This is an interesting gun that I hadn't seen before, the Rock Island Armory 1911 MICROMAG 9MM/22TCM 17RD 2 BBLS (22TCM & 9MM). A high capacity 1911 in 9mm and 22 TCM that shoots a bullet at over 2000 f.p.s.

Here is a size comparison of the 22 TCM, 9mm and 45 acp.

It is available for about $650.

Very interesting

Good luck finding that 22 round. Neat looking, but not my bag.

Never heard of it. Wonder what it's based on. Too long for a necked down 9. Maybe a necked down 30 carbine?

Not gonna find those in mom and pop's deli and sporting goods store. Just have to plan ahead.

Also available in a target model. Sure would be a good varmint gun. Bet it would go right through an armored vest. Of course, it would probably go through a BG and be very lethal to anyone that is behind him. But for personal protection, one could use the 9mm barrel with some HP bullets for controlled penetration. The 17+1 mag capacity is nice, too, for a home defense weapon.

If you were looking at the FN 5.7, I'd have to give this a look too! Pretty interesting, more versatile w/ the 9mm option. .22 ammo is a bit cheaper than the FN also. Both hard to find. Only real drawback compared to the FN is the weight, this puppy comes in at nearly TWICE the weight of the FN. It's a 1911 afterall. But it's also half the price of the FN. Interesting indeed!

I found some specs on it, 2000 FPS with over 400 FPE, a 223 bullet in they say a necked down 9mm case, but there isn't enough brass on a 9mm case to make that case, so they must use something else that is equivelent to the 9mm case. I can't find out what they use yet. Maybe 9x21 or 9x23 cases?

Here's what I believe is the background on the development of the .22TCM (see "The 22 Micro Mag"): http://atomitronx.com/products.html

Well I weren't far off. Said he started with 30 carbine and then advanced to 223.

Thanks, Greg, for that link. 2050 f.p.s. and 400 ft/lbs out of a 40 grain bullet. His price for the ammo doesn't look too outrageous. I wonder if he is still hand fitting the barrel and slide to each gun now that they are on the market at $650. An interesting gun. Very low recoil. Talk about quick followup shots? With this gun, you can keep pulling the trigger and sending those hot bullets where you want them to go. :33:
