I'm confused. I have a K9 manufactured around 1996. I don't think it was used much before I got it. I fire about 50 rounds each week and have put through around 2000 rounds. All firing has been at the target range, although I CCW daily.
The pistol seems fine to me, but I am not knowledgeable enough to know how different weight springs would affect performance and handling.
Wolff lists the following recoil springs.
Reduced Power...: 18 Lb
Factory Standard.: 20 Lb.
Extra Power........: 22 & 23 Lb.
What's the difference among them?
Also, what is the lifespan of a 5 lb striker spring in a K9. Is it time to replace it?
Appreciate any insight and recommendations.

My opinion: stay with the factory stasndard 20#. The K9 is a super pleasant gun to shoot. certainly leave the reduced power alone and the extra power is OK if ur gonna shoot the piss out of it with +P rounds all the time.
The 5#striker spring. I don't know of a "life" per say. I have over 32K in my PM9 with the 5# striker and it is perfect and has been. I have over 5K thorugh my K9 and it is perfect. It is a nice set up. Ur K9 striker spring is rated around 7# but I bet yours is now downin the 6# range even and if it is doing great then for what little to gain, mayb ejust leave it alone. althopugh I do recommend the 5# striker spring. It is very nice drop in mod that if u don't like it, go back to factory.
If ur gonna do any ordering from wolffs gunsprings, I would recommend u buy a 3 pak of the 5% extra pwer mag springs for the 7 round maG. They are very nice, u won't notice any6 difference in the loading of it, IMO
I would also guess that ur K9 has the NYPD trigger in it .
The thing for u is tha tu don't know how many rounds has been out of it before u boughty it, and now u state uhave put 2K through it. IMO, I would say it isd time for a recoll spring change. Wolffs makes kahr springs, so ur good to go in ordering from wolffs to.

I immediately replaced the springs in my K9 because I didn't know how many rounds were on the existing springs.
They're cheap enough to replace frequently for peace of mind. Now you will know how many rounds are on the spring. Like resetting the odometer to 00000.

Thanks. I'll get on it tonight.
I'm not very dexterous. Should I have a gunsmith replace the striker spring?

jdr,
Seriously, it's not an easy swap, but it's truly the best way to learn the inside out of your gun. There are TONS of videos and diagrams on how to take it apart and change out the springs. Also, it's a good idea to clean out the striker channel and the extractor channel. If it's anything like mine it was crudded up.

on the kahr tech section there is a thread on slide disassembly. It will walk u right thorough it. If ur gonna own a K9, u should get to know it better to..

What is the difference between a "striker block spring" and a "striker spring"?

Striker Block spring is a tiny spring that sits under the striker block
The striker spring is the actual spring that sits behind the striker or firing pin.
Unless you lose the striker block spring there's no need to replace that.
The striker spring is the one you want to replace.
along with the recoil spring of course.
If you order a replacement recoil spring from Wolff's they include a striker spring.
