Any M1 Carbine collectors out there?

My brother has a military issue M1 Carbine with the reciever made by Quality HMC, and the barrel by IBM Corp. Only other markings I can find on the gun is IV on right behind the front sight post, and J1 one the front barrel band/Sling Mount. I has the canvas 2 mag holder on the stock.
It also has the bayonet lug on it.

I saw one very similiar to it listed at some gun shop for $3,000.00
Other sites says its value is in the 2K-3k range.

The metal has no rust, and the stock has some very minor dings in it.

Here is a picture of it. Anyone have any idea what it's really worth?

OH MY, i CAN REMEMBERBACK PROBABLY 40+ years ago whenI bought one through the NRA dcm program for $20, no guarantees the condition or anthing but it would be 100% original.

To my disbelief, whenI got the rifle it was totaly brand new packed heavily i cosmo and oil , absolutely mint, I think and I might be off but I think it was a Rockola MI.

Like an ass (that I am ) and an idiot (that I am) I kept it a few years and sold it.

I have a Quality Hardward and Machine Carbine exactly like that except it doesn't have the bayonet lug. It came right out of a friends uncles duffle bag from WWII. I think he was a office guy or something, don't look like it was ever out of it's canvas bag.
I also got his 1911 which shows more carry wear.

I thought mine was worth 800 to 1000 but your post makes me want to research again. Another guy here has his consigned at a local shop and they said they wouldn't take less than 800 I believe he said and I refinished the stock on that one.

Lets continue to compare notes. Mines not for sale at any price so no worries on competition or anything.

I had never hear of Quality hardwood Maching but wehad singer, Rockola, remington, Ithaca and any other no name gun makers back then doing their military duty.

I think even Singer sewing machine was building guns if my memory is working at all.

Certainly lots of companies that usually didn't make guns were pumping them out.

Some of those are the most valuable of all.

Kind of cool that two of us just here on the forum have Quality Hardware versions. I forget my research but there weren't that many of them.

I've got a nice Inland with an Underwood barrel.

Gunbroker shows a couple of these priced in the normal range of $600-900. There were 360,000 of these made, so they aren't all that rare.

Quality HMC only made the receivers, and accounted for less than 6% of all the M1 Carbine rifles made during WWII. I guess it's more common for them to have Rock-ola barrels on them.
I saw where some had gone for $1200 - $1500 for a buy it now price on one of the auction sites, and one was for sale for $1200 on Armslist. All had Quality HMC receivers.
Jocko, I've read where there used to be racks of them for sale for around $20 back in the 60's, doesn't it make you sick when you sell something then find out if you'd kept it a few years you might have something a lot more valuable?
That's like my P-17 Enfield 30.06, which was the primary weapon used by US soldiers in WWI, since the 03 Springfield was so scarce. It's the weapon that Corporal, later Seargent York used to capture all those Germans he is famous for. I bought it for $150 about 10 years ago, and saw one just like it at a gun show recently with a $1000 price tag on it. Mine was made by Remington and is a very good shooter. At 50 yards it grouped with 2 shots touching in one large hole, and one just barely off to the side about 1/8" from the other two. That was using the standard peep sights. It's kind of neat in that the internal magazine holds 7 or 8 shells instead of 5. It's a heavy dang thing though, probably weighs as much as a garand, maybe more. I'd sure hate to have to tote the thing around. I just keep it oiled and clean and in the closet, letting it accumulate value. British soldiers were issued a P-14 when SMLE's were scarce, which is the same rifle in .303, and I guess they complained about the weight and lacking the 10 round capacity of the SMLE's magazine.
Bawanna, I'll keep researching and let you know what it goes for. I guess I'm in charge of finding it a new home. I'm thinking of putting it on an auction site with a pretty high reserve to see what it will bring.
This makes me wish I had some money lying around I could make my brother a decent offer for it. Who knows what it will be worth in another 10 or 15 years.

could it be that alot of receivers were made by companies that had maching equipmet but the brrels actuallycame from companies that made barrels for a lvin. I cannot fo rth elife telu if my rockola was all rockola or a barrel made by someone else. I never thought if ti back then.

yes thetmanski, Ihave no idea what I sold it for bak then but I am sure uneer 200 bucks, which for me then I was just thinkibng of the profit I made and back then 20 bucks would get ay NRA member one dcm M1, so they were not scarce nor plentiful either, as probably most who boughtone through the NRA was ignorant like I was and stllhave it today. I seen some of the cwm that definitley had been through combat.

Back in my hunting days (BC, before chair) I hunted with a 17 Enfield. I have my grandfathers that was sporterized, that's the one I hunted with. My dad got his the same time my grandfather did. He cut the stock but thankfully didn't touch the metal. I put it back in it's original configuration.

Dads was an Eddystone, my grandfathers was a Winchester. I so wish he hadn't cut the barrel and stuff but again 20/20 hindsight.

I think they both got them for less than 50 bucks each. Back in the day so to speak.

He was gonna give it to my vulture step brother but I fought and won that one. The vulture got everything else. Glad we never lived together or grew up together as kids, he would have died young I think.

I read that it was not at all uncommon for a manufacturer to borrow parts from another manufcaturer if one ran out of parts and the other had a surplus, doing anything they could do to get the rifles into the hands of our soldiers.

Could have used you Sunday Jocko. The vultures came out again asking if their Dad have left them any money, and wanting a copy of the will, no Happy Mothers Day or nothing, just what more can we get. I think they are eyeing the life insurance and wanting part of that, which has nothing to do with the will.
Now why do they want a copy of the will is my question, my guess is to take it to a lawyer and see if it can be overridden somehow. I told Stacy just to tell them it's on the way, and wait until she's moved into her new house and paid for it before she gives them a copy. Screw the little fokkers, shes done more and gave them more than then the Will states, and they are still crying for more. My guess is that since Stacy is going through chemo therapy, they want to have her declared unfit to manage the will, then the oldest son will be the executor. Oh wouldn't that be nice for them so they could take all of Stacy's stuff. I think it's time for Vulture season to open up here pretty soon.

Yeah, what's sad is I've seen no sign of mourning, or anything, just standing there with their hands out wanting more. She has told them they have got everything they are entitled too. She was going to give them more stuff as she ran across things moving out, but now she's said screw that, they're not getting anything else after all the crap they have put her through. At the memorial, there were pictures of David and his ex-wife on the picture boards they made up, and I don't think one with Stacy in it, of course good ole Mom helped them make up the picture boards. They all expected David to lead a sad lonely life with out a lady, and they've hated Stacy since her and David got involved. And more so after they married, especially the youngest, a daughter, that has been a constant thorn in Stacy's side. She's done her best to come between David and Stacy, but it never worked out for her. They've cast Stacy into the evil stepmother role, when she is the kindest sweetest person you'd ever want to know, but his kids never gave her a chance.
She may give them a copy of the will after she's moved and got into her new house and paid for it, and they will have no right to go into the old house since it's owned by the ranch. By then it will be too late for them to do much about it.
