So, I picked up a K9 last year at a gun show, used. It's a great shooter and great for ccw. One thing that has been bugging me though is that I can't figure out what model it is, exactly. Serial is AP05XX... I sent an email to Kahr sales and they said it is a 2003 with nickel plated carbon steel slide and night sights...

Problem is, the slide has the word "stainless" engraved into it, and it is black. Also, it has the standard factory sights on it, not night sights. The actual frame is sort of a matte gray color. The only answer I can think of is that someone, for some reason, swapped out the slide.

What do you guys think?

or kahr made a mistake in whart they told u. If it says stainless on the slide it is stainless slide but the lower frame could indeed by carbon steel. Could have been a NYPD gun that indeed ths die was swapped out for ome reason. Looks to me like u got a nice gun. Sounds like to me it has the DLC finsih slide to, so is the bottom frame a stainless dull finish. Like u hve a two tone K9 which is certainly different . Someone has changed something to it.. enjoy it,

I think ur lower frame is also stainless. Now also the slide could have been by the owner refinished in the black finish to, so it could be all original as far as parts goes, just that someone did some nice custom work to it Nice gun. love the two tone. It did not come from kahr that way

The only two-tones I'm aware of then were the E9s. I agree, maybe the Kahr employee made a mistake on reading the serial number, and the slide looks to be refinished, (otherwise the frame would also be black).

andI might be mistaken but were not the E9's, lowers not the scalloped frames like the newer modles all look like. But were also the E9's carbon steel version???? Just sayin..

I personaqly hve never seen other than on this 4um an E9,so some things I am just surmizing to..

I've seen some random pictures around the web of a similar style claiming to be a "special edition duo tone" version of the K9. Maybe it's that?

The cob webs aren't totally clear, , but I believe you are correct. That may be the answer. I don't recall the time frame for them though.

Only problem with that idea is that these "special editions" supposedly had carbon steel slides.

This one is definitely stainless unless someone got crafty with a laser engraver...

Not sure if it's used in gun slides, but there is such a thing as High Carbon Stainless Steel. Possibility?

Do you have the original box? Is there any info to be gleaned there?

The serial number sticky shows multiple years and different serial number ranges for the special editions, (same goes for nickled slides).

It sure would be helpful if i could get some info off the box, but alas! I have the black plastic Kahr box, but whatever stickers were once on it were removed before my purchase.

I don't have enough Kahr knowledge to offer any input but I sure like the way yours looks.
