Finally picked up my NYPD K9 yesterday. The trigger's even better than I thought it would be. I was surprised to find it a lot lighter than either my LCP or Sig 2022 (double action pull). Like most other's mine is pretty dirty. Grimy even. I'm pretty confident I can get the inside clean, but not sure about the outside. Like I said, it just looks grimy. I was relieved to not find any major scratches or marks though. Any tips on cleaning the outside? I'm really paranoid about messing up the beautiful matte finish.

Also, this is just like Christmas! I've had a bass guitar listed on Craigslist for 2 months. Yesterday a guy traded a Mossberg 500 for my guitar. 2 guns in 1 day. Should'a played the lotto!

Plan on taking both to the range tomorrow.... Pics to follow....

Glad you like your K9. I suggest a light polishing with liquid Flitz. Just rub it on lightly with a soft cotton cloth or cotton squares and off with a clean cotton cloth. You can judge your results each time you do it and proceed from there to the degree of luster you would like. I did my mk40 to make it have the Elite look and my mk9 to even out the original matte finish.

Hi Mike congrats,
Clean her up and take her out, your going to love shooting your new K9. Don't know if you reload, if you don't Walmart seems to be about the best price locally for me for practice ammo.

I can't believe that a police officer would bet his life on a firearm that is that filthy. I know that most cops are not gun guys but that is ridiculous.

Clean her up and enjoy!

to many officers it is a tool, like a hammer to a carpenter. some could care less except the day before inspection..

We have some of our local officers in this small town carrying reloads!!! Does that tellu anything.

Yup, cleaning my NYPD K9 was a bit of a chore, but, it came out looking pretty good.

I put in a new recoil and firing pin spring along with polishing the feed ramp and working over the bore a bit with Hoppes.

I took off the grips of mine and soaked it in "Ed's Red" overnight and then ran Remington Action Cleaner through it. Its sad how much crud was at the bottom of the plastic jug after the soak and spray. :(

New Wolff springs in the magazines was my final contribution to the project.

Just got my Don Hume IWB holster for it and have carried it twice.

what do u expect, they are cops guns and off duty carry at that, some just dont give a rats ass either.More than likely the gun wold have still went bang for at least a full magazine..

awile back I was chatting with a state trooper biker frined of mine and we were talking guns and he took his G17 out to show me and unloaded it also, with slide locked back. I noticed what looks like alot of fuzzy sh!t inside the gun. I commended, how often do u clean it. His comment was well the last time was about 3 months ago the day before our annual inspection and at the same time he said he paid an auto detail shop to detail his Ford cruiser to. GET MY POINT!!!:third:

They are both tools, .... clean when necessary:banplease:

Wow, that was one filthy K9. Nice job on the clean up. Also +1 on the Flitz. Great stuff, and with a dremel you can get mirror finishes. I would freak if one of my guns looked like that. You would think that something used for self preservation would be cared for better.
