What round is this spent casing from?

Found this on the ground while out ATVing. None of us could identify it.
The numbers on the back are "22" AND "78".
A caliper says that the inside diameter of the mouth is 0.3140 in or 7.98 mm (roughly).

What do you think?

Perhaps 8mm Rimmed. A rare one that, or perhaps a 7.62x54R it has been fired after all. Hard to say.

Yep, I had some Romanian light ball with that head stamp.

We also found some regular old 45 casings. We had a few guns with us, but just could not bring ourselves to shoot. The scenery was so majestic and peaceful, it just didn't seem like a good idea to make loud noises and send bits of copper and lead flying around.

I agree, It appears to me that it is A Mosin Nagant 762 x54R by it's length and color, and even the color of the sealer around the primer. Every 762x54R round I've ever seen for the Mosin be it brass or metal casing has those numbers on the back edge and the red sealer. Some casing have two sets of numbers like the one your showing others have only one set.

They are a copper washed steel case I believe.
