Seems like this year is flying by, maybe life is flying by.

Anyhow this is the place for funny, clean, or just general discussion among friends.

We're closing in on election time, leave that someplace else PLEASE.

All good stuff here, help, ideas, family discussion.

Off color or unsuitable stuff will just disappear without notice. Kind of slows down this time of year as most are outside doing stuff with less time on the crystal ball and specifically Kahrtalk. Try to visit from time to time. Keep your friends and priorities straight.

I'm of to make sawdust. Finish some handles for Deacon today or tomorrow.

Wife wants me to help her work in the yard, I prefer to declare it a wilderness zone. She says the exercise will be good for me, I say exertion is something to be endured, not chased after. Heck I just did 3 pushups a couple days ago which is 1 more than in the past year. Sigh.... the things we do for love......

Super busy implementing 2yr long ERP system at work this weekend. Bla
Got ammo and grips for the S&W 629 to shoot next week.
Storm Lake has my OEM P220/45 barrel and their dual ported wamma jamma.
Should have that back to shoot soon.
My triple ported Bar-Sto for the P239/357 should be finished later this month.
NFL starts soon Woo Hoo!!

I'm really trying hard to not buy any more guns this year.
I really mean it this time!!! (I hope...)

The older you are the faster time passes. It seems like just last week that I was nineteen. Of course the old woman that I'm married to says that I'm 66 going on 19. I'm thinking of becoming a curmudgeon like Jocko.

I want to thank Chief Justice John Roberts for siding with the four liberals on the supreme court in deciding that it is constitutional for the federal government to tax the people of the United States for not doing something. By doing so he removed any illusion that we might have held that we live in a free country. We now live in Obama's socialist utopia. It is my sincere hope that the Chief Justice suffers a protracted and agonizing death under that very same federally controlled medical system that he held to be legal.

Just a tiny little cheerfully applied tag.... Since the mandate is now a tax, it takes only 51 votes - not 60 - to overturn it. A new bill surely will be roling along soon to repeal Obamacare and the Dems can either vote to repeal it or they can vote to tax the lower class into the poorhouse. Also, now business is motivated even more to get Romney elected and his coffers are swelling.

Thats the way I heard it. Roberts is pretty tricky. Didn't get in the middle in an election year and made it easy and probably likely to be repealed. I can only hope.

Sad part is theory is it will also make obummer a shoe in but I anticipated that.

I think many of the polls are as ridiculous as the mud slinging, underhanded,
ad campaign that's being waged. I feel a backfire may be in order.
And a silent, and silently enraged, majority may well have had all they can stomach of this National Embarrassment.

I truely feel his The Day of Reckoning is nigh.

Most of our grandparents came here to find a job, just like the Mexicans. When most of them got here they also became an oppressed minority. At one time being Italian was was dirty like the polish and Irish were previously looked down upon. Before unions the corporations basically ran legalized slavery. In the mine towns you lived in the company housing and had to purchase everything from the company store . Prices were calculated so you would live at the poverty line and never be able to save a penny.

Sorry, but the old days weren't that great...

I just read something I found really interesting. Since 1996 those convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence are banned for life by the feds from owning a gun. This was upheld by the Supreme Court (http://www.calccw.com/Forums/general-faq/10663-misdemeanor-crime-domestic-violence-now-federal-lifetime-ban.html) and it lumps domestic violence in with convicted felons.

Now you may want to read up on domestic violence. Does getting into a loud argument with a family member constitute DV. What about grounding your pot smoking rebellious teenage child? How about an anti-gun spouse who files in spite?

All I'm saying is be aware of the consequences.

You have to be convicted. Washington state law says that if there is a physical domestic violence the primary aggressor goes to jail. (Sometimes hard to determine) I'm kind of proud that it isn't always the husband/boyfriend going either, often times the female is doing the smacking.


Verbals don't quailfy. Spouses have tried to play havoc with their husbands but usually at least in most of our cases the officers see that.

Your right that a Conviction of DV Assault is just like being a felon when it comes to gun rights.

Up here and I'm sure most places a restraining order or protection order disqualifies a gun buyer until it expires or is removed from the record.

Sometimes it's a tangled mess. I had one last week where there was a restraining order, guy said it was suppose to end 3 years ago following a divorce but it never got removed. Until it is no guns for him.

I've been fussin about getting a different 45 for carry. Bawanna said I need to carry Dad's Colt 1911 45 for awhile to make sure I was comfortable concealing a larger gun. I did and I am. Funny thing tho, since I can't find anything stating the width of my 1911 I measured. Did you know my 45ACP 1911 Colt Commander is THINNER than my PM9???? I measured a half dozen times refusing to believe that so I smirked and tried to force it into the PM9 holster. It was SLOPPY in that holster and my PM9 doesn't want to go in the Colt's holster. Is that weird or what?

My MK40 is like 1.0" or something.
It's like deck of cards thin.
My P220/45 is huge in comparison.

I actually like my G27 or P239 as a nice carry size.

So you made me measure my 1911 GI's slide. It's 23 mm or 29/32" wide. My CW9 is 22.5 mm or 28/32" wide.

Might have to breakout the good calipers!

Next to Greg, I'm totally in awe of this man.

Think of what he did, and how long he took to create working protoypes with not nearly remotely close to the tools and technology we have now days.

I've seen pictures of his work shop and it boggle my mind what he accomplished.

Pure absolute genius.

Pure absolute genius who couldn't sell a gun, but launched so many other people into the history books for manufacturing his designs.

The engineer part of me is in awe and the salesman part of me feels pity he never reaped the rewards of his genius.

Actually I'm not sure that's exactly true. He sold a lot obviously to Winchester, and when they balked at buying a few designs he went across the pond and marketed with FN etc.

I really don't think he wanted to be encumbered with production, he wanted to design and collect royalties.

I could be totally wrong and you could be totally right, in fact it's most likely the case based on my past history but that's the way I see it.

Yep, my CW45 won't fit into my 1911 leather holster. the 1911 design really has a slim profile.

compare the width of your Kahr trigger guard to that of your 1911. Been there, done that. I carry my CW9 and CM9 in a rather generic Don Hume leather IWB single clip holster (had it for a long time), and they both fit well as far as the frame goes. But try to force the Kahr into a Kydex holster made for the 1911 frame, and the trigger guard width just ain't gonna permit it to work. I've even considered doing a bit of trigger guard shaping on my Kahrs to make them fit my favorite 1911 holsters, but not gonna risk damaging the frames.

I watched that video a few minutes ago. The town could get quite a bit of money for that big croc... a big draw for a zoo or some other tourist business. A little recompense for the families of its victims would be nice, too.

I was over on TTAG a bit ago and there is a bunch of butt hurt coming out of Chicago right now. The anti's are crying because Guns Save Lives used one of the "buy backs" (how it can be called that when chicago never owed the guns in the first place) and is set to send a bunch of kids to a summer camp to teach them safety and marksmanship. If you get all of that to work right the first time my company needs to hire you. They are really good at meeting their due date but the accuracy of any change leaves A LOT to be desired. They cut to the new system and claim they come back with the "fix" later.It took them 3 months to get paychecks right after they "merged" payroll.:31:

then they went to update the inventory database, same thing.

Barth how did the conversion go? Haven't heard much from you so I expect it was a can of worms as most of those are. What type of servers are you using, what language are the apps written in? I'm a dinosaur old COBOL programmer, but did learn enough Visual Basic to be dangerous. My last couple of gigs were doing the Y2k conversion for Boeing, and the same thing at our local big newspaper, but they kept me on after because the users were very happy with the reports I could generate in an afternoon for them, writing small COBOl programs. My reports were for the circulation department, and we butted heads a few times when I they wanted to manipulate the figures to make them look better, and I refused on ethical grounds. My supervisors stood behind me on those issues. Hard to believe what those snakes in circulation wanted to take credit for. They wanted me to add things like Auto Renewal numbers into their new client figures so they would look like they were getting more new customers than they were, and little things like that I refused to do. LOL, the craziest night of my life was when I lost several million dollars in the computer one night for a life insurance company. When the figures didn't balance they had me come in in the middle of the night to see what happened. Funny how getting a decimal point out of place can really screw up some figures.

Doomsday (or Zombie if you're into that kind of thing) firearm guide

I have been thinking about what I have in the event of dire need and wonder what others are collecting. I need to reach a finishing point and then just buy toys after that. I'm thinking I may need to add others to the collection as I ponder.

Here's the collection so far:
a couple of .45 cal's suitable for myself
a few .9mm's for the wife and daughter (.45 is to much for them at times)
several good .22's for hunting small critters (and enough practice to use them at 60 yards for 1 inch groups w/ a scope)
A couple of .223/5.56 for heavier work (practiced to get 1 1/2 inch groups at 100 yards) along with some medium size game ammo.

No shotgun's yet
I've thought about a .308 upper for an AR but ask myself is that a real necessity if I can be really proficient w/ .223?

What's on everyone else's priority list?

I agree. I was surprised that I would like scyfi after reading the war/spy action stuff, but much more of it is free and that matches my book allowance. I was also surprised that I took to the strong woman lead characters but I did.

I read most of the David Drake's Lt. Leary series before I discovered Honor Harrington. Lt. Leary was becoming another Jack Reacher (Lee Child) thing where the character stops developing and it's just another cookie cutter adventure. I'm reading Honor in order and her character is continuing to develop although I'm only on the 5th of 11 books. I've been curious about how the character developed before the series starts and he's just released the first of a teen series that goes back to her childhood. I read the sample pages on Baen.

we haven'thad a drop of rain here in my area of Indiana in over 30 days. corn is toast, all fireworks have been cancelled in oost Indiana towns. We are in real bad shape hgere and the crops are gonna take a servere beating this fall. beans might make it, if we get some rain but most of the farmersaround here say it is way to late for the corn and we are supposed to be above 100 the rest of this week into next week. It is 8 pm here and right now it is 103, down for 106 earlier today. I wonder if the birth rate will increase for the month of June in Indiana and Illinois. Just sayin.

North Carolina is a great place to live. You've got the mountains on one side and the ocean on the other. Some of the worlds best fishing off the outer banks and the winters are pretty mild. Moved here from Ohio in 85 and haven't regretted it one bit. :)

They are adding buildings and expanding opps at the GM truck plant in Arlington, don't know the timeline on that.
They are also building a rail center for locomotive building and overhaul near the airport, north of town that may fit your experiance.

Everyone knows my Barth Six Barrels nickname.
And that I'm primarily a Storm Lake guy when in comes to near match
aftermarket barrels (I have four for my Glock G27).
Storm Lake seems to specialize in Glock barrels.
But does make some limited barrels for other guns.
I got a full boat extended, dual ported, Isonite QPQ
barrel for my Sig P220/45 that would not feed a single round!
Normally I don't return anything, but this really shocked me.
I contacted Storm Lake.
And they asked if I could send them the barrel back with my OEM barrel?

Both barrels are scheduled to return from the Storm Lake mother-ship on Monday.
I have four OEM 10 round extended mags, three 7 round P220 Sport mags
and two EOM 7 round mags
I'm going to load up with about 300 HST, Ranger T, Cor-Bon, Hydra-shok and anything else I can find
(Plus a box of 230 +P Ranger Ts)

Its funny what you adapt to over time. The heat tends not to be an issue to me. I have worked the ramp and hangers during every part of the year and it can be hot... and it can be really cold, (Shrug). Days over 100 degrees average about 12 a year. Now 1980 and last year upset the apple cart, but on average most days are rather nice.
Now during the "Super Bowl ice storm" we were one big block of ice for a week. My wife is so freaked by that one storm that I had to get my 2012 Dodge R/T Charger with all wheel drive, just in case. Sooooo I get worse gas mileage (about 2.5MPG avg) on the off chance we get another 100yr ice storm in the expected life span of the car (I trade aprox every 5yrs).
My wifes people are from Fresno CA. When we see them, the "scary" talk always come back to Tornados. They "could never live here" based on those scary twisters. I always ask about the forest fires, mud slides, santa anna winds and of course the earthquakes, which they just shrug off as nothing to worry about. Funny thing is, I always get a warning about a storm, do they get a warning about an earthquake?
Guess its all in what you are used to.
You makes your choices and takes your chances.

True story (really)

I have two of the smallest that Spyderco makes. Was in Tanzania and the tide at the location that the rig was at was near 18 feet, in fact, you could walk around the rig at low tide. Tide was going out fast and a boat was alongside with on line of a diameter of 4" caught up and could not be untied. The boat's deck crew laughed when I pulled out my little Spyderco to cut the line loose. Took only four cuts! Needless to say, they were in shock that the knife was so sharp. Those serrations really work on lines!

4" line! Wow! my wife and I stopped at a restaurant on the Intracoastal and I tied up our 21-ft+ walk-around-cabin boat... over 4,000 lbs loaded. I like to keep an eye on our vehicles and thought the boat looked different... it was tilting. The tide was going out and though it's only about 4.5 feet between normal high and low tides, the boat was really going to be supported by the 1/2" nylon lines that I used. Fortunately, I noticed the tilt before the boat or the cleats got damaged. I had paid attention to my US Power Squadron lessons and didn't secure the boat with wraps that would bind under the weight of the boat!

After that incident, I designed some lines with marine-grade bungee cords added for tensioning to preclude that.

I got the "butt rocket" video years ago and couldn't believe that someone would do that. That idiot jumped up after the bottle rocket exploded and high-fived the other guy! I'll bet his nether regions got a bit scorched, though!

This 4th a whole barge went up at once in some U.S. city... the "show" only lasted about 30 seconds.

What's your favorite multitool? I have a Gerber that I've owned since working as an engineer at a TV station many moons ago. It's the one where you can deploy the pliers with a flip of the wrist. I have a Toolzall-Pro from when I was a steel mill electrician that has a wire stripper type pliers. A few years ago I bought some expensive gazillion attachment monstrosity made out of unobtanium that I use at work as a university television station engineer.

My favorite of all time is my Leatherman Skeletool CX (http://www.leatherman.com/products/product.asp?id=3&f=6&c=1). It doesn't have all the silly things... just the basics (pliers, screwdriver, knife). The carabiner clip doubles as a bottle opener but I've never used it. I have used everything else though. It's lightweight and clips onto my pocket (I use an actual multitool belt case as a magazine pouch). For daily carry it's the most practical.

full auto? think I am about ready to move. How bad are the summers and far as heat? Right now it is staying over 100degrees and with the humidity it sucks!

Last time I was in Dallas it was in July, 1998 I think and it was 93 degrees at 10:30 at night.

I lived there in the 80's and have nothing but good memories. I would find a place outside of town though if I ever go back. I thought about moving to Shreveport, LA a few years back for a job and was planning on living in Marshall, TX. the job didn't work out though.

I've been told it often gets to 95/95 (Temp & Humidity). I was stationed in Little Rock in the early sixties and it was often 90/90. Coming from a hot but dry climate, I'd shower before work, at lunch, after work and before bed. In between was just sweat it out.

I don't mind the heat as long as humidity remains low.

I can remember the fun we had in the 70's in Abilene, Texas... Dyess AFB... pre-flighting and flying in those big BLACK B52's... on hot, sunny days. I remember being on alert and getting the morning briefing on how much runway we would need if we had to take off and go to war with a full load of fuel and the EMP emitters and other stuff. It was 108° that day and they predicted that the full runway and the overrun wouldn't be enough, but if you had to take off you could use the dirt and stay in the ground effect... literally... until the airspeed got high enough to start a climb! Yeehaa! That sounded risky, but with incoming ICBMs, it offered a better chance of surviving to avenge our loved ones and the buddies left behind.

Flying back from over the Grand Canyon, the ladies needed to tinkle so we landed at what turned out to be a nothing airstrip. The facility was a Port-a-Poty mounted on a fork lift skid between runways. It was hotter than we ever thought when we decided to land and of course we were overweight, but fortunately burned off some fuel.

We started out roll from the dust and rolled as far as we dared with power lines coming up. We had a positive climb of about 50fm and cleared the wire with little to spare, but that little 4 banger was stressing and getting warm so we leveled a bit then nudged a bit working our way to a ridge line.

It must have been 10 mile from the runway and we were maybe 500' when we found the ridge wave and knew we made it. The updraft lifted us to over 4K where the air was cooler and all was okay.

Talking about it on the way home we agreed the right way to have done it was to get out of the wind at the air strip and wait until it cooled down. But what the heck, we lived didn't we?

Funny comparison tho', that Buff could hold our little Centurion in it's bomb bay.

Once I get the remodeling done on our house might have to sell out, pack up and go. Born and raised in Indiana and feel like I need to pack up and move at least once in my life. Never know what is out there if you don't take a chance to look.

Make you a list of things you like (mountains, beach, lots of open space for your own gun range, etc...) and take some 2-3 week visits at different times of the year and see what you like best. We've been all over the country and the wife is deciding that she likes east Tennessee best of all. She likes it better than Colorado. I have to get her to Wyoming or somewhere to check that out. I kinda like out west but I could settle in east Tennessee if I needed to it's just too close to the east coast. I'm wanting some land and open space.

Took my daughter to school over there a few years ago near Cody. Awesome place. At that time there were only 5 people per square mile in the state. I could work with that.

Winters can be brutal though, not sure I could deal with that.

I'd love to work at the Cody museum. What an incredible place that is.

Actually I think I'm ok, they do a Wild Bill shoot out each afternoon in the summer time and one of the saloon girls in the act I think was smitten with me. Sat on my lap and everything, Ma even got pictures, and she smelled nice too.

They had the rodeo every night a couple years ago when I was there. I figured it would really be po dunk having it every night but it was first class, better than the once or twice a year rodeo's we have around here.

Big crowd.

My wife and daughter had been through the museum when they went over to recon the school so they didn't want to go again. They dropped me off at 8 am and said we'll pick you up at 6. I was like yeah right, give me a couple hours. They said if you are done before 6 to call and they would come get me. Other than about 15 minutes for a cup of coffee and a muffin I spent all but about 45 minutes in the gun museum. There are actually 5 museums. Cody's personal stuff, some paintings, and indian artifacts.

I finished the first floor of guns and thought I'd go again, then I saw a sign that said something like if you enjoyed the bajillion guns on this floor go down stairs for a bajillion more. I had to hustle to look by 6 and your right I could have easily spent 2 more full days looking.

What a awesome collection. Incredible.

Volume 1 was a good read.
That was quick!! Vol II wasn't as good as Vol I as it had a lot of filler where it would introduce and resolve side stories that didn't reflect on the root subject. But, it does answer the questions and puts all the characters to bed. If you watch for it, Vol II is likely to appear on the list within a month or so.

Had an interesting days today at jury duty. It was a DWI trial and the DA was very sharp and quick, like what you would expect of an DA. The defense attorney was a buffoon both in appearance and asking questions of the jury. In fact he went first and asked one question "Do you believe a person os innocent until proven guilty?" Juror #7 said "Not if he was arrested drunk and failed a blood test. I'd presume that guy guilty." The attorney hadn't expected that and tripped all over his tongue and sat down. The judge was alarmed and asked him "Aren't you going to ask any more questions?" He just mumbled no.

Well the DA made up for it as he went on and on. "He asked each juror "Do you agree with the statement that 'Buzz driving is drunk driving'?" I said I don't know what he means by "Buzz" then he dove in deeper and we had a dialog which eventually led to impaired driving. He tied it into alcohol and drugs to which I replied that and driving while sleep deprived and a lot of other things that can impair your ability to drive. He came back to Buzz so I finally asked him to define buzz. To that the judge who obviously got a kick out of the whole exchange said the law does not define the term "buzz" nor does it define the term "drugs".

Then we got into reasonable doubt. I made the statement that reasonable is in the eye of the beholder, that each of us here likely has own own threshold of what's reasonable. So he moved through "beyond a fantasy of doubt" to "shred of doubt" which I agreed with, and wrapped it up with "Could you convict if you had any doubt he was guilty?" to which I replied "If I have any doubt that the defendant is guilty I cannot vote him guilty."

I don't understand why, but the ADA chose to exclude me from the jury. That's good for another year.

I like her attitude that you CAN fight your body's aging process. A lot of folks are afraid taking hormones are unnatural and a bad thing and too often they get that from their doctors. I say go for it. There was a sig line sometime back about doing a brody and sliding into the grave sideways, meaning live life to the fullest and then go. Might be something to that. You see the Vitamine T adds on TV running like crazy. The baby boomers are ready to fight! Sometimes I wish I were that young.

There were five houses of religion in a small Florida town:



The Presbyterian Church,


The Baptist Church ,


The Methodist Church ,


The Catholic Church and


The Jewish Synagogue...



Each church and Synagogue was over run with pesky squirrels.


One day,the Presbyterian Church called a meeting to decide what to do about the squirrels. After much prayer and consideration they determined that the squirrels were pre-destined to be there and they shouldn't interfere with God's divine will.



In The BAPTIST CHURCH the squirrels had taken up habitation in the baptistery. The deacons met and decided to put a cover on the baptistery and drown the squirrels in it.
The squirrels escaped somehow and there were twice as many there the next week.


The Methodist Church got together and decided that they were not in a position to harm any of God's creation. So, they humanely trapped the squirrels and set them free a few miles outside of town. Two days later the squirrels were back.


But......The Catholic Church came up with the best and most effective solution..They baptized the squirrels and registered them as members of the church. Now they only see them on Christmas, Ash Wednesday, Palm Sunday and Easter.



Not much was heard about the Jewish Synagogue, but they took one squirrel and had a short service with him called circumcision and they haven't seen a squirrel on the property since.

I bought my senior llife time hunting lisence to hunt tree rats and Turkeys. I use to hunt Yotes but its too cold at night anymore. Enjoy your youth its a wonderous thing that is soon a memory. Fish more swear less and always smoke the best cigar you can afford.

Probably too controversial to mention on a light-hearted thread, but.....

I think Penn State football should be given the death penalty by the NCAA for extreme lack of institutional control (that rule applies to the coaches conduct). At least a three year ban to cleanse their out of control culture.

Allow the current players to transfer immediately without a "sitting out" penalty, or else remain at school on full scholarship to earn their degree.

She's fantastic in any language. I "discovered" her while watching TV in Germany in the 80's and bought every record of hers that I could find. She turns my age... 66... July 22. There's a wealth of videos of her singing on YouTube and the "Net. Another great French singer is Hélène Ségara. I went looking for someone similar to Mireille to add to my French women collection, but Mireille is my favorite.

Wow, I spent a bit of time on You tube and she is terrific. Of course the side bar there led me to my first infatuation with a singer Nana Mouskouri, so I've been hanging out there for a while now. She was right -- our generation didn't have the green thing in its day.

Grocery stores bagged our groceries in brown paper bags, that we reused for numerous things, most memorable besides household garbage bags, was the use of brown paper bags as book covers for our schoolbooks. This was to ensure that public property, (the books provided for our use by the school) was not defaced by our scribblings. Then we were able to personalize our books on the brown paper bags.

But too bad we didn't do the green thing back then.

We walked up stairs, because we didn't have an escalator in every store andoffice building. We walked to the grocery store and didn't climb into a 300-horsepower machine every time we had to go two blocks.

But she was right. We didn't have the green thing in our day.

Back then, we didn't fire up an engine and burn gasoline just to cut the lawn. We used a push mower that ran on human power. We exercised by working so we didn't need to go to a health club to run on treadmills that operate on electricity.

But she's right; we didn't have the green thing back then.

We drank from a fountain when we were thirsty instead of using a cup or a plastic bottle every time we had a drink of water. We refilled writing pens with ink instead of buying a new pen, and we replaced the razor blades in a razor instead of throwing away the whole razor just because the blade got dull.

But we didn't have the green thing back then.

Back then, people took the streetcar or a bus and kids rode their bikes to school or walked instead of turning their moms into a 24-hour taxi service. We had one electrical outlet in a room, not an entire bank of sockets to power a dozen appliances. And we didn't need a computerized gadget to receive a signal beamed from satellites 23,000 miles out in space in order to find the nearest burger joint.

But isn't it sad the current generation laments how wasteful we old folks were just because we didn't have the green thing back then?

Sears Roe buck catalogs were sitting in every out house, guraatee u that much. That was a nice thing tha tI never thoght about when I was a kind was thatIf I had to take a dunk, I dind't have to come back home, I just went into any neighbors yard and used their outhouse. I wold nt call themcommunity sh!tters but no one ever cared if u used theirs for they ujderstood. tell thatto your grand is and their first sentence will be, "whats an outhouse".

I remember a lot of that too, and I'm not even as old as Jocko. Remember when the stores gas stations were closed on Sunday too? And someone else pumped your gas, cleaned your windows, and checked the oil too?

Kids went outside and played instead of sitting in front of the boob tube? And what about a house with no air conditioning. We did have a window unit air conditioner in one room though.

Yeah, I remember all of that stuff. Now our oceans are a slurry of slowly deteriorating plastic drink bottles and bags and the fish we eat from the seas are filled with plastic from living in those plastic filled seas... the ones that aren't killed by plastic debris like monofilament nets, plastic bags that look like jellyfish, and six-pack holders. I've seen seals and waterfowl being slowly choked to death by crap like that. Almost everything we throw away could be recycled or used as fuel in a power plant.

I just took my wife's 2001 Volvo S40 out for a test spin. I took it to Costco to get her tires rotated and balanced Thursday. We had a cloudburst while I was there and I was having too much fun on the last big whifferdill offramp on the way home. I was driving with my usual gusto and thought I would take a second glance for traffic before exiting onto the main road back toward home, so I kinda tapped the brakes... bad move... instant 180° :eek: and slid into the curb with the driver side of the car... jumped the curb into the grass. There was no traffic in front or near me from behind, thankfully! I was able to turn around and exit the low area of the curb/sidewalk and drive on. I stopped first chance and surveyed the damage because I saw the gas tank access door was open. There was a lot of grass stuck in both tires between the bead and the rims and the left rear alloy wheel had a 1/2" strip of the rim about 5-6 inches long broken off, but the tire was holding air. There seemed to be no other damage or any airbag deployments, so I drove on home. The air pressure and dropped to 15 PSI by the next morning so I got out the space-saver 50mph/50-mile tire, washed and treated it with silicone... after removing the LARGE yellow warning sticker from the wheel... and its very persistent adhesive!

I ordered a used alloy wheel online and will get that changed over and get 4-wheel alignment done at Volvo. I had been wanting to do that, anyhow, as the car is over 11 years old and that hasn't been done.

My new Google nexus 7 Tablet came in yesterday and I charged it up and registered at Google Play... got a $25 spending credit for stuff there. It's a super tablet, but I'm reading a book on my "old" one ,and today is the best gun show downtown at the convention center where the president just was campaigning this past Thursday.

Wifey is about to venture out in the Volvo after two days at home. I hope that she has no problems. Tuesday will be two weeks since she was laid off at work and she has a lot of running around to do next week... on the temporary spare... looking for a job and going to the job fair at the same convention center.

I'm gonna grab the hurricane fund and go to the gun show for a few hours and look around. I don't intend to buy a gun, but you never know if you might see a deal too good to pass up. I DO feel a little guilty!

We only get two meals out of one... my wife and I... but the last half I get to pick the bones, too. The Wal-Mart chickens are so salty we would almost choke, but the Costco ones are fine... no EXTRA salt added.

Dang! I went to the gun show at the convention center and they were having an Herbal-Life convention or something. I tried to call Wifey but she was still on the phone with her mother. So I went to Shooters and looked at guns there. CW9/40's and CM9/40's were on sale for $349.99. I found a used P9 on sale for $470... was $520. I kind of thought about it, and pulled the slide off to check it out... not as clean as I would have liked, so no sale.

When I got home I checked the calendar and the gun show was at the fairgrounds... the "lesser" show. That's why I tried to call my wife. Maybe I'll get there tomorrow. I made up a sign to wear and had my S&W 645 to look for a trade... maybe. I also had the hurricane fund... just in case.

The good show is August 4th weekend, so I'll have another chance, unless my "Alzheimer's" acts up again.:rolleyes:

I've only been to one gun show and couldn't even get to all the tables is was so packed. But I don't recall seeing people wearing signs. Since sellers buy tables I'd think management would frown on that. Is that the sign that says "Kick me HERE V" ? :)

I don't recall being successful selling any guns that way... or much ammo, but I did that many years ago before I saw any others, but you do see guys with signs trying to sell stuff. Hey, it's buy, sell, or trade!

At least I got to Sam's Club and got gas. I cleverly waited until the price had gone up 20¢ a gallon before getting my six 5-gallon "cans" filled for my lawn tractor and big generator. It's hurricane season and I used StaBil and StaBil Marine Gas Treatment in each for gas longevity and protection against water condensation caused by the alcohol component in our gas down here. I probably have half a 16-gallon tank of last season's gas left in the generator. I'll fill up with the new and be good to go. I put the gas I had in the cans in our cars to use up. The StaBil extends the use of the gas for at least a year, but the clock starts on the StaBil itself when you break the seal and mine is two years old or so.

The Pastors Wife

The pastor's wife was expecting a baby, so he stood before the congregation and asked for a raise. After much discussion, the congregation passed a rule that whenever the pastor's family expanded; so would his paycheck.

After 6 children, this started to get expensive and the congregation decided to hold another meeting to discuss the pastor's expanding salary.

A great deal of yelling and inner bickering ensued, as to how much the pastor's additional children were costing the church, and how much more it could potentially cost.

After listening to them for about an hour, the pastor rose from his chair and spoke, "Children are a gift from God, and we will take as many gifts as He gives us."

Silence fell over the congregation. In the back pew, a little old lady struggled to stand, and finally said in her frail voice, "Rain is also a gift from God, but when we get too much of it, we wear rubbers."

The entire congregation said, "Amen

Mountain Man !!
Many years ago, in the days of the mountain men a mountain man was captured by the Indians. They didn't kill him. They had a test for him, not a written test but an endurance test, a "gauntlet" if you will.

If he lived through the gauntlet he would get all his pack-horses, weapons, furs, and supplies back. He would also be able to travel and hunt in the tribes territory without any harm coming to him. If he didn't pass the gauntlet, well, it did not matter, because he would be dead.

The Chief, in front of the whole tribe showed the mountain man 3 tee-pees. he told the mountain man, " In the 1st tee-pee is a gallon jug of 'white lightning'. When you pick it up, you can not put it down until empty. You drink all of it. In 2nd tee-pee, female grizzly with bad tooth. You pull tooth. In 3rd tee-pee, squaw. Very horny squaw. you satisfy squaw."

Well, the mountain man thought this shouldn't be too hard. He had fought bears before, and he had been with women before. The only thing that concerned him was that he wasn't much of a drinking man. He had nothing to lose so he went in the 1st tee-pee. He picked up the jug and pulled the stopper. he started drinking. after about 2 hours he came out, staggering and stumbling. He seemed quite disoriented and the chief pointed to the 2nd tee-pee and said, "Bear."

The crowd laughed and made fun of the drunken mountain man as he stumbled towards the 2nd tee-pee. As soon as he entered the tee-pee the fight started, growling, screaming, cursing, more growling, yelling and plenty of other noises came from the tee-pee. About 30 minutes after he went in, he came out. He belched. He farted. He hiked up his buckskins and he asked the Chief, " Now,,, where's that squaw that had that sore tooth??"

Looks like my stand up career ended before it started - LOL!

As for what's on my mind?
My big project went well.
So after two years I finally get to take vacation time.
Six months of Fridays off!

I think I'll do something completely different.
Like go to the Range!

Looks like my extended, triple ported, chamber opend for HPs
Bar-Sto barrel for my P239 is going to be late.
What a surprise.

It's probably a good thing there isn't many after market parts or
gunsmith work to be done on a Kahr MK40 Elite.
It's the only bone stock auto loader I have LOL!

I still want my new barrel...

You are right and it really must be a sad thought for her. They really were that powerful for many years and now back to where they started. I suppose if some had their way we would be back to 13 colonies looking at all those states we used to have, but sold to China to pay off our national debt.

One Sunday morning, the pastor noticed little Alex standing in the foyer of the church staring up at a large plaque. It was covered with names and small American flags mounted on either side of it. The six-year old had been staring at the plaque for some time, so the pastor walked up, stood beside the little boy, and said quietly, 'Good morning Alex.' 'Good morning Pastor,' he replied, still focused on the plaque. 'Pastor, what is this? ' The pastor said, 'Well son, it's a memorial to all the young men and women who died in the service.'

Soberly, they just stood together, staring at the large plaque. Finally, little Alex's voice, barely audible and trembling with fear asked,

'Which service, the 8:15 or the 10:30 ?'

Motorcyclist A motorcyclist picked up his friend from work one raw autumn day. The friend complained he was cold from the wind, so the driver stopped and got his friend to turn his coat around, so the collar would stop the wind blowing down the neck.

They went on a ways, but came to a construction site. Quickly the cyclist bumped through the dirt path, and at the end turned around to check how his friend was doing. But the friend had fallen off!

The cyclist rushed back along the dirt path, and discovered a group of construction workers gathered around his friend. He pushed his way through the crowd and asked how his friend was doing.

"He seemed alright," came the reply, "until we turned his head around the right way."

Appears to me the Google Australian hurdler is a very happy young woman! She does have a presence and she does get results winning her sprint. I'm happy for her.

Perhaps confidence is mixed in with happiness too? That's a good thing too.

Yeah, I thought about that as she did her dance and even waved to the crowd BEFORE the race. Had to make the others say "Wow, what am I up against?"
