Hello folks. Been wanting a Kahr since I first heard about them back in mid 90s. Last Friday, I got a new CW9 for $355+tax. Followed all the directions in manual and here on lube and prepping. Three of the 4 mags I got had a little drag on the mag release so sanded them per ya'lls instructions. Made it to the range this AM and put 100 WWB and 50 Federal fmj and a mag each of 124 GD and Black Hills 115 EXP with nary a bobble. At 5 and 7 yds, I thought I was doing pretty good except some of the bullets were keyholing or hitting sideways?:confused:I signed up here at first to ask you folks opinion on this but decided to talk to Kahr folks first. Talked to Rich and he said only reason for sideways bullets would be if there was problem with barrel crown or rifling. Told him I'd clean it good using brush this time on barrel ( I only swabbed out the barrel with patch & Hoppes). Took gun apart, scrubbed barrel with brush & Hoppes and held it up to the light. :( There was the prettiest, shineyest smooth bore 9mm "shotgun" barrel looking back at me. Felt like an idiot, I had cleaned, lubed and prepped gun and didn't even notice the barrel had no rifling?:o Then I just laughed. I'm 65 and have had plenty of guns that had something wrong "out of the box". They all got fixed and work fine today. Called Kahr, got Ian this time. He had a Fed Ex sticker to me almost immediately and it's gone back to Kahr. I asked about just a barrel swap but they wanted whole gun to be sure everything worked.
I know just from my experience this AM, I'm gonna love this gun, especially with a rifled barrel;). Sorry my first post was not 100% positive but I'll try to make up for it when my CW9 come back.

9mm shotgun barrel, uhmmm. I quess I would pass on that too. Made me go look at mine again. If your groups were goo before just wait to the barrels rifled. Hope they get it back quickly. Atleast if ran fine. Good luck with the tuned up cw9

Welcome to the forum. WoW, I'm sure Kahr will make it right for you. My CW9 has been flawless from day one.

From all I've read on this forum, I'm not worried. Shoot, I once had a brand new Ruger Blackhawk convertable 45 spit the cylinder pin out and cylinder almost fall out on first round fired. That was worse than this to me. I thought I was pretty knowledgeable when it comes to buying guns but never thought about checking for rifling:o.

That's crazy about that barrel. Anyway welcome and the CW9 is a really nice gun.

You sir are to be commended for your light and upbeat attitude in lieu of the circumstances. Many would be burning up the internet with mean and hateful bad reports about Kahr.
I have zero doubt that they will get you fixed up and in perfect order and hopefully very quickly.
I think you truly deserve the very best Kahr can put out. If I had the power I'd send ya a Tommy gun or something cool.
In a sea of power whining these days your a breath of fresh air.
Thank you.

Jocko, I don't know. Ol' Dummy me didn't realize it at first. I started at 5 yds and even at 7 yds, it was pretty accurate for me. Course, the 50 cal. looking holes I was blowing in the paper plates and more than usual powder smudge on the WWB brass were clues I missed. At 10 yds, groups opened more where I noticed individual hits and saw the keyholing. Some rounds didn't keyhole at all? Might'o been hitting "base first"?

I probably would not have noticed it iether, One doesn't buy a gun new and expect tosee no rifleing in it. Maybe I should check my 3 kahrs out to, as maybe almy barrels have no rifling in them either as my shots are all over thye damn place. I would think keyholing might be a bad thing for the BG to take a few rounds of even. Just sayin.

Thank you Sir. I started to not even post anything til I got the gun back and all was well but just handling the gun over the weekend, I fell in love with it. First shot blew the bullseye on target out with no rifling! However, I will in the future when buying handguns or rifles, look down the barrel!;) (big "shoots" going on at range Sat & Sun so had to wait til today to shoot it.)

Hadn't thought about that. Wouldn't even need to buy any fancy JHPs, just use them sideways FMJs. I don't know about penetration but it'd hurt some!

Hey,Ranger, I'm a new owner like you also, about two months now. Also like you, I've always wanted a Kahr since the 90s, but it took a while to select the right one. I know for sure that I have, and have also completed the 2-300 rd break in period without a hitch. I've used different weights, from 115 WW or Blazer to Fed 9BPLE (which dwells in the gun as I speak), to 147 gr Rangers, the latter being especially accurate. My one complaint is that with two of my three magazines, I can't get them to take all 7 rds-one will nudge it's way out in the pouch, which could be an ugly scenario indeed. So what I've decided to do is load the gun will all 8, but put 6 in each spare mag; so far no issues. Does anyone else have any experience with this, and suggestions?

I've had that same problem with another brand of small auto and only solution ever worked for me was sewing diagonal across base of pouch at the same angle top cartridge fits in mag for a very snug fit. Have a new nylon mag pouch and gonna try it with this gun?

Sounds like it's worth a shot. I'll get my adoring wife to assist with this-she carries a different brand-Kahr's slides were too tough for her to use.Anyone have any input on the +P+ ammo I'm carrying?

OTHER THAN WHY +p+ WHEN KAHR DOESN'T RECOMMEND IT. oTHER THAN THAT WHY NOT BUY A 40 cal if u want more ump. Never made sense to me to cross that line... but each to his own to.

I'm hoping mine will like DPX as much as I do. Have a pretty good "stash" of that and 124+P Gold Dot, Golden Saber and Black Hills so any of those'll do.

OOPS! Better get some NYPD Gold Dots then. I just figured if I shot a few it's be all right, but unlike say the Ruger LC9, the manual doesn't specifically say absolutly no +P+.

It must be the new self defense barrels Kahr is developing. They allow you to achieve plenty of stopping power with 115 grain FMJ rounds that are less expensive than the typical self defense ammo. ;)
Welcome to the forum. Glad to hear you called Kahr so they could make it right and you didn't just go blasting them all over the net like too many others out there. It's a great gun and I'm sure you will like it even more with rifling!

To wrap up this thread on a happy note, went to range this AM. 100rds WWB and most of CorBon DPX box. Shoots a lot better with rifling in barrel. The ramp and chamber on that new barrel looks like it's been spit shined! Didn't need to do anything to it. All together fmj and jhps, close to 300rds now and she ain't bobbled a one. Next week, I'm gonna drag out all my different brands of jhps and chronograph and run em thru her just for fun of it. Should'a got one of these years ago!:o I've got a feeling the information here on prepping, lubing and magazine tweaking made for an easy breakin. Thanks to all here!:D

nice report, more than likely ur kahr was good to go anyhow but all the pre-prep work u did didn't hurt anything and certainly gave u some prior insight into the workings of the gun to. U win both ways.

Gosh, I'll bet an ATF agent will read this thread and be terribly disappointed that he didn't get the chance to railroad another innocent gun owner* with an inadvertent NFA violation**.

I had some misfires from cheap ammo, bad primers, but nothing with the gun. Just got a new holster and put over 500 through it. I love the cw9. Yeah call Kahr.
