Had Ahrends make a set of custom stocks from the same wood as the presentation case.

They'll eventually go on a Royal Blue 1911 currently at the Colt Custom Shop, but the 9mm Commander is showing off a little.

What is it about 1911's that makes them so awesome?

What is it about 1911's that makes them so awesome?

For me personally it's the design and how they shoot in my hands.

I distinctly remember the first time I ever shot one (a loaner from a friend), and it was an "AH-HA!" moment for me.

What makes the 1911 so awesome? Well for me it's the finest weapon John Moses Browning ever designed. It uses the .45 acp round. As a military issue sidearm, it is totally reliable. Drop it in the mud and pick it up and start shooting, Much like an AK47. As a platform, you can turn it into whatever you want, from a tack driving full competition model, to a basic accurate home defense/carry weapon. I would venture to guess there are more accesories available for the 1911 than any other firearm.
The handle makes it a natural point and shoot weapon. It fit's just abour anyone's hand. That it's been the main military sidearm for most of it's 100 year life, says quite a bit about it. And it's still in use by some units. Why we went with the Beretta 9mm, for the new standard issue sidearm is beyond me. The Beretta is a great pistol, but they arlready had a great pistol. I think it probably had something to do with 9mm being the most common NATO sidearm.

I could probably get 10 more sets of grips out of that box. Darn nice box. Very nice package.

Not in the same league as Ahrends but I built a shadow box for my favorite Chief when she left here.

It has a glass front which doesn't even show up. My hats off to Ahrends, they did a nice job, boxes can be tough.
