Can anyone recommend a good defensive round for the CW45? I've heard from other that Hornady has given some problems in the CW's.
Thanks!

A good bonded standard pressure round like the Speer 230-gr Gold Dot or the Speer Gold Dot Short Barrel... shallower and wider at the base cavity... and the excellent Bonded Remington Golden Saber. The BJHP for the latter is for Brass Jacketed Hollow Point. The bonded ones have a golden scroll with Bonded in it on the box, and GSB in the product number vs. GS for non-bonded. I carry my PM45 with the Short Barrel GD's and I prefer the standard pressure 230-gr bullets.

I prefer the standard pressure Federal 230g HST. Accuracy in my CW45 beats everything else I have tried.
I am partial to Speer Gold Dots myself, especially the 200 grainers in ant short barreled 45 ACP. Remington GoldenSabres are also a good choice. Well hell just about anything in 45 ACP calibre that functions the pitol will get the job done. Don't take my word on it but you could ask the several 100,000 dead Japenses, Germans, north Koreans and Vietnamese as to the 45's effectivness. :D

The Winchester PDX-1 "Supreme Elite" is a darn good bonded round. Winchester has used "Supreme Elite" as a marketing term across the board on top of the line ammo.

I prefer these. They're advertised as safer to use.

The Winchester RA45T non-bonded jhps have fed fine for me in the same piece.
Any decent 230gr jhp that feeds well in your piece and you can consistently/accurately get on target with will be fine for defensive purposes.
I prefer jhp, but honestly if 230gr fmj was all I could find or afford to get at any given time and it fed well, I would not feel the least bit under-gunned carrying them in the .45 as I might with the fmj in other calibers.
Pick what make and model you prefer and try a box or two until you you find what works for you and your piece. They all make big holes.

Your point is well taken and I agree with you. The marketing boys are working overtime to come up with these names. As silly as some of them seem....they work. Critical Defense and Critical Duty are great terms however, Zombie Max might be a bit of a stretch.
To the OP, any good US made JHP round should be effective reguardless of the name on the box as long as you place the shot properly.

Winchester got it from the same place that they got the name "Black Talon" and it's every bit as good, you old fart. It sure beats the hell out of "Zombie Max". I can't wait until I'm old enough to reach curmudgeon status. :)

+1 on the any good USA made JHP, but you don't properly place rounds in a gun fight. You point and pray. :)

I like;
Winchester Ranger T-Series,
Speer GDHP and
Federal HST.
In any caliber, weight and pressure.
For .45s I prefer 230 gr rounds.
And my personal .45 favorite would be Ranger Ts.
That's what I carry in my Sig Sauer P220.

I'm a fan of the Speer Gold Dot short barrel in the 230grn flavor, they are the most accurate round I've fired in both my 4" Kimber and my P45 (with the caveat that I'm still testing defensive loads in the P45...)
I started with the 147grn Gold Dots in my CW9 but found the Hornady 147grn TAP FPD to be more accurate.
As far as bullet performance, any of the leading defensive rounds should work... find one that is accurate and reliable in your pistol and run with it.
