View Full Version : The PM45 felt lighter today.

I have been carrying my PM9 the most lately, with the P380 being #2. I decided to carry the PM45 today. I use the same Minituck for the PM45, PM40, and PM9. The K9 fits it too.
I keep my PM45 at my computer station loaded with a 7-round extended grip mag. I keep a 5-round mag in the holder I carry and usually just swap them for carry. Today I did that and went on a long shopping spree... over 4 hours. I noted to myself that the PM45 was seemingly lighter than usual and just thought it was because I had my Looper belt set just right. It was a comfortable carry and I never had to re-tighten my belt or re-adjust the carry position.
When I got home and was ready to take the pistol out of the holster, I noticed the 5-round magazine lying on my computer desk! I checked the pistol... no magazine! Dang! I've never done that before... carried a one-shooter all day... or half of one. I did have the 7 rounder as a spare, though. That would have been a surprise if I had needed to use the pistol... BANG... and locked back slide!

Haven't done that . . . yet. Not bothering to unload has its virtues. ;)

I don't unload, but I do put the larger mag in the pistol for defense use at home. At least I didn't leave the gun behind.

I just weighed the 5-round loaded mag and it weighs 5.7 ounces. I guess the PM45 with one round is about the same as the PM9 loaded... just not quite as effective... after the first shot!

http://home.mindspring.com/%7Ejustsomeguy/icon_lol.gif Glad you didn't need it today. Seriously though, I keep a couple of spare higher capacity magazines on hand, in case I need them at home. But, given my short term memory . . . I never reconfigure the pistol by loading them.
That puppy is usually in my pocket anyway, home or away . . . YMMV ;)

Wynn,
You might want to find a Downsizer WSP (http://calguns.net/calgunforum/showpost.php?p=1766742&postcount=1); it would fit nicely into your new CCW rotation:D

Good story - also, if you had no mag in the gun, you wouldn't experience a slide lock back after one shot - It would have returned to battery and your next shot would have been a click. ;)

Wow, now that is the definition of "belly gun!" I especially liked the 357, there's probably only 1/3 of an inch or so of actual barrel on that one!

I guess that's why it looks like the barrel isn't even rifled!

That's kind of scary. Only thing I've done even remotely close is to put the gun on and fail to carry the walllet with my License to Carry in it. Only problem is, I've done it twice in the past week. Made me paranoid. In PA it's a $hitstorm if you're carrying and asked to produce the card and don't have it. Dunno if a LEO would be forgiving and understanding like they sometimes are about drivers licenses.

Back before Arizona eliminated the need to carry a permit, the Post Office revised the zip code mapping giving us a new address without the need to move. I asked for and received a replacement CCW permit to reflect the change which became a permanent feature of my wallet.
Does Pennsyltucky offer a reasonably priced replacement for lost cards? It might be worth the cost of an always in the wallet spare?! ;)

I honestly don't know. Will have to look into that for keeping one in the car, just in case I pull a Senior move again.
Thanks for the idea.

I've walked out without my reloads once. I had my 24/7 with 16 rounds in it, but when I am accustomed to carrying two reloads, well you know. I figured it out about half-way through my day and rat killing. Got home didn't take long to put them in their home.

Where would you keep a CCW other than in your wallet?
Here a replacement CCW would have a new number so if an officer checked the permit to be valid the original would not show up and would be considered invalid.
An explanation I suspect would usually work depending on the situation but I wouldn't count on it.
Here an officer can have you ran and they can tell if you have a permit. So it would be just like leaving your driver license at home.
You can be cited for not having it with you but not for not having one. Basically a slap on the wrist versus a court date and a blow to your bank account.

Let me get this straight...you live in the Metroplex and you ONLY carry two extra magazines!! :faint2:

I keep mine in my walllet. I simply forgot to bring the wallet...Twice.
Almost never happens, but it did twice while carrying.
I think I'm losing it.
Next I'll be making typos and sending out horseheads.

I did a similar thing once at the range. I had my HK 40 and three mags, and after reloading I brought up the pistol and "Click". I thought "Oh no, HK's never fail", so I cocked it and again "click". Then I looked down at the counter and saw three loaded mags there.

It has been a while, but I have forgotten my wallet... a few times. Once I was in the parking garage at the hospital where the doctor's office was located, and I didn't notice that I didn't have my wallet until THEN! I DID have a copy of my license, mil. ID, and CCW in my glovebox. I used the ID and paid for the visit with my memorized VISA card... the one I use the most online and locally.
I try to keep a copy of the documents that I might need in my vehicle... just in case. I MIGHT still get a ticket, but most likely a warning, since I have copies of the usual documents needed.
And I forgot that the slide won't lock back without a magazine inserted! Dang, that would have wasted time and might have been a fatal error!
I don't care for those tiny "guns"! The recoil must be terrific and reloading would be another pain! Maybe I should carry my P380 as a backup... or that might be another thing to forget!

I like that tiny gun. I can see now that pulling it out anybody that's been around awhile would immediately think "cigarette lighter". My dad had one that looked amazingly like that gun. Just tell the bad guy if he's gonna kill you at least let you have that last smoke. Offer him one and put the gun in his face and "light it up". (I know, only in the movies)

Unless I was opting for suppressive fire! Then I would have been busy thinking about some kind of malfunction and trying to clear it! I don't intend to do any warning shots, but firing in the BG's direction while seeking cover might seem like a good idea in some circumstances... but not with a one-shooter!

My son and I cleaned up the rest of the guns tonight after our Memorial Day range visit. We hadn't gotten to his G26 or my CM9, so tonight was the night.
He unholstered the G26 and dropped the mag. Went to rack the slide to dump the one in the pipe and .......Nuttin.
When he reloaded Monday he never added one. He's been carrying around an empty chamber for two days. He's only 24 and had a senior moment.

That one in the tube is the most important one. If the first pull of the trigger is a click... things can really go downhill from there! IF you had any edge it's gone... and you can't help but be a little rattled... WTF! Reactions could really vary... but freezing could be very bad.
It's good to get that kind of thing out of the way as he did... make it something to really concentrate on preventing!

As my RSO instructor said, the two loudest noises in the world are; a click when it should have been a bang, and a bang when it should have been a click.

I used to work for the city of Dall-Ass too. The two reload thing is an old habit. Besides, usually when I say Plano/Frisco most people have no clue where that is, so DFW is the closest thing they can find on a map (sometimes). That particular time I was actually in Durham NC, and was carrying my 24/7 (15 rounds of 180gr 40, plus the one in the pipe). It works out well enough for me.
