ok so i have been saving most of my brass with the intention of eventually reloading once i can afford all of the stuff that is needed to do that. i just realized that is going to be a long time from now i don't have the money.
Can i take my spent brass to a scrap-metal type place? or at least find someone to buy it?

I take the brass I don't reload to the gun show and usually get a trade/discount from the reloading booth. But, to answer your question, you can recycle it. I currently have about 6000 9mm and 1000 45ACP sitting in coffee cans waiting to be reloaded.

Yes, We do it all the time with the brass from the honor guard at the cemetery. Helps us get some of the supplies we need. Such as parts and springs, cleaners and lubricants for the M1 Garands we use. We have 15
M1 's that must work when called apon to do so at military funerals. That money helps quite a bit.

Yes...scrap yards will take it. You could also try selling it on craigslist.

Either way you'll get some return for it.

I think you'll always do much better recycling it as brass to a reloader or getting credit at a store that will take it than at a metal recycler.
We've done that with dept brass and just get an instore credit to purchase cleaning supplies and that sort of thing.
Some reloader I'm sure would buy it.
I'm a brass hoarder myself, lots of coffee cans. Some for stuff I don't even shoot but there's always some day.

I have to agree with Bawanna and you will get way more $$$ from someone that reloads than you will a recycling center.

If you dont deprime them youll get scrap brass price, so knock the primers out and youll get #2 brass prices for them.I think you can get more just by selling them if they truly are reloadable quality.

up until a coupe of years ago when ammo prices really began to take their toll, and more, and more folks started reloading (and bass prices skyrocketed), I could pick up enough range brass to satisfy myself and my reloading buddies, and in a couple of months would have enough brass to sell for scrap. I rarely make the 25 mile round trip to the scrap yard with less than 30 lbs of brass (and whatever amount of aluminum cans I've let stack up), and often times have had as much as 50-80 lbs of range brass. The 80 lb brass trip also included about 30 lbs of aluminum.....brought home (well, left the scrap yard:)) with about $200. I used to go to the range twice a week (usually late afternoon), and many times shoot nothing but 50-100 rounds of 22lr... then spend an hour or so "policing" all the individual ranges for pick-up brass. Then the range hounds hit:( (o.k., I admit... I WAS a range hound). Now I can't pick up enough range brass to cover my gas money to the range. Still can't help myself... I have to scrounge a little every trip.
The brass my reload buddies don't need (or any revolver brass... MINE), still goes into my fun money stash. Last run I got $2.30/lb scrap price)
It's the oldfart equivalent to Easter egg huntin':D

Don't scrap it. Craigslist or sell it in a bulk mail box. List it on this forum.
