Well, that sure sucks. I was on the verge or ordering one of the new Google Tablets and I've always used Google for searches and I do a LOT of online shopping... especially for ammo and other gun-related stuff. I'll try to change all of my preferences to use other search engines.
I hope that ASUS goes ahead and introduces their own branded Tablet with the same or BETTER features. The new Google Tablet doesn't have a memory card slot for using Flash Memory Cards. I bought a cheapie on Buy.com for $109 delivered and now I see essentially the same thing for $89.99 delivered! My cheapie is pretty capable and not slow, but has a few things lacking... BlueTooth, multiple CPUs, and power to the USB port, but it was a terrific buy.
Google is scary because they tried to digitize and add to their databases all of the data and documents in the world... AND, if they choose to help the government go after guns, they have all of the transactions and lists of guns that people have bought, talked about, or listed on their "signatures".

Well it's not like google is the only search engine out there, Yahoo still works, Bing, Ask.com, webcrawler.com. I'll probably switch to Yahoo or Bing, whichever is less annoying.

Wikipedia lists a whole boatload of Search engines.

How stupid and narrow minded. Google execs are idiots. Their responsiblity is to provide the best marketplace they can, not decide which legal products can be sold at that marketplace. I can certainly understand them being afraid that some 10 year old would search on there and find a shot gun he wants to purchase (insert sarcasm here). I hope they suffer much loss because of this.

Makes me wish I was into voodoo. I'd stick a pin in their hard drive. Maybe fill their cup holders with hot wax, and burn their little USB whatchmacallits.
Sorry that's all the technology I know about.

Not sure what the concern is here. I just went to google and typed 'Colt 1911' and it brought up numerous links and included links to places of sales such as cabela's and guns international. Could they have already seen the error of their ways and changed back? At least I'm not seeing anything different here so far.

It's only in their special shopping area. I tried it yesterday.
I never use that either so everything else is still the same.
I'm gonna switch just because of their attitude, I'm sure my departure won't make a lick of difference to them but I feel good about sticking it to the man.

If you actually search under 'shopping', you wont find any results when typing in 'Colt 1911'

Well, I can see why I didn't see any difference. Never used Google that way using the 'shopping' method. Thanks for clarification.

Make sure to email them and let them know your leaving and why or they will never even know. I am a programmer and have been tired of google for a long time. There moto is like do no evil but it is just a motto. They screen and filter many things including the news and the results you get from a search are scewed by people basically paying them to put their stuff on top. They also don't give a damn about privacy. They log all your searches and keep it for a long time.

Excellent thought but a very hollow gesture. Even if everyone of us and everybody else on every other gunbord changed search engines Google would not notice any decrease in revenue. NONE. So what to do...

I don't google shop, don't shop on line, don't do the facebook crap, don't play the twitter game, and rarely follow links that posters just bindly post without some excerpts or explanations (never follow links to sites like the huff and puff site). I do my best to not leave footprints all over algore's internet super highway. I don't want to be "counted".
I'm like the wind (with a rather bad odor):D
