View Full Version : Should I make this trade?

I have an opportunity to acquire an AK that shoots well, a bunch of ammo, and other goodies as well, in an effort to sweeten the deal I mentioned that I might put my beloved P45 in as part of the deal. My plan being that if I do put the P45 in, that I will go toot sweet to the LGS that I know has a few CW45's and come home with one. At the time I didn't see much to be concerned about, but now I'm thinking that I do love my P45. Should I still go through with that, or maybe try to adjust the deal, or stick with the cash?

If you love your P45, it's tried and true, I'd keep it. Look for Peter and rob him, then use the money to pay Paul.

Get a credit card like me, then it's just numbers from the bank, not like real money although they still take it very seriously. No sense of humor from banks.

Trade your wifes CW45, wait, scratch that she's a member here.

I'd look for another way, I forecast seller remorse if you throw the 45 in as trade.

Robbing Peter to pay Paul makes Peter sore and there is little you can do with a sore Peter.

+1 . . . Have to wonder if you would make up the cost of the ammo to qualify a new CW45 in the deal along with the cost of the new gun.

Not to mention the possiblity that a newly purchased CW45 might not be perfect.

Giving up good gun is always bad medicine.
Find other way.

How many times have you read or heard a person later say they were happy they traded or sold a good gun?

AK's are generally pretty cheap....might be lopsided trade.

I was totally happy to unload my Walther P22 for my Sig P250. And I took a bath on the P22. But that's kinda NOT the same :D

I would definitely find another way. After all the work that goes into breaking a pistol, particularly a Kahr, and knowing you already like it...nope, I'd keep it and scratch some money together from elsewhere.

Plus, there is always another good deal around the corner.

I've kind of wanted an AK off and on for quite a spell. I'd like one with wood furniture of course. Lots of variations, some good, some bad, I could never get comfy or smart enough to know which one to go after.

Heard Arsenals are good. So much to learn, so little time.

I once traded a Sig P228 that I loved and always regretted it. Now if I like a gun I will think long and hard about getting rid of it.

My LGS has had a hard time getting them, even WASR's. After doing some reading, the problems in Romania has led to no exportation of their AK's. This is why they jumped up $100 to about $599 in the last 6 months. If this is the case, the price of AK's as a whole will go up even though there are a ton out there. That comboned with people holding on not knowing what the next year will play out.

To the OP, if you don't have an AK or an AR at this point, you need to seriously think about getting one NOW. Don't wait.

I would think the P45 is probably worth more than the AK is. I guess depends on how much ammo they are throwing in. http://classicfirearms.co/ has some AK's for sale for around $500. The WASR's aren't the best of the bunch so I'd pass on those and see what else they have. Seems like they are selling quick so don't wait too long.

Yes. I just haven't been on much with him being in class.

It isn't going to matter if he does the trade. He will have a K40 as his graduation present after he gets out of school and more money.

Thanks folks, kind of re-affirmed what I was thinking. Les, I do have an AR, but I like terminal performance, which means I'll likely be build a 300 blk upper in the not too distant future. Right now, the wife wants me to build a shotgun, and an AR. This thing just fell into my lap, but with almost 1000 rds of ammo for the AK, and a bunch of other goodies (optic that I could mount on my AR, case, furniture, magazines (several being Pmags)), it kind of just seemed like a good idea at the time. I have zero doubt that if I came up with a CW45, that it would run, or be made to run. I think I'll stick to cash, and just get some spare parts for the P45.

If you let your wife pack away (hidden) your P45 for a month or two, would you miss it? Would having the AK make you NOT miss the P45?

I know how I would feel, given that my TP45 has become my default carry piece and is on my hip right now.

WASR's of late are really a lot better than those of early years. Like I said, the prices are shooting up quick.

My 10/63 has ran 100% out of the hole. No canted sights, etc. I love this thing and is one of the last guns I would ever let go. I sanded and refinished the furniture with red dye and Danish oil.

Man, I love an AK.

That's what I envision as the perfect bawanna AK, without the optics but the wood furniture and stuff.
I just don't know enough about them to make sure I get a good one.

Hey Bawanna, the red dot is on a quick release side-mount rail, off in seconds. That red dot really helps me tighten my groups up at 50-100yds. My eyes aren't what they used to be.

When I got the AK, the wood looked like scrap lumber from out back of a lumber yard. A little sanding, and wet sanding with Danish oil brought some decent looks to it without over blinging it.

The main thing to look for in any AK, not just Romanian WASRs, is that the front sights and gas block are aligned straight with no cant. Chrome-lioned barrels are good too. People rag on WASRs, but I will tell ya, it's probably my most reliable weapon in my whole bunch. Century has really improved them in the last years, and most I see are good to go off the shelf. They are fun shooters. Glad I own one with God knows what laws will be going down in the next year.
