This month has been one of below average temps,rain/snow and blustery winds. That is until yesterday.High 50`s and beautiful blue skies.I decided to take ol`Nemo out for a walk and ended up at a little flea market a few blocks from my house.Just some local folks who set up their wares in a vacant lot.I was browsing through the tables and found four old boxes of Peters shotgun shells.Remember those blue shells? I don`t know if they`re worth anything or not but they sure caught my eye.I asked the lady how much she wanted for them and she said for me to make an offer.$20.00. Sold.I began talking to her and found out her husband had passed away a few years ago and that she had some guns that she wanted to get rid of too but she didn`t want to bring them out in the open.I`m going to her home this evening to see what she has.If I don`t see anything that I want,at least I can give her an idea of what the guns are worth. It`s funny how you can run across things by accident, ain`t it?

I went to a gun show about 40 years ago in San Jose, CA. One of the exhibitors had an Indian blanket on the table used as a table cloth. I immediately knew that this was not one of the normal ones you see.. I asked 'how much' for it and got a weird look (hey buddy this is a gun show), and he threw out a number - $40 (probably $400 in todays dollars). Sold. It wound up being an extremely early one that was worth many thousands even then. I shudder to think what it is worth today.

I experience this type of thing often at the police dept. Little old ladies bringing in deceased husbands guns to get rid of. It's sad because I can never end up with them even at a fair market price. Many want me to take them but just not allowd. One had 6 old very dirty but very nice old military rifles that made me cry. I to try to pursuade them to take them to a shop or seek help selling so they get something out of them. At least I save them from being melted down into manhole covers. I do occasionally get ammo under the right circumstances. On lady said she had 6 boxes of 22 she wanted to get rid of. I told her no problem. She asked if I could help her carry it in. I thought pretty weak old lady. Turns out it was 6 500 round bricks. I asked if she would give them to a guy standing at the counter, I offered them to him, he said no. So she passed the test and I got alot of good 22 to destroy down my barrel.
Take good care of her Dietrich, hope you find something you like. Let us know what you find just for fun, if it goes bang and slings lead I like it.

Just got back from the lady`s house. All that she had in the way of firearms was a Marlin .30-.30,an old bolt action shotgun and a .22 semi-auto.There was nothing I cared to buy of the guns but I did pick up a really nice set of poi ramekins she had brought back from the flea market. All in all not a bad weekend.
