View Full Version : Stand your ground News nonsense
"It has also sparked renewed debate over "stand your ground" laws pushed by the National Rifle Association. While backers say such laws protect innocent lives, detractors contend they can become a virtual license to kill and are prone to misuse by criminals and misinterpretation by judges."
~~~
That is one of the most idiotic statements I've seen in a while. So we have criminals that refuse to obey the law, and judges that are incompetent regarding the law. Ok, must be a bad law, since it wont be obeyed by criminals, and judges can't rule on it. Toss it says the bleedin' hearts.... just toss it.
The Martin/Zimmerman case started all this nonsense talk, and I wonder how getting sucker punched in the nose and falling to the ground, then having a muscular 17 year old jump on top of you and slam your head into the concrete is "standing your ground"?
where was the quote from?
Sadly from Fox on tonightes online piece about Zimmermans injuries
Here's another, from CNN this morning
"Zimmerman faces a second-degree murder charge in the case that has gripped the country, caused nationwide protests and has shined a light on race relations and gun laws in Florida."
~~~
Gun laws? No, stand your ground is a self defense law, with no mention of guns or firearms, or any arms, whatsoever. It does mention force, even deadly force, but not guns. Once again the media....

Much ado about nothing. The law isn't going to change.

Agreed muggsy. In FL there MIGHT be some noise and maybe slight alterations if any but nationwide SYG is on solid footing. Politicians will make noise when the cameras are in the area but then slink back to their burrows.
I hope it remains so but fear change is afoot.

On the news yesterday was that the prosecution wants to withhold the eye witness statements and the fact that Travon Martins autopsy report found both hands with bloody knuckles along with the gunshot wound...
Must have cut his hands opening the bag of Skittles or perhaps Zimmerman kept beating his face on Travons hands before pulling his pistol...Yea thats how it happened....Don't know how this one will come out but either way Zimmerman is going to lose....

He's already lost. The only remaining question is how much.

What the prosecution wants and what they get, will be up to the judge. I hope Z gets a fair minded judge, and not one with politcal ambition.
I'm kind of wondering if the FL AG filed the 2nd degree murder charges, knowing Z will probably not be convicted, letting him go free, but at the same time, since he was arrested he can now be drug thru the civil courts by the parents, who seem intent on making some money out of this tragedy. Like she's trying to pander to both sides.
The Martiin family has trademarked terms like "Justice for Trayvon" and others, so they get a cut from every t-shirt sold with the trademarked slogans.

\u can take that to the bank thetmanbski, it willbe alot abouot money after the acquittal. He has no money so let um try to take what he never had in the firt place aqnd now never will have either. Not sure alawyer will jump on it in civil courst but again there are alot of bottom feeders out there to, . My daughter is an attorney in Sanford, florida, so if she reads this she probably won't speak to me for months. She does not deal in civil though.
who knows a judge "could" but I doubt it still throw this case out of court, but I tend to think he doesn't want the blacks and pro Martin peopl,e picketing around his home, so he will just let the legal system "free" him. Gonna cost the state of florida millions to find him no t guilty to. butObama and Holder want justtice, so lets give it to um.
Where i the fokk is Josey Wales when we need him:israel:
Good one brother JOCKO....
"Are you goin to pull them pistols or whistle dixie...?"
The prosecution knows that it cannot omit exculpatory evidence, anything you saw in the news for the court of public opinion.

That thought has crossed my mind alot lately to Jeepster.
Be nice to have 20,000 acres in the middle of Wyoming all fenced and secure. A house smack in the middle of it.
Anyone wants to visit, I'll pick you up at the gate so you get through the mine fields, crocodile motes, rabid animal zone and the final line of defense, the PUffs.

I sincerely hope that fear of prosecution doesn't prevent anyone on this board from taking any actions necessary in self defense. Losing your life is not an acceptable alternative.

Well, any of those leftwingnut political scumbags who try to mess with the Castle Doctrine ('stand your ground") laws need to have their bedsheets shat upon by a diseased yak with diarrhea (RIP Johnny Carson).

Here's my 2 cents worth. First of all, I live in Sanford, FL where all of this is going on. Things have calmed down some now that Zimmerman has been charged and as of yesterday, surrendered himself to authorities due to his lying to the courts. The community of Sanford is quite divided over this situation. I don't have to tell you why or what is going on locally. It's still all over the news. Just from what I know and have heard (keep in mind this is my opinion only and some of my thoughts are due to hearsay), George Zimmerman was an overzealous gun owner looking for an excuse to take the law into his own hands. I believe most responsible gun owners and those that conceal/carry hope they NEVER have to use their firearm in order to protect themselves. I know I certainly don't. However, it is a right that law abiding citizens have by the way of the US Constitution.
