Hi everyone. I'm a new member and as of last week a first time Kahr owner (CM9). While I was waiting for my pistol to ship, I spent a lot of time here and on other forums educating myself on the characteristis of the CM9. Though I am a first time Kahr guy I'm in no way new to firearms and specifically pistols. After the CM9 arrived I gave it a detail strip and thorough cleaning. Over the course of two range trips earlier this week I put 300 round downrange (all factory loaded FMJ 115, 124, and 147 grain). When I passed the 200 round "break in" period with no malfunctions of any kind I was thrilled. However around round 250 I had a nosedive jam on the second or third round in that particular mag. Cleared the jam and fired the remainder of the 300 with no issues. One malfunction in 300 rounds on a new gun is not too bad in my opinion. I'm fortunate to own a number of autoloaders and all of them have had some sort of malfuction at one time or another. Because I am a tinkerer at heart and had read previously about nosedive jam issues with the Kahrs, I decided to try the "pencil sandpaper" mod on one of my two magazine followers (figured the worst I would do is ruin a follower and have to replace it). Very easy to do thanks to some of the great pics and posts on the subject here at KahrTalk. Instead of a pencil though I used a 3/8 inch bolt as it seemed to be much closer to the diameter of a 9mm case than a pencil. After the mod, I noticed that the rounds still "fanned" at the top the same as the unmodified mag however if you pressed down the nose of the top round in the modified mag it would spring back to the correct position/angle under the feed lips perfectly. In the stock mag, the round wouldn't spring back as well. This was encouraging that at least the mod made some positive difference. Went to the range this morning and put 50 rounds through the modified mag with zero issues. Everything fed great. I was able to slingshot the slide with no problem but I am able to do that with the unmodded mag as well. 50 rounds isn't a whole lot but at least I'm comfortable that the mod didn't make anything worse. I intend to put a bunch more rounds through this mag and see how it goes. I'll post results as I get them.

that second round thing cold just have been an anomoly but also ur follower in that one magazine just might be hitting the mag release button, as at round 2/3 that follower is directly in that cut out window of your mag tube where the mag release button is at. It is ver6y easy to check ouyt and easier to fix if it is jdoing that. U might kwant to revied the kahr tech section ahd hit on propper prepping thread and it will tell u how to check to see if this is happening. a 5 minute fix at best. Had u said that ftf happened at any other round count than 2/3 I would have looked right pasty it but that is a tell tale sign of something to check out.
welcome abaord.

Thanks for the info. Sure enough, the follower on both of my mags hits the mag release. May do a little sanding on the follower in that area. Like I said in my previous post, its only happened once but I'd hate for the next time to be when it "counts" so to speak. Appreciate the input.

I did some sanding on the follower where it was touching the mag release. Put another 150 rounds through yesterday (including 24 each of Blazer aluminium case and TulAmmo steel case) with no problems of any kind. No problems slingshotting the slide either. Thats 500 rounds total so far with only the one malfunction (pre mag follower mod). I think I'm getting used to the trigger now as I was able to hit clay pigeons on the berm at 30 yards about half the time. Pretty good for me. Thanks again for the tips.

this follower thing is not a real issue but it is there in some kahrs. The fix as EVERYONE knows is a no brainer. takes maybe 5 minutes. now some have stated that : hellI buy a new gun and it shold be perfect, fokk it , it is going back. This is OK but as u know a 5 minutes no brainer fix and u stillhave the gun home andnot waiting 2-3 weeks for such a minor thing. To me the time to send a gun back and I mean any gun is when you have exhausted all the little tips that most gun forums reltate to u about that partricular gun.
Course again it is ur choice. Just sayin

Put another 100 rounds through the modded mag yesterday (50 TulAmmo - 50 RWS 124 grain) with no problems. Thats 300 trouble free rounds through that mag since the follower mod. I think at this point I can call it good. It is a no brainer and very easy to do. Highly recommended.

glad it worked out good for u. most of the times this 2/3 round issue is follower related, Like I have said before the gun can't count. Nice job to. and nice to hear a newbie state it is a no brainer. Takes the heat off of some of us who feel the same way.
My K9 did not like wal mart Tul ammo, ..

nice job Marb4. a simple fix now wasn't it. I know it is irritating to some to have to do it and I am sure kahr is workingon it to, but my feelings are. SUCK IT UP and just do it. beats the hell outta sending it back and they doing what ur doing. Plus u also get to know ur kahr alittle better to.
There is no shame in checking out ur kahrs to see that what should be OK IS OK. Sometimes alittel tweek here and alittle tweek there just gets the gun on the right track faster. Most feed issues on semi's relate back to the magazine..
why is it that I read where some 1911 owners, tha tth first thing they doit get a top quality after marketr magazine over what came with the gun Just sayin, but yet when I read some of that stuff, it seems perfectly acceptalble to 1911 owners, Just sayin but yet when sometimes we ask an owner here to do a slight tweek to his magazine to get it perfect, we catch all kinds of hell over it... :third:
