And came out with a Kahr CM9.
I went to look at the PF-9 and LCP because I need a pocket gun (for days like today when it's 102 degrees). I was looking at the used table quickly when I asked about a used PM40 .. the price was high but I was told to check out a "CM"9 -- I got the rundown on the differences , and was shown this tiny little 9mm. For $379 it was a no brainier. I had an LCP and hated it (well, shooting it at least. The LCP is great for what it's designed for SHTF but that's it.) but was going to get another one -- thank god I found this Kahr , $80 more for a 9mm that size from a company like Kahr? SOLD !
I said I'll take it. I didn't know about the CM series , just the P,PM, and CW. I must say its a very sharp looking gun and the perfect size/caliber I wanted.
I have it loaded with 124gr gold dots right now. Tommorow I will do the 200rd break in.
** first Kahr and first question -- it's okay to load a mah with the slide locked and release the slide to strip one right? The manual states do not stick the magazine in , and rack.

welcome aboard. there are two good sticky's u should read that might help u make that first shoot a dandy.
#1 kahr lube chart
#2 propper prepping of ur kahr
both on the kahr tech section.
Kahr manual states use the slide lock lever to load that first round due to what I think is such a strong recoil assembly to start out with. After a couple hundred rounds the gun will feel totally different. alot smoother and u willbe able to hand rack with ease. Master both ways, . Most all after some rounds down range can hand rack a round with ease. Pracitce does not make perfect but perfect practice does.
welcome aboard, the CM9 has a big following here and very soon u will be givent he cm membership logo on this forum..

You'll be far happier shooting the CM9 than the PF9.

Welcome to KahrTalk.
I believe you've made a very good choice. I bought a PM9 when I realized it could be pocket carried a good deal of the time. My PM9 has replaced most of my P3AT carry and has also taken a bite out of my Glock 26 carry.

I'm familiar with Glock disassembly , XD , and Smith. Is the breakdown process easy? Guess I'm about to find out !

Got her broke down pretty easy , lined up the lines pushed button , pulled the (plastic?) slide stop out.
It seemed like I didn't need the trigger pulled , once I popped the lock out it kind of just slid off ?

Take apart and rotate spring 180° Spin. Don't reverse.
Try again.

Totally agree! CM9 is MUCH better.
OP, congrats on a fine gun. Run 200 rounds hard and heavy through it. If it hiccups in the first few mags, don't worry, just keep shooting it. It slicks up pretty quickly.

Yep. Got a LCP to carry as my G26 is just too big many times. Got a CM9, sold the LCP (never carried it due to trigger and POA), and will be putting the G26 up for sale as well. G23 will stay though!:)

Wow , that was a good learning experience. !!!
Did the lube , reassembly was easy ... but not really. I feel the instructions are sooo detailed they are confusing ...
I said "there is no way this pin is going in that hole" , I was worried my gun wouldn't slide all the way back and was certin I was going to have to send it in. My wifi was down so YouTube videos didn't help ...
I then gave the pin a nice "push" and got it half in , looked at the (in my opinion) confusing directions and once I got the pin half way in I slid her back a little bit -- and locked everything in place , function test = fine !!!
Wow those were a long few hours , can't wait to hit the range tomorrow

Take your time on reassembly. The holes have to line up correctly before you push the slide release pin through the barrel lug and into the slide. It will get easier after the first few breakdowns. Make note it is a good practice to clean the striker channel with a spray through the little hole in the slide when you clean the gun. If you have trouble of any kind just post on this forum and wait for help. These guys are great and anxious to help.

Congrats on it! And search the forum with any questions, i've found almost everything here. If you cant find it, ask - lots of smart folks on here.
To 340's point above, note that to spray out the striker channel you should use CLP break free or non-chlorinated brake cleaner (not remoil...i suspect the former owner of my PM9 did that and it was massively gooky).
I opted to do a full detail strip of the slide and clean it out - it's not all that difficult and there's a lot of resources here on the forums - here's one thread i had in my history: http://kahrtalk.com/showthread.php?t=6501. I think its mentioned, but get a big freezer bag and hold it over the slide when you can just so no parts 'escape' :). The hardest part for me was getting the darn backplate back on, the striker spring fought me a bit.
Best of luck with it and be sure to give us a range report!

You out did yourself on this post jocko, just so Rudy don't get put in one of the tuxedos with the arms tied in back allow me to translate.
"No, no not a plastic slide stop. All metal my friend."..............I think, there are no certainties in life.
Nice job on "friend" though, well spelled and that's a tough one sometimes.

Good choice... didn’t care for the LCP at all.

I have both the CM9 and LCP, I pocket carry and CM9 prints to much when wearing slacks so I kept the LCP. My LCP is a pain to shoot but has functioned flawlessly, while my CM9 is on it's second recoil spring. I do like that the CM9 has a great trigger and is striker fired. The opening for the hammer on the back of slide, on the LCP, is a lint magnet I would really like the CM9 if the recoil spring was closed on both ends like my Glocks.

You started at the right place for success. There is a great community here behind these guns which is really valuable if/when you have questions. I have learned a lot in a short while. Please share how the first range visit goes.

I have the CM9 and the LCP also. I carry the CM9 the most, especially in cooler weather. The LCP definately has it's place to me, but if I could have only one it would be the CM9. You made the right decision. Now get out there and shoot it and tell us all about it.

Ditto. I have an LCP, a P3-AT and a CM9. Between the P3-AT and the LCP, I carry the P3-AT because its trigger is better, resulting in better accuracy for me. Between the P3-AT and the CM9, it comes down to which one suits my clothing and the weather better. Generally, the P3-AT is my summer carry, and the CM9 is my choice for the rest of the year. As Pocket Pistol said, both have their place.

Welcome and good choice. I also have a P3at and as mentioned it's not fun to shoot and it is what it is. But it has it's place in my collection. I have the PM9 and like the CM9 it's a great pistol. Here's my take on buying a new Kahr. Take it for what it's worth as we all have different ways of doing things. First thing is read your manual front to back then all the stickies on this site. Do not be in a hurry breaking your new pistol in. IMO will be much happier if you shoot 50 rounds through it take it home and clean and lube it then shoot another 50 and repeat till your convinced that it is broken in. I'm a big believer in cleaning and lubing and breaking guns in slowly. It has worked for me everytime, and really what's the hurry. It might take anywhere from 3 to 300 rounds as no two pistols are alike. If you do have any problems make sure it's not something your doing as sometimes these smaller guns take some time to get used to. I'm sure any problems the gun might have will pretty much work themselves out in time. Good Luck and welcome.

Check out the Taurus 738 TCP 380. Slide locks back on last round, has a lifetime warranty, has a light, smooth trigger, is more pleasant to shoot than the LCP and P3AT, and the slide lock lever only sticks out 1/8" yet works well (the one on the P380 is gigantic, IMO). I got the plain Jane version from Bud's for $191. I am very pleased with it

I agree that the CM9 is a better firearm generally than the LCP. However, with this very hot weather we are having and the draw string shorts and t-shirt I have been wearing the LCP and the Remora holster works well for me. Just sayin'.
