Spare parts: What should we keep on hand?

Got a new PM9 with all of 200 rounds through it. I am curious what the Kahr veterans take on spare parts is and what a prepared owner should keep on hand. I tend to get spare parts for pretty much every firearm I have.

I've already stocked up on a spare recoil spring assembly, extractor, extractor spring, slide stop spring striker block spring and striker spring.

I'm not going to keep every part on hand, but was thinking of trigger springs and maybe a mag release spring as well.

Any thoughts or comments?

I never buy any spares until and unless I need them. Then I just order from Kahr or whoever. I have sixteen pistols, so if one is down for a few days, it doesn't really matter.

Magazine release spring is cheap, so why not. The trigger spring is reportedly very difficult to install. In fact, one guy here on the forum was very upset that his local shop sent his Kahr back to the factory because they were having a hard time. So, I think you can skip that part and just plan to send the gun to Kahr for a repair. Never heard of one breaking anyway.

The recoil spring can be helpful for trouble shooting and the slide stop spring is easy to distort, so those are good choices. If you are putting a round in the chamber and then dropping the slide forcing the extractor to climb over the back of the casing, by all means have an extractor and possibly the spring on hand for when it breaks. You might want the little push rod that pushes directly on the extractor to go with the spring since both may make an escape if you trash your extractor. If you load from the magazine, as Kahr expects, you probably won't need those parts. But, hey, if it makes you feel better, why not.

Oh, and if you later acquire a "fotay" (.40 S&W) magazine followers are nice to have.

But, in general, I am in O'Dell's camp. Yeah, I do have spare pistols as well. :D

Same thing here. Though I do have some that I have acquired after changing to something I like better, I can always put the stuff I took off back on if I need to until I get what I like better.

I buy spares not for what might fail, but to replace what I may launch or loose in the shop. I also have magazine springs, slide stops, recoil springs, and firing pins with springs for most of my guns.

Not a bad idea! I usually take things apart in the laundry tub that is mounted in the garage. It has saved me many times. :o

I destroy more parts than actually break. I did have a PM45 slide lock spring with low use break cleanly in two... the only incidence that I've heard of. I've had the nut on the front of the PM45 new recoil spring fly off at the range... pistol still works until you take it apart. I learned how to make my own nut for a spare, but Kahr sent me a new recoil assembly.

I keep spare magazine followers and bases on hand, as well as non-captive recoil springs and slide lock springs for all of the Kahrs. I have a lot of magazines so that I always have extra for the range and extra spares for carry, as well as deployed for the home defense guns. Every pistol should have at least 3 magazines available... more are better. I have at least 6 for each Kahr.
