Lone Watie: How did you know which one was goin' to shoot first?
Josie Wales: Well, that one in the center: he had a flap holster and he was in no itchin' hurry.
And the one second from the left: he had scared eyes, he wasn't gonna do nothin'.
But that one on the far left: he had crazy eyes. Figured him to make the first move.
Lone Watie: How 'bout the one on the right?
Josie Wales: Never paid him no mind; you were there.
Lone Watie: I could have missed.

I think I can safely say it's in the Official KahrTalk:
Top 10 Movies You Must See.

Barth,

Thank you so much. I've watched that movie several times and didn't pick up on that dialog. You've given me an excuse/reason to view it yet another time.

Thankfully the one time I had to use my sidearm I didn't need Josie's analytical ability. :)

One of my many favorites is:

Josey Wales: "Whenever I get to liking someone, they ain't around long."
Lone Watie: "I noticed when you get to disliking someone, they ain't around for long neither."

Just watched it again recently. Lots of things to recommend that movie. One of the best Eastwood westerns.

That was one of the very first DVD's I bought. It's been played many times. I like all of Clint's westerns, but Josie Wales is his best. And he isn't a Hollywood flamin liberal either.

"You know in my line of work you got to be able to sing either Dixie, or the Battle Hymn of the Republic with equal enthusiasm"

"You can pay me when you see me again Josey Wales."

"Well Mr Carpetbagger, we got somethin in this territory called a Missouri Boat Ride."

Not to hijack...but accidentally flipped on "Open Range" last night. Never saw it before - thought it was pretty good. Yes Josey Wales is still great.

For a modern day equivalent, I love watching "Justified". Some awfully good dialogue in that one.

I believe it was the dialog that held my Dad's interest in all the Louis L'Amour novels he read. Other than the news papers I can't recall my Dad reading anything other than Louis L'Amour novels.

My dad was the same way and myself as well for a long time. I'm a big L'Amour fan. My dad thought he had all his books, even had them numbered. I found out he didn't have them all but he sure had a lot.

My son tried to do a book report on one of his books and the teacher wasn't going to allow it since they are all the same.
I sent her copies of Walking Drum and Last of the Breed and she changed her tune.

You know, I've never seen it all the way through. Recently though I added a lot of good classic westerns to my Netflix. I think I'm going to bump this up to the top.

You really need to watch carefully and pay attention to all the dialog.
The story and dynamics between the characters is very rich.
I don't think there is much filler at all. Just content.

Sort of unusual for a action picture, and a western, to have such a strong script.
When you pay attention you will be rewarded.

I really like the direction and cinematography as well.
It's a first class picture on many levels - IMHO.

Spit, splat....How's it on stains?....Love this movie along with the Dirty Harry flicks....When you think about how difficult it would be to both direct a movie and act at the same time it just goes to show what a genius Clint Eastwood really is....Also loved "Gran Torino which he also starred/directed in...I still LMAO when Walt takes Thao into the Italian barber shop to teach him how to talk like a man and the barber pulls a 12 gauge pump out on him....Priceless!!!!

It will be a sad day when ole Clint crosses over the river....

Sad day indeed but no doubt one hell of a movie marathon for several months.

Only Clint could get away with all the totally PC incorrectness in many of his movies. Gran Torino is priceless. We need a world full of Clints to straighten things out.

I've had coworkers ask if Clint calls me for some of his lines. Guess I'm not to PC correct myself.
