View Full Version : Smooth out trigger feel?

I have 4 Kahrs... MK9, K9 Elite, CM9, and a P380. The P380 trigger is nowhere near as smooth as the others. What can I do to try and smooth this out to improve the feel?
Shoot it!
There are three spots that would make it rough feeling.
The drawbar/cam interface.
The cam/striker interface.
The drawbar/spring rubbing on something.
The first two will go away with use, as the parts develop their own wear pattern. You might try NOT cleaning the gun while breaking in, and or continued shooting to smooth it. Residual firing grit will help that wear in process.

My CM9 isn't even near to being butter smooth either. Would it be ok to spray some non-chlorinated break cleaner down into the frame to clean the trigger mechanism?

I suppose you could, don't think that will help much...What is your round count? If you are past break in you could clean out the trigger bar and trigger spring then put some fresh lube...that may help...
I took my CW45 to the range recently and the trigger spring was squeaking a bit...got home and noticed it was bone dry...gave it a nice drink of CLP, worked the trigger for a while and the sound went away...
review my list of friction points (above) those are the spots that would introduce mechanical "grittiness" into the pull of the trigger
with the exception of the spring or drawbar rubbing (rare!), you are going to smooth out the metal upon metal surfaces with shooting or dry firing. Due to the hardening of the parts, and not knowing the depth of that hardening... I'd not stone or otherwise alter the mating surfaces, but let them find their own wear-in-pattern through use

Round count is at 225 right now

Your getting there, I agree with CJB for the most part, I would just clean and lube all the trigger components and keep shootin her...guess thats why they say break in is 200 to 300 rounds...I know my CM9 broke in and smoothed out faster than my K9 or CW45

Okay, thanks guys. I guess I will keep on shooting it - which I need to do so anyway.
In actual firing, and when dry-firing with the striker cocked, the trigger is acceptable. But in an un-cocked mode, the trigger feels like it stacks and is nothing like the effortless breath of air that my other Kahrs feel like. The resistance/stacking feeling comes halfway through the cycle and the slide pushes up slightly on the frame.
Guess I will just keep shooting it and see how it performs.

+1 This is exactly how my trigger feels.

i have seen guys use jewelers compound. put it on the contact points of the trigger asm, dry fire it a bunch. clean, lube and see if better. if not, repeat.
i dont know of anybody doing this with a kahr but someone with more kahr knowledge should know if this will work. i have used polishing compound & a dremel on other guns but my pm9 is smooth and i only use a little eezox on it...

I see others talking about just spraying down the trigger mechanism. Are you talking about just using a spray cleaner and spraying down into the frame? If so, is this enough to wash everything out and then what is the best way to go about relubricating everything? Also, what sprays would you recomend? I've been using Balistol to clean/lubricate most of my handguns recently.
