Okay so I have a new CW45 and I'm trying to determine what to run in it for SD (after the 200rd break in period of course) I ran either Federal HST or SPEER gold dot 230 grain in my full size 45's. After must research and consternation I decided on the gold dot short barrel. Problem is I can't find them anywhere and I CAN get a 50 rd box of the standard Gold Dot for roughly the same price. Anybody use the "full size" 45 ammo in the shorter barrel? I figure even if it doesn't expand as intended it will act like 45 ball which is still pretty good. I don't think that 45 takes the velocity hit with shorter barrels as severly as the higher pressure 9mm and .40 rds that need the additional burn time. Thoughts anyone?

I've shot both HST and Gold Dot standard out of my CW45, and they shoot without problems or loss of accuracy. I don't have a chronograph, so I can't actually tell you the muzzle velocity. What I can tell you is, I wouldn't want to get hit with one. I don't really believe you need to shoot the short barrel ammo out of a 3.5 inch barrel. Others more knowledgable may wish to disagree.

That's good to know because I can get the "standard" loadings for about 70 cents a round and the SB is $1.60/rd WHEN you can find it.

Here's my recoil and flash testing at the range with closeups of the 230-gr bullets and the cavities:

lots of good self defense rounds. I have found that #1, IT BETTER GO BANG EVERY DMAN TIME. Find that round, testit out, then stick with it. 99.995% of the owners are never gonna need to use that round in a SHTF scenario ANDANY OF THESE ROUNDS TODAY WILL DO THE JOB,if u do yours

I havnt found anything that my cw 45 wont shoot. Whatever you can get your hands on for ammo, is what I do.

Speer Short Barrel does not come in box of 50.
I personally like Winchester Ranger T Series.
But Speer GDHP and Federal HST are good too.
All three are high tech HPs designed to open at low velocities.
And run fast burn low flash gunpowder.
