I'm sure some of you heard this morning that Neal announced his retirement from WSB effective January 21, 2013. This year marks his 42nd year as a talkshow host in Atlanta, and recently sometimes from Naples, FL. He has homes in both cities. His replacement will be part time substitute Herman Cain, and Neal will reverse the role and be a part time substitute for Herman. His reason for leaving is his longtime passion for travel with his wife, Donna, which was restricted by the daily 4 1/2 hour show.
Since Neal is two years younger than I, you too, Jocko, I wonder if someone is trying to tell me something.

I was referring to the retirement thing, which doesn't apply to you, but does to me. ;)

Retirement sounds very inviting right about now to me.

I'm afraid not to me. I started working with a paper route when I was eleven, and there hasn't been a time in all those years I haven't had at least one job. The idea of getting up in the morning and not having someplace I have to be terrifies me.

Me as well, also had a paper route. Never drawn a single unemployment check. I am a leech on society due to my disability income but when I consider that I was forced to pay into the state Labor and Industries fund (mandatory) it's like a state provided insurance. Forced gambling so to speak. They hope you pay alot and don't get hurt. In my case they lost really big time.
I think I'll be like my dad, he was busier and worked harder after retirement than he did working and being a rod buster, he worked damn hard when he worked. I'm tired of being an office puke sheep in a world full of wolves.

I understand your sentiments. I can retire whenever I want and fortunately with zero change in financial circumstances. Hey why am I still working then? Could be to avoid boredom.

some practice to get used to it, but trust me 5 days after I retired, I was fully qualified. People ask me today. Don't u get bored being retired?? My reply was hell I got bored working to,:israel: I put my 40 years of labor in at y dads business and when I sold it and walked away from it, I never returned to that place again, and it is only 4 blocks from where I now live even. I miss it NADDA. Just sayin

Boortz is syndicated on about 240 stations from Maine to Hawaii, so he's probably heard on a station near you. He's also written three books, two of which were New York Times number one bests sellers. They still sell well even though they are several years old now. Neal appears fairly regularly on Fox and occasionally on CNN TV.
BTW, although he doesn't talk about it much, every cent from those two number one's was given to the Donna Boortz Foundation which is one of the biggest contributors to the "Wounded Warriors Project".

It didn't work for me. I was off work for nine weeks after my shoulder surgery in January. I was never so happy as I was on March 26th when I could be productive again. I wasn't bored; I had plenty to keep me busy, but it wasn't the same. The whole time I was off, I worried about the service being given to my dealers, and as it turned out, I was right to be concerned. I have worked with these people for twelve to twenty years, and they were just as glad when I got back. Fortunately, they were loyal enough to me that I didn't lose anyone.
Oh, I still did my writing and even built a couple of computer systems while I was off, but it was great getting back to my 'real' job.

.... I'm tired of being an office puke sheep in a world full of wolves.
sounds like the "leave your guns at home" thing is still eatin' on you. That's a tough one to deal with there.
as for "retirement"..... been self employed for the last 30 years, and every time we get enough ahead to set some back for the future someone decides to change the rules on how much we are "allowed" to make. I will most likely die in the field, and my (hopefully) aged son will have to drag my carcass out of the woods.
