Of course, it started as "Decoration Day" remembering the fallen soldiers from the War Between the States but came to be a day of remembrance for all of our soldiers, sailors and airmen who died for our country.

I intend to spend the day of remembrance with my WWI and WWII rifles at my local range.

I'll be spending part my Memorial Day doing an honor ceremony with my M1 Garand at Washington Crossing National Cemetery. As a member of the Honor Guard Rifle Team. We've been doing honors every week in all sorts of weather conditions for our departed brothers and sisters since the cemetery opened 2-1/2 years ago. This will be my third Memorial Day doing what we do to honor our departed veterans. I'm very honored and humbled to be one of the seven who is asked to do this on Memorial Day. I'll also be at another ceremony earlier that morning on my Harley as a member of the Patriot Guard Riders. May 30th (the original memorial day)is also my birthday.

Wouldn't it be great if every person just bought one small American Flag and put it on the grave of a Vet. Doesn't matter if you knew them or not.
Some gave all,all gave some. May they R.I.P. and never be forgotten.

I will be with my Troop at a Memorial Ceremony we do each year in a township park, honoring our neighbors who served and those who gave all.

Thank you for posting, and remembering.

A local range is having a benefit gathering to support the Wounded Warrior Project. I hope to go this year.

Yes, please take time to remember and reflect on the sacrifices that were made and continue to be made by our military men and women. I'm proud to say I served this great country for 21 years active duty Air Force and now 5 years as a federal employee for the AF. Thank you to all others who have served and to those of you who may not have had the opportunity to, but have supported our troops.

Yes, Bill -- of course the Marines, too! I would never intentionally slight my Navy Department cousins!

Starting about a century ago my grandma would go with her women's club to the local cemetery in her small NW Missouri hometown on Decoration Day to put flowers & little flags on the Union veterans' graves.

She got a lot of flack from some of the old biddies when she was the first person there to decorate the Confederate graves in an equally reverent manner. She did this is spite of the fact that her ancestors as well as my grandpa's served in the Union Army.

She rebuffed the old bags by insisting that the dead Confederates were Americans too. That ended the controversy, at least in her community.

Grandma Lottie was good people.

God Bless them all and may they rest in peace.

As you might imagine Marines have a particular appreciation for Navy Corpsman and Seabees.
