I purchased a set of Big Dot Night Sights from XS for my Shield, including shipping (http://smith-wessonforum.com/smith-wesson-m-p-pistols/251456-shield-big-dot-night-sights-range-report.html#) $98.

Tools and instruction come with the sights; however, I elected to pay Impact Guns in Ogden Utah $30 to install while I waited.

I am very pleased with the sights and the accuracy at 7 yards is verified with attached targets.

I shot low until I realized I needed to see the entire front sight over the rear blade.

If you can make a lollipop (see the entire front sight) and the rear vertical line touches the center of the candy the bullet at 7 yards will strike within the candy mass.

You will give up accuracy for the 15 - 25 yard shots due to the big front sight covering a large portion of the 8 1/2" x 11" paper (http://smith-wessonforum.com/smith-wesson-m-p-pistols/251456-shield-big-dot-night-sights-range-report.html#) target but for defensive distances (less than 10 yards) the sight is lightning fast and accurate.

Looks good Russ. Saw it over on the S&W site too. Is that a Galco holster? Shields are hard to come by right now.

I can virtually guarantee no one will attempt to rob you at 15-25 yards - LOL!
Glad you like the sights.

Cornhusker:

Yes it is a Galco Holster. I found pocket and IWB holsters made for the Glock 26 fit the Shield perfect.

Surprising the Galco Holster made for the Glock which is 1.18 thick vs .95 for the Shield is tight. I imagine the leather will loosen up in time.

Thanks,

Russ

Thank you. I hope for my sake I am at the end looking for the right ccw. (I am very pleased with the Shield) My wife has rolled her eyes a lot this last year as I have bought and traded a ccw as frequently as a woman tries on shoes looking for the right fit.

I feel very fortunate I landed a Shield. I know the demand is much greater than the supply.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the search for that perfect carry gun.
Only so much research you can do. And it only takes you so far.
Although I always recommend renting.
You really need to own, get proficient with and carry a gun -
to know if it's the one.

I hope you've found yours my friend!

i like big dots for self defense type situations... anything past 21 ft though I hate them!

Barth:

Thank you for your kind words.

I am confident I found my ccw in the Shield.

I have learned a lot over the last year and three different ccws.

The Shield is not the most ideal pocket gun but it works in dress slacks and the rear sight on the Big Dots does not catch on my pocket like the stock M&P sights did.

Thanks

I agree Big Dots are made for close up self defense and it was a struggle for me to give up three dot sights that I could group 7 rounds in the same hole at 7 yards (see attached picture) but in the end my Shield is a self defense weapon not a target gun and beyond 7 yards is not self defense.

It's always a nice feeling when your rounds stack up on top of each other!

I shot a few targets before I was able to present one I felt good about on this forum.

Changing to Big Dots I know will end the days of round stacking but it is a defensive gun and speed to Target is the name of the game.

I've seen shot stacking with Big Dots, I don't do it too much since I'm not a great shot. The standard dot works very well, not quite as fast to acquire but the same concept. I have a couple of those on larger guns and like them just as well.

The say when you get out there a ways to use the dot as a post, seems to work.

Didn't think it was gonna happen but looks like I might get to go shooting today, it's long long over due. Can't wait to christen the SR1911.

I have been on here since day one and so far have not come up with a target that I felt good about posting:blah::blah:

What about the one you did with the 9mm hole punch that was impressive! Looked like a one hole group.

My first couple of targets with the CM9 (at about 10 yards), I didn't get a single bullet in the 10 spot! :p I've gotten somewhat better since then. I think I'm going to just work with paper plates or milk jugs at 7 yards and forget bullseyes! :84:

I'm a firm believer in "Minute of Pie Plate" with CCW guns. If you don't hit the second button or the end of the tie strings on the hoodie, they really aren't gonna notice any difference.

Dang it, there I go again profiling!

hahaha, as long as I hit the target and I am fast out of the holster that's all that matters to me... When we qualify at work I never shoot expert because just that, and I am fine with it.

problem. I hit the 10 spot every time at 7 yards, It is very easy, u take a 9" pie plate, make a abig 10 in the entire 9" plate and ur good to go. U know a guy has to do what a guy has to do.

Now put that sucker back at 15 yards and with my PM9, I think I could eat off that same pie plate for years to come and never have anything fall through a "hole". Just sayin:blah:

actually I taught TODD JARRETT everything I know. He was at the range with me for 5 minutes and walked away mumbling something about what a dumb fokk!!! I have an idea he was talking about his brother, so I took no offense.

Later on I checked on line and he has no brother, :blah::blah:

Now I am pissed:mad: Just sayin.
