I'm picking up my new, black PM9 at noon tomorrow. Pretty excited and I'm going to prep it tomorrow night.
Question though: I'd like to take the striker out so I can clean the striker channel (instead of just spraying it out with brake cleaner while it's assembled). I have a few Glocks and know how to do this, but is it the same technique on a Kahr?

Congrats!!! You'll love it!! My PM9 has become my main EDC to the disappointment of many other great guns. I'm actually thinking of adding an MK in the near future and that will cause come EDC angst in the family then... :33:
I'll let the experts talk more about that technical part...I just do the spray treatment myself because I don't want to take the chance of something happening...

If you're familiar with disassembling the Glock and use your noggin', you should have no trouble.
Congrats on your new pistol!

Thanks guys...
I found a few good sources for the detail strip of the slide. Should be no biggie...

Dooger,
If it was my new gun, I would simply spray it, lube it and prep per the stickies.
Go shoot it for 200 rounds and THEN do the full upper strip down.
If there's an issue before you make it to 200rnds and it has to go back to Kahr, it's better not to have stripped the upper down.
They don't shoot them much (if at all) Really only necessary after a large number and then you find brass primer flakes and crud.

Copy that, I won't detail strip it until I've got the 200 rounds through it with no hiccups. Good thought Tinman.
I detail strip my slide about every other cleaning. Extremely easy to do. The logical side of my brain tells me it's totally unnecessary but the anal side (which my wife claims is by far the largest part) requires it, otherwise I get stuck in a "rain man" type of temporal loop.
Not to mention, I enjoy it.

Alright, I picked it up today. I didn't have much time to mess with it, but I couldn't get the slide release out of the gun so I could break it down and clean it. Any suggestions?
I have taken down a Kahr before, but they were a lot looser than this one.

wellif it is tiff, I take a small blade type screwdriver and jus tinsert it under the slide release and once the witness makrs are lined up. it will pop out. Then when I clean it I put a dab of grease on that little spring area to. it will pop out, it has to.

Move the slide back to the marks. Use the butt end of a screwdriver to pop the rounded end (right side) of the slide stop out.
Work the slide stop out. Pull trigger and slide forward.
It'll get a lot better after you shoot it.

All done with the disassembly and cleaning. Shooting it tomorrow...
It's already loosened up a bit now that it was taken down once already.
Thanks

i brought a used kahr pm9, which already had the break in rounds from the pior owner, but she still felt pretty tight to me. what i did was is recommended as per the stickies, rack the slide a whole bunch of times watching tv, i also would eject and insert the mags they were a little stcky too, broke it down cleaned it. did 2 more racking sessions with more break downs and cleanings but this time i used gun grease and oil, instead of just oil, she feels way better to me now, still gotta go to the range this weekend, cant wait!

Shot 50 rounds today. No problems! I'll shoot another 150+ in the next two days.

Shot another 50 today, all is good. I'm going to let my wife shoot it tonight and complete the break in. If all goes well, it will be with me on a week long vacation through three different states starting Sunday!
