clean. I have never said I wish I had my Glock back! Hope that helps!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

...
I've thought that myself. My CW45 did drop mags and it had a metal magazine latch. The latch Kahr promptly sent me is also metal, but has some extra machine work done to it: http://kahrtalk.com/showpost.php?p=15667&postcount=2

I just bought a cw45 three weeks ago with a serial prefix of SE. I have also owned a G36. The G36 just had too much muzzle flip in my hands. The CW45 is much easier to control and conceal. No mag problems or issues of any kind after the first 50 rds. In fact I think the trigger pull on my CW45 is slightly better than my cm9 and pm9 IMHO.

Poly Kahrs will either have the older style (combo poly/metal (http://i52.tinypic.com/25803zd.jpg)) magazine latch or an all metal one. I personally believe all CW45s have the metal latch and as far as I know, there is no "updated" version of it (rather Kahr has had specially modified latches on hand to address magazine drops in individual guns that develop the issue).

Greg
