Never thought I'd say this but I think I might be done buying guns unless something really special comes along with a price tag to match. I'm having trouble shooting what I have and I don't do safe queens or having guns just to own them. There is just nothing out there at the moment I'm really wanting.

My rifles are....
Springfield M1 Garand.. 30-06
Marlin 336 30/30
Ruger 580 Mini 14 ranch rifle. 5.56 (223)
Yugo SKS 7.62x39
Mosin Nagant 91/30 7.62x54r
Ruger 10/22 carbine
Marlin 81 DL bolt action .22

Shot Gun Mossberg Crusier 20Ga.

Pistols
CZ75B 9mm
RIA 1911 45 Cal.
Kahr PM9
Glock G26 Gen 3
Kel Tec P3at .380.
Ruger MKIII 22/45 RP Bull Barrel Target.

I love owning and shooting them all, but this is getting out of hand.:banplease:

The only thing I don't have that I WOULD like, is a .22LR with a threaded barrel and a suppressor that isn't too big, but effective, and preferably in stainless... Florida and all.

AND get my 10/22's barrel threaded to accept the suppressor!

I've thought about a suppressed gun but without property to shoot on
I just can't justify any good reason at all to have one.

Did have access to private property to shoot on years ago.
I have a 12 gauge mossy that I haven't' shot in 10 years.
Used to hip shoot mannequins with slugs.

I shoot most of my handguns regularly.
But my Glock G27-357 and Kahr MK40 Elite get most of the love.

My S&W per-lock revolver collection was totally unplanned.
But I feel charmed to have the four guns I have.
They are all S&W Classics.

I'm in the process of upgrading all my guns
and am breathing new life into my two Sig Sauers.
I have high hopes for both of them.

Generally I want guns I can actually carry and that fill a specific role.
1) Full Size Service Auto: Sig Sauer P220/45
2) Compact Service Auto: Sig Sauer P239/357
3) Sub Compact Service Auto: Glock G27/40
4) Micro Service Caliber Auto: Kahr MK40 Elite/40

As I look at new autos they generally fall in one of these categories
and I've got them all well covered.

Revolvers;
I'm a hard core, die hard, classic S&W guy through and through.
And the four I have make me feel complete as a revolver guy.
N-Frame 629 4" 44 Magnum Mountain Gun
K-Frame 65 3" 357 Magnum Military and Police Heavy Barrel
J-Frame 640 2.125" 357 Magnum Centennial
J-Frame 342 ti 1 7/8" 38+P Titanium Centenial

So for now I just can't see buying anything else,
for now

You don't have to be done Popeye. You can just start buying me some. Or even just giving me some of yours would work. Here's what I would take in, out of the goodness of my heart....since they are neglected. in case you were wondering:

Ruger 580 Mini 14 ranch rifle. 5.56 (223)
Yugo SKS 7.62x39
Ruger 10/22 carbine

Shot Gun Mossberg Crusier 20Ga.

Great collection you have, I think you're set. Just need a backup to everything now.

I'm hopeless, I've said that dozens of times. I'm done, got everything I need, but lately it seems I don't go a month after a purchase before something else pops up on my radar. Greg here doesn't help, since I want everything he post a picture of, the rest of you instigate frequently as well.

Fortunately after the boating accident I have some space to fill if not the dollars to get it done.

Since Mikey didn't pick it I'll take the CZ75 if it's up for grabs.

Here we go again, the CZ has been on the list for quite a spell and now it comes up again.

I better go make some sawdust. Almost got a set of buckeye burl done, photos maybe later today.

I've almost bought several.
Just waiting for that gun I can't resist.
Or realize a new role for a gun I haven't defined and filled.

Neither of you will get my CZ. It's my bedside gun hanging on the bed rail in a cheap clip on holster. During the day, hidden by the bed skirt. At night, bed skirt tucked behind the holster. 19 rounds, DA first shot, SA remaining 18. If that doesn't do it, got another two mags ready to go :)

Surv I think you nailed it. I have these and enjoy shooting them but I do feel like they do not get the attention they deserve. So I've been asking myself how much is to much. I've got to get control over this gun addiction. I think it's been two months since I've shot my Mini 14 and I love that rifle.

I'm not looking for logic or an excuse for your addiction, mostly looking for logic or an excuse for myself.

What about setting up a determined rotation schedule for using your cache of guns? When you've gone through the rotation you reward yourself by adding to the collection?

You guys (all of you) and my son, are the reason I went from one a beat up old Glenfield Model 25, and an ancient Wards Western Field 20ga pump on July 4th 2011 to a CM9, K9, SR22, Mosin-Nagant, a refurbished Glenfield 25 and a reconditioned Wards Western Field 20ga pump today.

And I ain't done yet. I yearn for a nice 1911, a Ruger 10/22, a Mossberg 500, an AR and a few others.

I currently feel all these guns and the ones to come are on a one way trip to me. I don't wish to sell any, just add to their brethren.

For some reason reading this post I find myself humming that song, We've only just begun.......................... Burt Bacharach, can't remember who did it.

Umm, does holding and fondling qualify as using the cache of weapons. If so I have some serious purchasing to do.

One of my problems is pick them up roll them around in my hands an then wonder why I haven't shot a specific rifle or pistol in such a long time. Guns are meant to be shot not sit in some dark safe. Somehow I think I've enjoyed the chase of getting these guns as much as I have owning them. Some I bought brand new some where used and some of them I've wheeled and dealed to get. While others like my M1 Garand I bought in as is condition and rebuilt it and brought it back to life. That was a total labor of love. It's by far my most cherished gun possession. Before I buy anymore guns I need to sell or trade some off. The good folks at the gunshop put my name on the list for a new S&W Shield in case I was interested in one. When it comes in and if I like it I might put the glock on it in trade as part of the sale if I do not sell it before hand. I plan on putting a few feelers out that I have a G26 for sale and see what happens. The Glock is one of the guns I wheeled and dealed to get at a good price. I think I've just come to the point of how much is to much. I think I have enough rifles to cover any sort of SHTF or zombie attack. :D

My 629 is a beast.
But I'm a relatively small guy (5'9" 157 lbs) with small hands.
I'll never sell my big N-Frame 44.
But if I had it to do all over again?
I think a L-Frame 686 would have been a better choice.
For me, the 65 357 3" heavy barrel K-Frame is the perfect sized combat magnum.

We all talk about must have 1911, 44 mag, Bla, Bla, Bla...
But for me a combat magnum is the must have.

That and a combat auto of course - LOL!

There was a time when I had.... not mentioning numbers... an "extensive" collection.

A revolver could happen. I have always been a history buff. My recent Mosin purchase validates that. A GI 1911 would be cool. A Mosin revolver would be very cool or a P08 Luger.
I like the idea of holding history.

Popeye, be strong my friend. There's a lot more out there needing love and attention.

Bawanna
07-01-2012, 08:10 PM
Oh yeah, you need a Nagant revolver to go with your Mosin. Itsthelaw sent me a bunch of ammo for mine, I plan to shoot it on vacation. Won't let me shoot it at our indoor ranges cause of the steel.

I saw ammo for it on my first visit to a Cabela's. Strange stuff, bullet's completely down inside the case and kind of crimped in place.
The cylinder has a spring and when the hammer is back it moves forward so the case gets up against the forcing cone.

Cheap, I think you can get one for 80 to 100 bucks. I paid too much at Buds, 129 I think, seen em cheaper other places.

Tell your wife Jocko said it was ok for you to get one.

Just nothing out there that really makes me want to loose sleep over or a strong desire to own with what I already have, but just can't bring myself to sell any of them except for maybe the Glock. Think I'm going to take that old Marlin 81 DL that I just rebuilt the cartrige carry assembly in, and stick it behind the seat of the truck in a rilfle case. She's old (about 1953) has some exterior barrel wear to the finish but she's a real sweet shooter. At least this way it will have a useful purpose and not just sit in a safe in the dark.

Let's face it... The carry gun tends to be a viewed as a tool and treated as one. When it's worn out, it gets replaced.

All the others, though, have a special place in our hearts and it's hard to part with them.

That's why I was so broken up after that unfortunate boating accident when everything went to the bottom...

I committed the unforgivable and traded my .357 for a 92FS, and i haven't regretted it so far. I have added lots of others to the collection since then and have large caliber covered I believe.

I doubt if I'll ever be done. I don't mind the safe queens a bit, as long as it's quality hardware that will appreciate over time. I have a few rifles I'd like to get still. The lever action in a pistol caliber being the one I'm fixated on at the moment. Then there's the AR15, and possibly a good semi auto .308. They've done as well or better than my other investments, so will keep on buying while I can.

I guess it's my old age is coming through from being born in the 40's growing up in, what I guess you'd call a middle class family in the 50's and early 60's. If I don't need it,or use it, I don't own it. Never quite got into the collection of things I don't use. Like I mentioned earlier I never thought I'd ever say this about the guns I own. So I guess I have come to the point of being done to adding to the collection. I'll just have to give it more thought to see if I want to thin the heard to make room for other guns if I decide to buy anymore. I have no interest in tacticool black rifles. I'm much more old school. As for now I have no interest in anything out there that would make me want to get rid of anything I already have.
Who knows though maybe tomorrow I'll walk into a gunshop and find some old project rifle or shotgun that needs some TLC and a good rebuilding. I love bringing old rifles back to life providing there not to far gone.

It'a good thing that retirement income doesn't afford me the opportunity to just rush out and buy the guns I want when I want or I'd be up to my ears in them. Many times I've backed off a pistol or rifle I thought I really wanted while I was saving for it. Once I was really passionate about buying a M1 Carbine. Then one day I picked up a brand new 580 Mini 14 ranch rifle. The passion for the M1 carbine left the first time I shot the mini14. I absolutely love those new Mini's.

They say the first step to recovery is to admit you have a problem. So here goes... My Name is Popeye and I'm a gunaholic and I have to stop this nonsense of buying guns I do not need. :o Ok now that I have that off my shoulders. I'm on my way to the GS and to Wally World to buy large quanties of various sizes of ammo and cleaning supplies.Cause I'ma gonna need them. No more rifles or pistols will be left unshot. I'm going to sistematically rotate shooting them as suggested in an earlier reply.

Hard to believe this terrible addiction started with one pistol a few years back. For years I was satified with just Ruger security six in a 38/357 and a 20 Ga Mossberg under the bed for HD. Then came 911 and things started to change real quick into a full blown addiction. Now I'm out of Farkin control. Yesterday when I went to get large quanties of ammo at the GS for the guns, being that I'm not buying anymore guns and just shooting what I have already. I'll be darned if someone didn't put down on the counter a very nice little Henry Lever action .22 right in front of me. Tinman your not helping the cause by bringing out all the fun in them. However after some thought it could play with some new found friends the 10/22 ,22/45 and the old Marlin 81DL. Plus I did just buy two Federal 550 round bricks for them at Wally World the other day.

Is this a payback for the Mosin??:D

You can buy it now and be happy. Or you can suffer for a week or two and then buy it anyhow. I've been there.

I say if you have the loot. Stick with be happy.

I may have one of the worst jobs for those of us that are afflicted. I tend to see every firearm brought into the store, and if I don't see them I look at the log book. My latest "aquirement" (is that even a word???) is a very simple little Mossberg 46M .22 bolt action. I like the old and odd. Price was right and a little refurbishing I'll have some that'll turn heads during squirrel season.

No, the wife doesn't know about this one, either.

You had to bring that up, didn't you? I just quite smoking at midnight, this past Saturday! I started in my junior year of college in 1963, and this is my first attempt to quit. It's hard, but not as bad as I thought it would be - five days and I'm still hanging in there. I've been taking rides in one of the convertibles late at night or in the early morning when it's cool to get my mind off of it.

As far as guns are concerned, I think I'm done too. I didn't realize it until I sold one of my beloved 3rd gen S&W 45's last month and now my CW40 is on the block if I find someone interested. It's become redundant since I got the CW45 in December, anyway. I'm far from being out of the sport with fifteen pistols and a 45 carbine, but it seems to be less important to me lately. This is the only gun forum I've visited in the last week or ten days, and that's unheard of for me. I haven't actively looked for any gun deals lately either.

AJBERT I'd be in real trouble if I had your job and Barths money.;) I love old guns , especially rifles.

ODELL Keep up the good work and good luck with the not smoking. You'll be much better off not using those coffin nails. I quit a two pack a day habbit about 14 years ago. I suffered pretty good for about a month. In the end though well worth it. Your right and that's part of the gun addiction. I have to many guns that fit the same bill. I thinned out the heard a few years back, but have come to realize that I need to do it again. I want to take a look at the new shield and the XDslim 9mm when it comes out. Then I'll probably consolidate and get rid of some. When I got my PM9 that one gun fit my CC needs. I got rid of a Bersa thunder 380 in a trade for a 1981 Marlin 336 30/30 in pristine condition. I always wanted a 30/30. The PM9 also put the XD9sc on the shelf and it helped finance a 1911. It didn't consolidate much but it did get rid of the guns I didn't need or use anymore for CC. We'll see what happens I'm not in a hurry. Just need to watch my buying habits more carefully.

Hang in there O'Dell! I had a friend (who I never met in person) from a work related forum who died a terrible death over the course of a year from lung cancer. He just wanted to tell every one he met to quit smoking (not for their own lives, but for their family's sake). Before it got really bad, he even went and spoke at some local junior high schools about it.

So, I want to encourage you to stay strong... you can do it.
And maybe buy yourself a gun if you feel the urge to light up. :D

O'Dell, I quit smoking back in 2000 after my second of 3 heart attacks (the first one went undiagnosed because of HMO malfeasance). It gets easier and easier as time goes on. There are no physical withdrawal symptoms. It is just a matter of exterting your will and retraining it. It will take 2 or 3 months for it to no longer smell inviting. But by that time your retrained will, will be comfortable saying "No. Never again."

Well, don't neglect us here, O'Dell. I am cooling off on buying any more guns for a while. I don't have as many as you. I don't have the resources because I am living on SSDI. But I am very pleased with my three carry guns.

The CM9 has always worked as slick as it looks, but it amazes me how much smoother it has gotten with a couple of hundred rounds through it. I put the 5 lb striker spring in it shortly after I got it, and that trigger is now "like butter!" I can carry it behind my hip in my PJ IWB Holster and forget it is there because it is so comfortable. I also carry it in my gorgeous James Dean IWB holster—a work of art in leather. My CM9 slides in that holster and says "I'm home!"

The S&W 638 Airweight Snubby with the fantastic 4.25 lb DA trigger pull that my smith accomplished on it is my favorite grab it and go gun, now. It fits in my hand so well with the Hogue Bantam Rubber Grip, points and shoots so well and I have such confidence in it going BANG up to 5 times when I need it. I have a PJ IWB Holster for it, as well. Paul's holsters are fantastically comfortable, practical and secure all day carry choices! But my favorite carry holster for my Snubby is the custom designed, reverse canted AIWB Holster that James Dean made for me. The gun is so easily accessible there standing or sitting, and it hides easily under an untucked shirt (although the holster is tuckable, so I could wear it that way, too). I also have a beautiful and perfect leather Pocket Holster for my Snubby, made by James Dean. I wear the gun in it around the house and occasionally on a quick trip. It prints in my tight jeans pocket against my skinny leg, but so what? I find that the Snubby is easier and quicker to draw from my pocket than the CM9, or even the much smaller Taurus TCP 380. Something about the shape of the gun and the grip facilitates the draw.

My new Taurus 738 TCP 380 is waiting for me to pick it up at my smith's. He took it down, fluffed and buffed it, polished the feed ramp, cleaned and lubed it, then test fired it. Final bill: $30! You can't beat that! I'll have to put enough rounds through it to ensure reliability. Then, it will be in my rotation. Great pocket gun. Very concealable IWB, as well. A better trigger and a bit less recoil than the TCP or P3AT. Got it for $191 at Bud's. Bought a couple of extra mags, which were not too expensive and are high quality, as is the gun. Lifetime warranty on this gun. Not, I'm sure, as sweet a shooter as a P380, but I am very pleased with it at less than half the price! :)

Eventually, I want to get more guns: a home defense shotgun, a KT Sub2000 in 9mm, a rifle or 2 and a pistol or 2 in 22lr, a lever action rifle and a SA pistol in 45LC, and I want to get into the 45acp caliber, probably with a CW45 first, but then something in the 1911 family.

But for now, some belt tightening. :(

Thanks J and Popeye for the encouragement. I guess I'm lucky because I have no health issues according the my annual checkup in January. Blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose, and all the other blood values are good or better than normal. I lead a pretty active life, so I get plenty of exercise and still do the same regimen at home I've done for forty years. I'm just trying to catch it before something does go wrong.

Not a bad list, but it would leave me unsatisfied. Everyone should have a Glock 19, a .357 revolver, a 12 ga shotgun, an AR-15, and, and, and, and...

I have a fair number, but I'm not done by any means.

I have fifteen hand guns and a 45 carbine, but I don't have one item on your list. The only one I would even consider is a 12 gauge, and that's a low priority.

Popeye

I have enjoyed my S&W Shield 9mm.

If you are patient waiting out the current demand to settle down you should find one for $399.

I have owned and sold a Kahr CM9 and Beretta Nano and I can honestly say the Shield is my favorite. In fact I find my full size XD 45 collecting dust when I head to the range.

Recently I was trying on some very small frame guns (I.e. Ruger LCP & Sig 238) and found the Shield had a more natural fit for my medium to large hand size and being able to pinkie grip the flush magazine adds to the enjoyment and for me it fits as a pocket gun in my Dockers.

I have zero interest in another glock of any type. Little interest in a 357 revolver being I sold one a few years back. I like my Mini 14 over the AR's. Wouldn't mind having a 12 Ga.though if the price was right.

Interesting thread. I've been away for a while relaxing in Yellowstone country so haven't followed this until now. Saw a grizzly this time - cool!

Never thought I'd say this, but my ardor for new acquisitions has cooled a lot lately, after a number of new additions to the family over the past 2 years.

I actually have a couple items that I just haven't had time to shoot yet, mostly because I just don't have time. Hard to justify buying something else until this changes.

I've also learned that when you have a bunch of things already, buying one more doesn't bring the pleasure that it did in the past. In that respect, those of you who only have a few guns will likely get far more enjoyment out of your next purchase than I will.

Having said that, my new H&K HK45c is really, really nice, so I'm going to focus on enjoying it as much as possible instead of thinking I need something else in addition. My 1911's are now jealous, and Glocks need not apply.

Great pistol - I bought the same one a year or two ago and it's an excellent shooter. I really should carry it more often, but the CW45 is just so convenient to strap onto my belt. I keep a full size USP 40 with NS's as my home defense gun and also have a compact SS USP 45. I've often said, that if I knew ahead of time that I was going to be in a gunfight, one of my HK's would definitely be with me.
