Good Morning All,

I will be picking up my CM40 on Wednesday, and I intend to carry it in my right front pocket, once I get it broken in.
Could I get your recommendations on whether or not you feel a pocket holster is better than just dropping it in the pocket, what model you prefer, and any issues you may have had using different pocket holsters, or pocket carry in general?
Thanks in advance, and have a great day.

Never put a loaded weapon in your front pocket without a decent holster that covers the trigger. There are many good pocket holsters out there, DeSantis, Blackhawk, Remora, etc., and many leather holster makers too. For something this size, I would guess a leather pocket holster might be to bulky, so for now I would try one of the "sticky" types. Good luck in your search. :)

I just picked up a Desantis Superfly and it seems to be a good holster. Very sticky, and won't come out of your pocket. It still makes a weird looking print in my pants though. You can definitely tell that I have something out-of-place in my front pocket. I think darker colored pants may be the answer.

It's real life, not a TV show and you should carry your gun in something regardless of where you are carrying it. I like the Desantis Nemesis with my CM9.

they ain't looking in that direction and they ain't surmissing it is a gun either. It bothers u the carrier far more than any civilian in a public place. Hell with the size of thse iphones etc and other sh!t stuff. a gun would more than likely be the last thing they are thinking of. If ur legal to carry, then don't worry about it.

agree APSKAHR any pocket gun shold be in something to protect the trigger area.:israel:

I agree that a holster is a necessity to keep foreign objects (or fingers) from getting into the trigger guard and depressing that trigger. The trigger is a machine and it will do its job when called upon. Remembering that and maintaining respect for the trigger is the key to reducing ND's down to something approaching zero.

Glad to hear you're going with a holster for pocket holster for pocket carry. I read on one of these forums not long ago where a guy pocketed his bare pistol and the trigger hit his pocket knife. He put a 40 cal round through his thigh.
I got a decent one made by Blackhawk for about $12 bucks at Academy Sports

I just got one of these Desantis Superfly, for my P380 and like it. For the bigger guns I like an IWB holster.

So here's another question. Will a holster designed for the PM9 or CM9 also fit the CM40?

Both PJ Holster and Alabama Holster make outstanding Kydex pocket holsters. PJ is far quicker on delivery, about two weeks. You'll wait 8-9 weeks for the Alabama.

The 40 is 1/2" longer and a hair wider. I would advise getting a holster made specifically for the PM40, which will fit the CM40 just fine.

Actually John, not sure if that was a typo but the PM40 CM40 is 5.35 overall, and the PM9 is 5.30 overall, so only a difference of .05 which really isnt much at all.

the 40 is SLIGHTLY larger overall, most loose fitting PM9/CM9 holster will fit, snug fitting CM9 and PM9 holster you might need to wrap your gun in plastic and let it sit in the holster over night to help stretch it.

I just ordered a horsehide front pocket holster from Bear Creek Holster. Doug, the owner, is the best in customer service. He will talk with you about your needs and fit you up with what you want and your needs. Simple or fancy (alligator or shark skin if you want it!), they are great looking holsters, and affordable.
I'll post a thread when I get it this week.

Try to get a good look at the body-side of the holster if it's not a soft material. I had an aholster kydex pocket holster which I love with my G26 but on the CM9 the molding around the slide release and mag release stuck out enough to really rub my thigh raw. Then I switched to the softer Desantis Nemesis.

I have two Desantis Nemesis holsters and like them- one for a CM9 and one for a S&W 642 five shot revolver. The revolver disappears in my pockets while the CM9 does not. But as stated by others there are so many electronic devices being carried these days, people may not notice it. Both work great as far as staying upright in the pocket and staying in the pocket when drawing the weapon. It is easy to grip and draw the CM9 from the Nemesis. Personally I think the CM9 is just a bit big for the pocket. Well, let's say borderline. I carry the revolver in the pocket above all other methods but not the CM9.
I have since bought a Multiholster (kydex molded holster) for the CM9 and that has ended my search for a favorite holster. Better than the pocket and one of the best IWB I've had. I favor the King Tuk, Intruder type holster for bigger pistols after buying an Old Faithful Holster version of this design. They would work good with a Kahr also but that Multiholster (.com) is just great for the small CM9.
I also have a Galco leather pocket holster. I don't like this one as it tilts in the pockets and come out with the weapon in some pockets. This one was quickly put into the box of "tried-but-didn't-like holsters.

+ 1 On the Mika. Fits my pm9 loose enough that is doesn't print as a gun and yet always stays in my pocket when I draw. Also I use the Remora with the reinforced top for IWB and would recommend it as well.

Another vote for the deSantis SuperFly. If you don't like the panel, you can just pull it off and you have a Nemesis.

I have the superfly, but the hook makes the holster too wide for me. The nemesis looks to have less of a hook, and seems narrower. Does anybody have both for a comparison?

Planedude
05-23-2012, 11:36 AM
I had both, but I gave the superfly to a buddy for his LCP. You are correct the Nemesis is slightly narrower and I found I was using it more than the superfly. I found the extra panel was too bulky in jeans.

The superfly seems to be pretty thin though. Is the Nemesis as thin and does it stay put when you draw the gun?

Planedude

Yeah the Nemesis is really thin, but it was about how I wear my jeans. The Superfly's extra panel is suppose to blank off the shape of the gun. My P380 in a pocket does not print with the slightly thinner Nemesis. The extra panel was fine in my cargo shorts, but was weirdly bulky in my (tighter) bluejeans pocket. The guy I gave the Superfly to is thinner built than I am and he likes the bulk. I found the flap on my fat butt, was just too much and sometimes too tight in the pocket. Both worked great on the draw as both always stayed put in eather jeans or the looser cargo short pockets.
I just found that I owned both but, I was always using the Nemesis and the MagPacker so why look back (shrug).
Have a good one.

For those of you that like a minimalist holster, check out the Dale Fricke Zach holster. A piece of kydex that simply covers the trigger. An attached cord wraps around your belt and when you draw, the Zach pops right off.

I have a Desantis Nemesis Superfly. It's okay but it seems like some of the stickiness is not as great as it once was. The holster came out with the gun a couple of times the other day while doing some drills. I just ordered an Alabama Holster kydex pocket holster. Hickok45 on Youtube is a fan of those as well (and I respect his opinion a lot).

I used to use desantis for all my pocket guns , but since being introduced to "stickys" -- I now use a Sticky for ALL my guns. They are perfect for IWB/Pocket. They are like a remora (same concept) , but do the job much better. I've had many expensive holsters befeore and the sticky is truly a work of art. The remoras are fine but the sticky took the clip less iwb/pc to a new level. No printing with my CM9 , the Nemesis printed very VERY obviosley. I got lucky and found out about stickys because my LGS sells them , and they cost $20 ! Not bad for a holster so versatile and comfortable !

Looks excellent. I just ordered one for my CM9, and I'm curious to see whether it replaces my Galco paddle holster and deSantis SuperFly. Thanks for the heads-up!

I have Remora, PJ and MTAC for my CM9s. Of the 3, my favorite is the Remora, but I may get a Sticky to try it. It is just very versitile and does not move. Unlike many on the forum, I really am not impressed with the PJ, but I think it is because I got the J-hook with velcro. It just seems to tug on my belt too much. Might have a different opinion if I would have gone over the belt. The MTAC is awesome too, but it is a bigger rig. The Remora (or Sticky) can go in pocket or IWB without a belt.

I'd definitely recommend the $20 investment. (from what I know) the owners of remora and sticky are not on good terms and used to be affiliated in some way ...

I could care less who makes what , but I sold my Remora on glocktalk after one use. Although it is "fancier" -- the Sticky is truly a perfected version of what the Remora is.

The material on the sticky is interesting , I don't know what it is . I didn't really expect much from a $20 holster but now I purchase one for all my guns. You won't be dissapointed.

Let us know ! I think the whole clip less iwb / pocket / whatever buisness is going to grow -- as I said I've had many $100+ holsters and nothing is as comfortable as that sticky !

I'd also like to add that (for some reason I don't have a signature on this board) I carry that smith appendix iwb in the sticky , and it has a 2.5lb APEX Competition AEK kit -- so trust me when I say the sticky is a winner. I like crossbreed holsters but (for me) they are just too much of a rig. They distribute weight great , but it's still a rig. With the remora/sticky , it's proven that you don't need to spend $100 and wait months for something that's perfect for the job.

I use a Recluse holster for pocket carry and love it. To be honest, it is great in jeans but when I switch to cargo shorts during the summer, the gun hangs lower in the large pocket and seems heavy. I ususally switch to an IWB for carry with shorts.

Guys, I have recently found a brand of pocket holsters that I really like: The Stays-Put Ultra (http://www.concealmentspecialties.com/products.html) by Cocealment Specialties. They have many models to fit different guns correctly. Designed by a fashion designer! Made out of microfiber with nylon inside for a smooth draw. Only $14.95 shipped. I first got one for my J-frame and was very impressed! It stays put when drawing the gun better than any pocket holster I have ever tried, and it does a great job of disguising the appearance of a gun. Also, extremely comfortable. I got one for my Taurus TCP 380, and I prefer it over the Desantis Nemesis and PJ kydex pocket holster that I also bought for the gun.

Now, here is even greater news about these well designed $15 holsters: they work absolutely great as AIWB holsters! I can carry either the J-frame or the TCP perfectly comfortably all day long inside my waistband at about 10:30 (yes, I'm a lefty ;)), riding low with a backward cant that sits the grip down parallel to my belt where my middle aged spread expands above it, hiding it under an untucked shirt or T-shirt. I use my thick, 1 1/2" Amish belt at normal snugness and the holster and gun will stay there all day without moving around. I love drawing from that forward location! The backward cant aids the draw. (You can see how by moving your hand to the AIWB position as if drawing a gun and seeing how your hand wants to move.) The backward cant and the smooth, rounded shape of the holster keeps it from jamming against my leg when I am seated, and thusly contributes to the perfect all day comfort! And get this! Unlike a pocket holster, it is lightning quick and every bit as easy to draw your gun when seated! In fact, it even works for us lefties when buckled into the driver's seat of our vehicles. :D Sorry, the shoulder strap will intefere for righties. :( Of course, it will work if you're riding shotgun!

I use Recluses with my Kel-Tec P3-AT and Ruger LCP, and I think they are great. However, the CM9 is getting towards the end of the size/weight spectrum where pocket carry may not be optimal, so I really like the ability to use the Sticky either in pocket or in waistband. That way, I'm not limited to pants of a certain size pocket. I'm really looking forward to trying it out when it arrives.

Guns are safe only when they are:

In the safe,
In the gun rug,
In a holster.

Simple. If the trigger guard isn't covered, the gun isn't safe.

I have the Remora holster for several guns, but IMHO they are too bulky and fit too tight.

My favorite pocket holster is an RKBA - simple, thin, and custom fit to the gun.
