Hey Folks,

Well, I couldn't hold out any longer and bought that CW45 I had been looking at for awhile. I broke it down at the shop to make sure it had the notch in the slide and the bevel on the barrel (see, I pay attention).
I didn't notice it today, but when I broke it down tonight to clean it out and start the prep procedures, I found what looks like an 'X' carved into the inside of the slide (picture attached).
Is this some sort of factory marking, or is this some kind of stress crack? Have you ever seen this before? It's odd that I didn't see it this afternoon since I was looking right there, but when I saw the notch, I didn't look at much else.
My CM40 is on the way back from the factory. I'd hate to think that I have another new Kahr that needs to visit the mothership.
Please let me know your thoughts.
Thanks.

Someone posted a pic similiar to yours a few months ago. I don't remember what we ever found out about it, if anything.

When I search for 'X in a slide', it only searches for slide, and I get lots of hits. Of course, it's Friday night so I can't even call Kahr until Moday. Maybe I'll take it down to the shop and see if they have another one. I wonder if it's some sort of designator for a returned part.

There was a thread on the X on the inside of the slide like yours and if I remember correctly it was nothing to be concerned about. What are the odds of you having 2 Kahrs going back? I would hope not probable but not impossible.

I feel a little better after reading that. My CM40 went back because it broke the magazine follower on the first set of 5 shots that I took. I didn't even realize it was broken until I got home, took it apart, and the black plastic pieces fell out. TucsonMTB said that if you can see the spring while the magazine is still together, it's broken. That's exactly what I saw.
On the plus side, it still fired 70 more rounds with only one issue, and me having to push the follower back after loading the first cartridge each time.
They sent it back yesterday. It's in transit, but the turnaround time was only two weeks. They said they were going to make sure everything was lined up correctly. Hopefully they did more than just replace the follower and box it up.

The "X" is another little known, but very innovative Kahr first.

Simply put, the "X" is a passive GPS device.

Whenever you need to find your exact location, dismount the upper assembly, and remove the recoil spring and barrel. Then, invert the slide.

Your exact position is marked by the "X" in the slide.

How cool is THAT!!!!?

That's AWESOME! I can't believe I only paid $350 for all that technology.

Another little known thing about that "X" is that it was a secret production run and if you ever find yourself in one of those X-files situations you are armed to handle whatever comes up. I hope mine that is on the way has it too.

possably some method of tracking parts or fitting parts. Being it is on the under side, expect kahr to do nothing about it.
