View Full Version : Kahr service did not fix the problem.

My CW45 will not feed the 2nd and 3rd round out of the 7 round mag. And I have to use the slide release for the first round or it won't chamber. The 6 round mags will slingshot a round just fine, but not the 7 shot.
I got the gun back in 6 days, was happy about that, they said they polished the feedramp and did something else that I forget what it was. Round 2 nosedives into the mag, and round 3 usually gets caught up at about a 45 degree angle. The rest of the mag feed fine.
I guess I'll send it back to Kahr, perhaps I didn't make myself clear enough on the enclosed letter I sent with the gun. The mags work ok with only 4 or less rounds in them, but the first 3 rounds are a bit of a problem to load. They said they test fired it, and it was ok, well, if you just load 2 or 3 rounds in the mag and test fire it it shoots fine. I'm not very happy with their service at this point, but as I said, perhaps my letter describing the problem wasn't clear enough.

Yeah sometimes being able to accurately describe the problem in writing and the recipeint understanding it are two different things. Give them another chance. I would call and talk to whomever is going to do the work and explain to them and hopefully they will get it squared away.

Did you send the mags in with the gun? If not, I would, on the next go around.

Yep, sent the mags, and described the problem to Eon, and wrote up a description, but didn't talk to the reparman. I'm sure part of the problem is mis-communication between me and Eon and the repar guy. I may do another mag and take pictures of the actual jams to send along. I'm thinking when they test fired it, they probably only loaded 2 or 3 rounds in each mag and it shot fine, it did that before, the mag has to be full before the problems start. And not sure I communicated that very well.
It's funny, how the 2nd round nose dives back into the mag, then the third one goes in at too steep and angle to chamber. Sounds like a mag problem to me, but I can not get them to work, no matter what cleaning, lubing, or anyting else I do makes any difference, and all 3 mags behave the exact same way.
I have taken the mags apart, cleaned and lubed, and made sure the springs were in correctly, so not sure what else on my end I can do. I think if I send pictures with a better detailed explantion, then maybe that will click better with the repair man.
I just went out and shot it in the barn, so many fireworks were going off that I doubt anyone even noticed. We are only supposed to shoot shotguns out here since we got annexed by the little town to the south of me. It is just crazy out here now, you go from one little town into the next with no kind of symetrical boundries at all, it's just a patchwork of small towns grabbing what they can. I can drive a mile down my street and go through 3 differerent towns.
Anyway, I think pictures and a better explanation might help the situation, and if not, maybe they'll exchange the mags for 6 round mags that work. Also my 8 round Chip McCormick mag quit working, it won't feed at all now. The rounds don't get picked up at all now. It was the only extended capacity magazine that worked before Kahr worked on it. Now it had some feeding problems, and I wouldn't carry it as an extra mag, but it was fun at the range. That really has me confused.

Well, a picture is worth a 1,000 words. S&W didn't believe that I could load and close the cylinder on a 357 round in my 638. Sent the picture and all was clear to them!
You don't think that they put in a new mag catch? Some how or another maybe the follower or spring is hanging up on the mag catch?
Can you repeat the problem if you load 4 rounds? 5? 6?

That's what I was wondering. Follower catching on the mag release or sharp edges on the feed lips of the magazines.
Also I have noticed on mine (6 round mag is all I have) that the when I get to round 5 and especially 6, the rounds dive and don't stay upright. I have thought about the follower mod (sanding the top of the follower) that I think I saw in the CW45 sticky.

the 2/3rd round thing sure sounds like the magazine follower is getting stuyck by the magazine release button. The gun can't count as u well know so if it is happening on round 2/3, IMO it is the magazine follower. Look at the kahr tech section and hit on the propper prepping thread and it will walk u right through checking this out. takes 5 minutes, the fix is less time, when u state the 6 round mag works fine then IT HAS TO BE THE MAGAZINE
No doubt they mis understood u, now IMO it is time to fix this little piddly issue urself.... It will only take a few minutes to heck this out. I could very well be wrong to, but no harm no foul either.:7:

I followed Jocko's advice on my CW9 mags. Four out of six had noticeable drag when the follower hit the mag release. A little sanding and filing and drag gone. I never tried the mags as they came but they all work fine now.

I would bet a lot of kahrs have went back with this issue and the fix as most well know is simple. I seriously doubt if kahr knows this and unless it is spelled out in layman terms they are probably gonna load a mag with 3 orr 4 rounds and test shoot it and it will be OK, for the magazine follower is not in that magazine tube cut out window.

I've had great luck with Jason, the head gunsmith. He fixed my CW 45 after several tries by the others. Exceptionally decent human being.
Let them send you a shipping tag, last trip back cost me 80 bucks one way!
