Well so far I've sold a customized S&W mod.60, a S&W ported mod 60 3" from the performance shop, an original High Standard Victor, a military .22 conversion unit for an AR15, a .177 pellet conversion slide for a 1911 frame. Just shipped off a Beeman .20 R10 air rifle. Now I'm thinking about this one
It's a Kimber of Oregon mod 82 .22 rimfire. I can't remember when was the last time I shot it, mid 80s, early 90s. I'm really wrestling with this decision.

I also had an Anshutz, I think it was a mod. 64 in .22mag, with the shapnel (sp) forend tip. It was on and off on accuracy, so I floated the barrel and then started to add shims until I was happy. But .22 mag is too expensive to plink with. Does your's have the double extractor hooks?
I don't consider this an old friend since it's been sitting in the back of the gun safe for so many years.
I don't know how much further back I want to go into the safe. I'm afraid I'll end up in Narnia
I need to go back in there. There's my very first gun my father bought for me when I was 8 yrs. old. I think it's a Rem mod. 341 bolt rifle. It's a tube feed that shoots .22 shorts, longs, and l.r. It was made around 1936.

That would be a tough one to part with in my estimation.
I have many times pulled out guns and made keep and sell piles. Put everything back and then double checking the sell pile, those all went back in too. Didn't sell any. Maybe I'm a hoarder?

Definitely sell that one. Doesn't look like much to keep. However, please PM me with the price.

I should at least be able to swap for a 10/22
Seriously I have a 10" steel plate set up at about 100 yds, and every hour or so I go out on my deck and shoot at it. I still haven't gotten used to working the bolt. I try to push the trigger again after firing. This is really old technology.
I really don't know what to do. I'm in a quandry

alphonse, you got a 10/22? I DO
I'd say that would be worth a 10/22 and a half, maybe even two. I better go now before I don't have a 10/22 and less cash to boot.
Alfonse

Sure, I have a 10-22, if a swap is desired. I can understand wanting to get rid of a rifle like this one, what with the obsolete wood stock and nothing tactical about it. The market prefers composite (plastic) these days. I can accommodate an upgrade to something "tactical" if you prefer that to cash. ;)
I must be a hoarder too. Never sold a gun yet. I was starting to have a hard time getting rid of that jeep too after everybody showed me their toys. But, it sure took up a lot more room than a gun!

Yes, my Model 54 does have the double extractor hooks. It's a man sized .22 that has brought more of the main ingredient of squirrel stew to bag than I can remember. With high velocity hollow points it has taken down quite a few woodchucks, too. The accuracy is outstanding.

I have a Winchester 52C that I'm quite partial too, I only submit this to muddy the waters and add confusion since I was thinking of it when you said 54 but it's actually a 52 not to be confused with a 54 which is a large caliber bolt rifle predecessor to the Model 70 and a fine rifle in it's own right. Had one but it got away.

I really already have a tricked out, by my standards, 10-22. I did a trigger job, jeweled the bolt. And then I bedded the receiver and shimmed the fore end as needed. With the factory barrel the accuracy is pretty impressive. It's a -1" 50 yd. gun, but after that it looses it. The Kimber is a 75+ yd. 1" gun.
I've also had this beater for a while that so far I filed off the front sight and filled in the rear sight dove tail. I may get a bullpup stock for it and give it to my grand daughter

Those are some beautiful .22's! I just couldn't help myself when I saw those pictures of that beautiful Kimber. It looks so nice it could be one of Greg's guns!
At any rate, no, if I owned it I would not sell it. However, if I found it for sale, I would certainly try to buy it, as you may have noted.
BTW, I just read elsewhere in KT that Bawanna wants a Desert Eagle .50 too. I just focus on one gun wanted at a time (although I do reserve the right to rapidly shift that focus).

Warne of Kimber? I think if it's the same guy, last I heard he was in Costa Rica. He was partners with someone else making pistol grips. He made me a set of checkered grips for
my carry 1911 that the points are flattened. Makes for a solid grip but no sandpapering the lining of you jacket or your skin. I don't think they offer this mod.

I met him at the Clakamas OR. factory. There is a little history between this rifle, Greg, and myself, not a big thing.

It is all fun though! My focus may not be as laser like as I made it sound in that every few seconds I can be thinking of a different gun I could need.
The Greg I was referring to is one of the moderators here, gb6491. His guns, and photos, always make me drool.
On the DE .50, I could be happy just renting one of those for an afternoon!

Fella on another forum was talking about a scope for a 22. Aint nothing special, just a 3x9 Bushnell with adjustable objective (this may be the only scope I own on a rifle that cost less than the scope). So I ordered one and when it got to the house and installed I find that the bolt can not come out for cleaning.. so I order some taller mounts BUT I know the cheek weld wont be right so I order a Blackhawk cheek rest. The rifle was picked up in a pawn shop for less than $100 with a couple issues that I solved with an order from numrich gun parts. I need to refinish the stock and try free floating the barrel and bedding the action.

Looks pretty good to me! Love messing with .22s, they can pretty much all make me smile. I bet you can shoot S,L or LR with that one. With a subsonic round, it is probably no noisier than a pellet gun.

WOW! I found it! This is my very first firearm. It's a Rem. mod. 341 tube feed made in 1936 (before I was born). It shot shorts, longs, and L.Rs. My dad bought it for me when I was 8 yrs. old. (Those were the days of trust). It was one of those natural killers on woodchucks, running jack rabbits, and such.
It was my first attempt at customizing when I was about 12 yrs. old. My dad wasn't happy.
We just figured out that I haven't shot it in 30 yrs.
I just tried shooting it. The front sight is so thin that I can't focus on it. Need to check into F.O.s at the right height.

First I tried to refinish the stock. I sanded it down, but I didn't know enough to leave the butt plate on. So I rounded off the butt of the stock smaller than the butt plate.
Next I installed the Williams receiver sight. I cut away the wood with a chisel and sandpaper (learned how in school wood working shop). So much for the stock refinish. The shop teacher was nice enough to drill and tap the receiver. Can't do that any more. Then we found out that the original front sight was to short, so my dad had to take it to someone to have a taller front sight installed.
After all that my father hid the rifle from me.
This sucker is long. It has a 24" long barrel

I've seen full grown men do that. Can't fault you none.
My x step brother who my father insisted I loan a prime Winchester 30-30 to thought he'd be nice and put a front sling swivel on it. He drilled the forearm, all of what a 1/4" before he hit the magazine tube. Walked the drill from here to NY and back as he couldn't figure out why it wouldn't drill.
Had to do a little patch job on that and add a proper mount to the tube sling swivel. He was probably 35 at the time.

I must be a hoarder too. Never sold a gun yet.
I know the feeling - same here.
I got every one of my guns for a reason, and while I like and use some much more than others, I've never purchased one that I felt I could part with.
Unless a person is very lucky or clever, every time you buy or sell something you are giving up money, whether to a middleman, depreciation, or both. Especially true of houses and cars, but guns aren't much different.

Also pulled this out of the wardrobe recently. The kingdom of Narnia can't be much further away.
Before moving out to the country we would shoot this in the back yard, it really is a 100 yd air rifle. It was like keeping a great dane in a studio apartment in the middle of the city.
I tried shooting it but it hurts to cock it. I had a shoulder replacement recently and there's certain things I can't do.
Well anyway it's a .20 cal Beeman R 10 made by the original Beeman company back in 1991. I chronoed it at 960 fps and I would shoot it at a 10" steel plate out at 100 yds
It's on it's way to IL. as I write
Wow! I asked a price question about my Kimber on a rimfire forum and I've gotten 13 offers to buy it. But no body's told me what I should ask for it. I don't know if I really want to sell it. If I do I think I need to look at a Ruger 77-22. Any thoughts on the Ruger?
tv_racin_fan
06-09-2012, 02:46 AM
Why would you look at the Ruger? IF I was going to have a high end 22 rifle and had that Kimber I think I would just call it good.
Otherwise I suppose there is nothing wrong with the Ruger (I got no experience with any Ruger rifle so...).
Now were I in the market for a good 22 rifle I think I would be lookin to purchase a CZ. Perhaps the 453 Varmint tho the 455 varmint might be the way to go.

Good morning!
I decided to wake-up my neighbors this morning by shooting the old Rem. I posted about. While loading the tube mag I remembered that it held 15 rnds. of L.R. and more of shorts and longs.
So is this kind of rifle outlawed in states like NY, NJ, CA that have 10 rnd capacity limits?
As far as looking at a Ruger 77-22. I'm thinking more for something that won't bother me if it gets dinged. I'm getting more clumsier with each passing day, and to me guns are made to be used hard and then put away wet. I'm sure a Ruger is more accurate than I can hold it. I already scratched more of the muzzle end of the Rem. by leaning it against the brick fire place. My guns are only safe when they are in the safe. Right now my family room has 2 dedicated .22 AR15s, 1 Mech-Tech conversion carbine, a PM9, a G17, and the Rem. laying around. They're all vulnerable.

While I was in 22 mode I took some shots of my Mossberg 42MB military trainer. We used these and sent a ton of them to Britain for their training. They marked them and put different sights on them. So they have both our military markings and theirs. That is the version I have. Found it at a gun show a few years ago.
It's a tack driver and surprisingly very light. Been trying to find a dust cover for it ever since. Only thing missing.
My son picked up the commercial version which is tube fed rather than clip. It has a prime dust cover but I'm sure he'd miss it since he knows I been looking.

For a good shooter that you don't mind banging around, it is hard to beat the Savage bolt .22s. They are incredibly accurate, come in wood or composite stocks, and don't cost much $. The versions with their "accutrigger" are particularly nice. Those CZs look nice too, but cost more. They won't do anything your Kimber won't do, but you might feel better about banging them around.
Might advice like that might be worth a $.02 discount? Bawanna looks to be flush in wonderful .22s already, and I don't think he'll sell me any...

Well I too sold off a gun, but I turned it into another. I sold my little brother my Ruger P345, and turned that money into a Norinco SKS. Can't wait to shoot it, along with my AR that I still haven't fired, and my daughters Crickett (I have a shotgun that needs shooting too right now), can we tell I have no time? I'll see if I can do the picture thing later when I get off work, no promises though.

I hear Jocko is a giver too, that worries me with all the horses we have around here! Horses or no, I am really looking forward to meeting you in person in July!
I went out to range today, and all this talk about old .22s made me dig out an my first gun, an old Winchester .22, to shoot. But, the weather is cool enough I decided to postpone until tomorrow.
See, when jllotmc talked about getting rid of his Ruger P345, the first thought that came to my mind is I love those P series Rugers. Reliable workhorses at a reasonable price. In fact, my p94 is in my range bag right now. I see his point, as SKSs are nice too. Love all the choices we have!

Bid's up to $885.00 for the rifle with only one mag and no sights or scope ? I wouldn't bid on it without seeing better close up pictures. I think extra 5 rnd. mags are almost impossible to find. I have 2 extra 5 rnd mags and a rare 10 rnd one. Plus if I have the Leopold scope.
I'm gonna watch this auction
OK I got a closer look at the left side of the receiver. It's a watered down version of mine. There isn't a button there for the bolt removal. To remove my bolt you need to press the receiver button and hold the trigger back.
It's older than mine, it's has a 4 digit serial number, mine has 5

I don't consider this an old friend since it's been sitting in the back of the gun safe for so many years.
I don't know how much further back I want to go into the safe. I'm afraid I'll end up in Narnia
I need to go back in there. There's my very first gun my father bought for me when I was 8 yrs. old. I think it's a Rem mod. 341 bolt rifle. It's a tube feed that shoots .22 shorts, longs, and l.r. It was made around 1936.
My model 54 does have the double extractor hooks, but its been a tack driver since day one. I can't tell you how many squirrels it has put into the stew pot. Mine is fitted with a 3X9 Leupold.
