I am a brand new Kahr owner, though I have been in the market for years! I am going to be picking up my P40 tomorrow afternoon. (California's 10 days grace period.) My question for all of you is in regards to an IWB holster. I will soon be medically retiring from the Marines and moving back to Ohio with my wife. I intend to make my full size Kahr my daily carry and want to know your personal recommendations on what works best? I have done a bit of research, but really want some personal experience behind my buy. I don't mind spending some money on something that feels right, and will last. Thanks in advance for any and all input!

Jason,
You'll find numerous folks here raving about the PJ Holster. (http://pjholster.com/) It's all Kydex and completely disappears. So light you forget you have it on. Very reasonably priced and super quick turnaround.

For my full size beretta, I use "the answer" by tucker gun leather. Very comfortable, conceals well strong side, quick, easy to reholster, and easily adjustable. It's very similar to a crossbreed SuperTuck, but easier to adjust, no leather squeaking, and just all around higher quality.

Welcome to KahrTalk and thank you for your service (from a former Marine... 1962-1966).
Sorry, I primarily pocket carry and have a PM9 so can't help you decide on an IWB holster for your P9.

If you want a really comfortable leather holster you might want to check out James Dean leather holsters. http://kahrtalk.com/showthread.php?t=11704
He is jlaudio29 here on kahrtalk.
His holsters are very well made. Mine is very comfortable after breaking in and molding itself to my side and the draw is great out of the holster.
He is also a great guy too. Check out his work..

I have found this N82 Tactical "Professional" model absolutely perfect for summer carry of my Glock26. Light, durable and very comfy as it keeps the total gun grip away from my body. Slip it on at about 4:00, cover with Hawaiian Shirt or T-Shirt. Great thing about this holster is you don't need an undergarment to keep the gun from rubbing/irritating your skin. Lots of great choices! :)

I'm weighing the options, pretty good selection thus far. I'm especially glad someone mentioned the supertuck. The hybrid/ crossbreed feel seemed to be what I was most interested in, still unsure though. This talk of the PJ Holster is awfully intising! How does one go about determining the positioning desired before ordering? Having never carried, all I could really do is move my gun around the waistband to see where it feels right. Does this seem like an advisable step in the process?!

The PJ Holster with normal cant works best at about 4:00. In that location it disappears it is so comfortable!

I agree with either "The Answer" from Tucker or the "Fusion" from Garrett. I have the Answer for my heavy 1911 after trying a single belt clip that sagged badly. If I happen to get my next gun, a G30SF, I will get the Fusion from Garrett. They also make the Silent Thunder which I have. The thing with 2 clips is the spreading of the belt load which makes a world of difference.

I went through the same thing not too long ago Jason having never carried before I was unsure how much cant or ride height would work best for me. Yes, you can move the gun around and get an idea but really no way to tell till you get it and wear if for a while. You can email the holster maker and ask for advise maybe they can steer you on that.
I have a PJ too and like it a lot. Cool thing about the PJ is if you want to adjust the ride height a bit or cant(tilt) you can heat it up with a blow dryer or head gun and make some adjustments. You CAN just send it back to Paul and he will make the adjustments for you no charge and I had to do just that after deforming mine pretty good. Give me a heat gun and LOOK OUT.....

I'm happy with my crossbreed. After using a few other IWB designs I think that this will be the only type for me from now on.

I REALLY like the Crossbreed mini tuck. They give you 2 weeks to try it out and if you don't like it they'll let you return it. Made the decission to order that much easier knowing I could return it if I didn't like the feel of it.

You can adjust the cant on the crossbreeds as well as the ride height. I've been using one for the last year and love it.

The thing that turns me off about CrossBreed holsters is two clips with crosses on them to attract attention on your belt. IMO, the Kahrs are so small and light that that much holster isn't necessary. But if I were going for that kind of holster, I think I would favor something on this page from Northstar, with options in all leather and leather lined kydex at reasonable prices:

I'm starting to believe that you fellas have finally swayed me. For multiple reasons..
1. Since I was wounded, I've lost A LOT of weight. (Below 140) Thus the real slim dimension of the PJ seems fitting! 2. Seeing how the site is for Kahr Arms in particular, I don't know that I will be too concerned with the weight sagging on my belt too much. Seems pretty tried and true. 3. A not so important factor, but an average 2 week turnaround sounds good to me!
The only thing really keeping me from doing it right now is that I was pretty set on leather.. I don't know if it's the look, or the thought of comfort that had me interested, but it most certainly did.
SHORT STORY: I like the PJ holster a lot, but still wondering if I'd prefer something in leather.

Well, who says you have to stop with just one holster?
I have 6 holsters for my CM9: an Uncle Mike's #3 pocket holster, 3 kydex IWBs from PJ, 1 N82 Tactical IWB and this work of art in leather from James Dean Gunleather.
http://i1230.photobucket.com/albums/ee486/John_England/Miscellanious%20Guns%20and%20Holsters/MyJDHolsterFront.jpg
I have 5 holsters for my S&W 638 Airweight: 1 kydex IWB from PJ, 1 Stays-Put Ultra pocket holster, a beautiful black leather pocket holster and this custom designed tuckable AIWB clip from James Dean,
http://i1230.photobucket.com/albums/ee486/John_England/Miscellanious%20Guns%20and%20Holsters/MyAIWBHolsterCompleted.jpg
and this lined Enhanced Pancake from Lobo.
http://i1230.photobucket.com/albums/ee486/John_England/Miscellanious%20Guns%20and%20Holsters/LoboEnhancedPancakeHolster2.jpg
I have 4 holsters for my Taurus 738 TCP 380: 1 Desantis Nemesis pocket holster, 1 Stays-Put Ultra pocket holster, 1 kydex pocket holster from PJ,
http://i1230.photobucket.com/albums/ee486/John_England/Miscellanious%20Guns%20and%20Holsters/MyPJPocketHolster1.jpg
and 1 backward canted Minimal Snap IWB holster from Sideguard.
http://sideguardholsters.com/holsters/Min%20Snap1.jpg
The Stays-Put Ultra pocket holsters also work wonderfully as AIWB holsters, staying put and extremely comfortable.
And I am seriously considering the Bonneville high rise pancake by UBG for my CM9.
http://www.ubgholsters.com/bonneville.jpg
I have sold a few holsters that I didn't think I'd use, returned a couple for refund when they were not acceptable, and I have a couple of cheap POS ones that are taking up space in my holster drawer.
Who wants to have just 1 holster per gun? ;)

Very cool, espresso! :D I try to emphasize that buying a custom made holster from James is actually an investment in fine art in leather! This man is truly one of the all time greats in holster making! Just not too well known, yet. This is such an advantage to those of us who are lucky enough to know about him now, because when he gets as well known as he deserves to be his holsters will be twice as expensive and there will be a 6 month wait to get one. So, I strongly encourage everyone to get some of his works of holster art for your favorite guns now! :D

This is my James Dean from my earlier post. It's a standard IWB holster with 2 loops.
The gun fits close to the body and high --off my hip bone.
It's easy for me to get my thumb and hand on the guns grip for a great draw.
I have 3 holsters for my CW9 this one, a PJ and a Remora. I like and use all of them. The PJ is thinner and has a great draw after I got the ride height right. Nothing beats my Remora for quick trips to the store. But my James Dean is my favorite.

Just got my IWB from Paul at Holster Pro. Very nice holster. I got his model 577 to fit my PM9 and it fits perfect! Slight cant, rides low, strong metal clip which is good for using with or without a belt. Paul was quick with his response to my questions and was able to ship my holster in two weeks! Paul makes all his holsters in the US of A! He even embossed my initials on the back!

It may not matter to you, but if you ever want to have your shirt tucked in you will need a tuckable holster. That where there's a slot under the clips for the shirt to tuck into so only the clips show. Just something to consider.

I put in my order last weekend for the PJ IWB. I went with the standard vice the tuckable just because it will be my first IWB, and I think I will benefit with the added support. I do intend to get a tuckable in the future because I do enjoy dressing nicely! I'm a newbie though, so have mercy!

You can get it with different types of clips. They have 2 other kinds that are very discrete.

A while back I was looking for IWB CCW for my Kahr PM. I have been carring for a few months now, and i gotta say, after all the IWB i have had, this one holster is by far the best holster I've owned. The retention is perfect, I sometimes forget I'm carrying. Very comfortable and easy to draw, even with the extra mag pouch attached. Kusiak Leather holsters has five starts. This is their webpage, http://www.kusiakleather.com/store.html . I recommend them !

Mitch Rosen Clipper - my all time favorite for subcompacts. Easy On/Off, straight drop, steel reinforced, best of all, you don't even need a belt!

Cary a P45 and I have tried both an Com-tac Minotaur which I liked, but it was a pain to get on and off and a bit bulky for such a small gun, so I tried a DeSaints Sof-tuk which is real comfortable, but sticks a bit on the draw and is virtually impossible to re-holster. The CLP looks great, but I really like a forward cant for concealability. Any suggestions for a leather holster that stays open for re-holstering and a forward cant?

I was also looking for the same for my CW9 as I need a little cant to better conceal the longer grip (than the CM and G26). I have asked Mitch Rosen if they will custom make a CLP with a mild cant but they declined.
I do have an Alessi TalonPlus which meets my need ... EXCEPT that the patented plastic clip is not for me. I just sold it last week.
I was SERIOUSLY considering a Milt Sparks SummerSpecial II, then bump into a Milt Sparks VMII.. so I am all set :D
