So, quick review here. May post some picts this weekend if anyone is interested, but not sure they are necessary for this particular product.
I had recently been looking for a tac light for my new Sig P250. This pistol was slated to become my new HD pistol, sitting in the biometric safe ready to go. I had looked at low-end tac lights, StreamLight TLR3 for example. But so many of them got so-so reviews, even the TLR3 had enough people griping about the build quality and easy breakage that I decided it wasn't for me. I thought about going a bit more expensive, but I'm not a Seal, SWAT, or ninja. I couldn't see investing as much in lighting as in my guns. I hope and pray I never even need it. So I figured there had to be a better solution. So the search began.
The Sig is such a big gun, I wanted something where the switch on the light could be adjusted forward/back so the light would be reachable based on how I hold/operate the Sig. I also ultimately wanted it to be more useable on multiple pistols or weapons.
I also wanted the option to upgrade lights, or get something with more features (strobe) or mure lumens over what you get on low-end lights with an integrated mount.
I stumbled across the VTAC Light Mount and for the price (around $25 everywhere) why not try it. It came today and I have to say, pretty good quality, good quality plastic, lightweight...and more importantly, flexible. It will handle .8" diameter lights and 1"...and probably in between. It has a collar insert that can be removed to house a 1" light and w/ the collar inserted, .8" or slight larger if you opened the collar up some. Good quality hex screws to lock the light in place and to mount to your pistol. Seems very secure, but a day at the range should determine that for sure.
For now, I stuck a Maglite XL50 on it. But now that I'm sure I'll be happy w/ it, I think I'll order a Klarus XT1C for around $50 and get something more function (variable strobe, super high lumens, low setting). The XL50 gives me that, but it's just a huge light. On the P250, it looks like I'm going to war! So the XT1C should be less obnoxious looking.
Nice thing (for me anyway) is the side mount. I can easily get to the back of the light w/ my thumb, the mount can be loosened and the light moved fwd/back to the perfect position. And you could move it to the left if your gun is designed to accomodate southpaws.
Last, it's not aluminum or metal, so it's not going to eat up your polymer rail. I had a red dot rail mount/housing on my Walther P22 that was aluminum and it shaved poly off that frame like no tomorrow.
Anyway, for anyone looking for an option for mounting a tac light, I would definitely recommend this. Worth a look anyway.
