I took my CW9 to the range for the first time and I have to say there were no real surprises. I went through 100 rounds shooting a mixture of Aquila 115 grain FMJ, Aquila 117 grain JHP and Federal 147 grain hydroshocks. The FMJ and hydroshocks fed and shot great no issues the 117 JHP got hung up a few times (failure to feed) but a quick re-rack and all but one of them fed and shot. The other FTF forced me to drop the mag and shake the round out. I saw a video review that showed this guns off-centered feed ramp and how it can come into play hanging up some hollow points and looking at the round that I had to remove it had a dent in the edge of the HP just like in the video. The review went into how a HP with a flat thin edge gets dented and hangs up.
The gun seemed accurate enough; at 7 yards all of my shots hit the eight inch shoot and see targets I was using. I had some good groups but nothing to brag about and I am sure the more time I have with the gun getting used to a DA trigger will lead to better groups. Felt recoil was not an issue but after 100 rounds the aggressive checkering/ stippling on the backstrap left a small sore spot on my right palm that lasted an hour. (I have office worker hands so in that regard I might be a little wimpy). I also had with me my S&W 3913. The 3913 is a compact 9mm also with a 3.5 inch barrel like the CW9. The 3913 holds 8+1 shoots DA/SA and is a little bigger a lot heavier and wider than the CW9. The 3913 felt like a full sized 9mm after shooting the Kahr. I shot the 3913 a lot better that I did the Kahr but I have had it for 20 years.
The CW9 seems like it would be a great carry gun, it is light and easy to conceal, even without a holster I tucked it IWB in the 3:30 position under a t-shirt and it stayed put and no printing. I am looking into thin kydex holster for this gun ASAP. All in all Kahr makes nice guns and the CW9 is no exception and even though it is one of Kahr’s cheaper series of compact nines ($399.00 at Cabalas) it is a quality weapon. After breaking the gun in and figuring what ammo it likes I can’t see myself spending a lot of time with this gun at the range but for a concealed carry / SD gun, it will do the job.
update:
took the CW9 out again today and put 100 rounds of 115 gr FMJ down range. I had a couple of hang ups but a re-rack got it to battery. I put a inertube on the grip and it took care of any of the wear on my hand. Below is a pic of my Kahr and the best (http://www.universalshootingsports.com/index.php/topic,4146.0.html#) 5 round group I had shooting at 7 yards.
