Kahr list two different part numbers for P380 recoil springs. Part #005P380 and #005P381. Can anyone tell me what the differences are between the two springs?

could it be one is the inner sprng and the othyer is the outter spring???

More than one year ago, Kahr went to a stronger inner recoil spring for the P380. I tried it on my RAxxxx pistol with lousy results. Worked fine with higher power SD rounds but stove piped target rounds. Went back to the lighter springs. I hope they still stock the lighter ones.

They show both springs as an inner and an outer set. I'm assuming that one set is stronger than the other, but I have no way of knowing which is which. Kahr doesn't offer an explanation.

Can I assume that the original spring is the one with the number that ends 380 and the stronger is the one with the number that ends 381?

I once checked on that, and got an answer that was soemthing like this: "We have never changed our recoil springs in the P380. Some have stated thatone setif for the KOMIFORIA MODEL WITH THE LCI on it but I was also told that is ot true. so from my standpoinjt, I have no clue.

P380 Inner Recoil Spring. Note: The P380 has an inner and outer spring so you will also need to order the outer (005P38O).

005P38O

P380 Outer Recoil Spring. Note: P380 requires an Outer and Inner recoil spring so you will also need to order (005P38I)

I hink tinman is right Probably only one set but the photos are deceptive, but the written description kinda tells it right.

Thanks, Tinman. That takes the mystery out of it. Kahr could have made it easy on all of us by using a little nomenclature. C'mon Kahr, you can do better than that.

I only copy/pasted the description from the Kahr parts site.
It's there but it's a little vague.

Here we go, another discussion about recoil springs.

I placed this order 4-11 after some discussion here about Kahr now supplying a stronger recoil springs to correct the return-to-battery (RTB) problem with some P380. I spoke with Kahr CS before the order and was told the inner spring is considerably stronger and shorter than the current inner spring. The new outer spring has not changed. I was also told not all P380 will function with the stronger springs.

I've posted this a couple of times.
The measurements I've taken of the P380 recoil springs.
I'm currently using the original lighter spring combination.

A few months back I experimented with the older and new P380 recoil springs. Older springs measure:
Inner= 4.7 lb
Outer= 6.8 lb

New springs measure:
Inner= 8 lb
Outer= 7 lb

The new heavier spring helps the return to battery by overcoming the pre-set of the striker spring.

I like the feel of the recoil with the heavier spring BUT the last 1/4" of rear slide travel felt hard and gritty and low power rounds ejected straight up.

I mic. the springs, two sets of each.

Older:
Inner wire= .028, coil dia .300
Outer wire= = .035, coil dia .374

New:
Inner wire= .033, coil dia .300
Outer wire= .035, coil dia .371

So, I used the older outer and new inner springs and that combination removed the hard, gritty feel and feels very smooth. The slide cycle is very smooth and all rounds eject consistently.

Well, that makes it about as clear as the water in the Cuyahoga River. Who should I believe here? I guess I'll order both and see which one works the best. Hell, I've got money that I haven't even spent yet! At least my CM9 is user friendly. Geez. :)

Interesting, I ordered two sets of recoil springs on-line a couple weeks ago and the Inner springs I got are the ones with the .028" wire. I guess I need to call them directly to get the stronger springs.
