Just got back from the range. Took my K9, Sig SP2022, and LCP. Put 100 rounds (50 Federal, 50 WWB) through the K9. Only problem was slide did not lock back after the last round one time. I suspect my thumb was touching the slide release. Accuracy between the 3 was as follows:
Sig in SA- Most accurate.
K9- #2 accuracy, least recoil, #1 for overall comfort.
Sig in DA- #3 in accuracy.
LCP- Last place for accuracy, but #1 for concealment.
I suspect I was slightly more accurate with the Sig because I'm more familiar with it. It is a very good gun. I also suspect after I shoot the K9 more, I will end up shooting it more accurately. It is so smooth, very little recoil, and like everyone says- the trigger is awesome. My best shot group with the K9 was 3 inches at 7 yards. Best with the Sig at 7 yards was about 1.5 inches with 2 stray shots (15 rounds). I won't discuss the LCP shot groups- It's embarrassing! I do know my ability is severely limiting all 3 guns' accuracy!
I was planning on getting wood grips for the K9, but now am having second thoughts- the rubber grips are pretty sweet!
Does anyone have any thoughts on shooting 3 different guns in one trip- at least when trying to improve performance as apposed to just practicing?
One thing's for sure- this K9 has not disappointed me. It's just as great as everyone says. If anyone is on the fence about getting a NYPD K9, I say go for it. In my case, it didn't really fit in my budget right now, so I put one on layaway. It did take 1 1/2 months to pay off, but it's mine now. And the way this sucker's built- I bet it will last a lot longer than me!
Like everyone else said about these NYPD trade ins- mine was pretty dirty when I got it- pics are here: http://kahrtalk.com/showthread.php?t=12818 But it cleaned up fairly easily. Thanks to Jocko for the cleaning tips- they worked great. And after cleaning, it was pretty obvious it hadn't been shot much at all. It has a little holster wear, but I'm going to follow some advice given by Kirby9mm and try some Flitz polish on the outside of the gun. There are no major scratches.
One more note on the quality of this gun- I compared it to my step son's Kimber Pro Carry 2 stainless .45 and I would say the K9 is just as solid. In my opinion, you can't ask for more for 500 bucks!
