View Full Version : Picked up an MK9

So.. I picked up an MK9 used and an extra 7 round magazine for $550 today. Included the original box (has all the foam) along with all the original manuals and whatnot (even that useless lock, though the bar is missing.. meh whatever).
Owner claims 500-600 rounds. The action is so freaking smooth compared to the CM9.. it's mind blowing. Just holding the gun makes me feel classy. :D
The gun has very little wear, I would consider it to be in excellent condition.
Tore it apart, cleaned up everything I could easily get to. I'm thinking I may want to take out the striker and clean that out, but I'll do that in a couple days since I wont be able to get out to the range until Friday, maybe Saturday.
Interesting observation I've noticed:
The CM9 and MK9 have identical width slides, but the frame on the MK9 is thinner. The MK9 has a thicker slide stop/release, but I suspect that's to offset the thinner frame. Grip is thicker too, but again I suspect for the same reason.
While the CM9 is lighter, I interestingly enough find the MK9 feels flatter in my pocket and just a tad bit more comfortable... though the CM9 will retain its place since sometimes you just want the lightest thing you can grab.

The MK is a great little micro 9. Wait until you shoot it .... hard to believe how sweet it fires. The PM/CM is a great shooter ... but the MK is in another class. Congrats on a great find.

I have had my mk9 for about 14 months that I bought new. It is one of my favorite guns I own the other being mk40. My serial# is GC51XX and I think it is about 3/4 years old. What is the # on yours that can help with dating the gun.

Congrats on the MK9, one of the best subcompacts you can get. On another note, mine is GC6XXX, any clue when it was manufactured?

I don't see GC6xxx listed here:

Previous owner tells me that this MK9 was purchased new 2-3 years ago, and mine is GC6xxx.

Jocko must have been kidding. If you read the serial# thread you see that #66XX is not 10 years old. From what I have read on selling sites I thought that #66XX were some of the latest ones. Kahr must not sell a lot of them because everyone wants poly. Mine was brand new (so to speak) but probably 4 years old but that's ok with me.

"Everybody wants poly." Well then, I'll take an MK9 at a giveaway price please, since no one wants 'em.

Congrats on the gun.
I'll check my serial number on my MK40 Elite when I get home.
Bought it in 2011.
It's like a mini-1911 to me.
I love the all stainless steel gun and it runs like a Swiss watch.
After getting used to the long glassy pull,
the close range SD accuracy from the 3.0" barrel micro is amazing.
I have a Hogue Hnd All Jr inverted grip sleeve on mine I really like.

Thanks Barth. That seems to fit numerically with mine. The store had the gun for a while. One thing odd about mine. It is the stamdard mk40 but it has beveled magwell. The odd part about my mk9 is that it has no takedown notch on the slide but it is on the frame. I guess sometimes Kahrs are unique one gun from another.

Oddly enough I have a lot of difficulty shooting this gun, the CM9 I can manage a 2" group at 10 yards, I can't manage to keep it together all with this MK9. I shoot the CM9, get the good group, put it down, pick up the MK9, and I'm all over the place...

Wow, that's wierd! Is there a different feel to the triggers? Different grip? Different reach to the trigger causing finger placement on the trigger to be different?

Congrats on your purchase. I'm sure you'll love your MK9. If you carry it IWB/OWB you won't know it's there but pocket carry gets a little heavy. I know others may disagree but I don't feel any difference in recoil from my PM9. I thought it would have been different it feels the same to me. Good luck.

I like the pm9 grip surface better and the recoil feels about the same as the MK9 to me - don't know why! The MK9 trigger is a little better and is one of the nicest DA triggers I have ever pulled. Both are GREAT pistols! I agree that the MK9 is a little heavy for pocket carry unless you are real big. Buit in a holster it is just fine.
