View Full Version : Pat Downs At The Movies?

My heart goes out to the victims at the tragic shooting in Aurora Colorado.

Can we expect pat downs before we can enter a movie theater?

I just don't see an easy solution especially if the evil person is determined to carry out the act of violence.

I think it would be ridiculous.

They don't want to pat down Jonah Falcon like they did at the airport!

Keep in mind, this nut job was dressed normally, bought a ticket and sat in the front row before the previews started. Then he goes out the screen side exit door and tapes over the latch or somehow keeps it from latching shut behind him. Then he goes to his car suits up, gets his weapons and returns through the exit door he disabled.

He would have passed any metal detector, pat down, body scan, etc. They have to secure those exit doors so folks can get out if a fire but not return. Even if they alarmed them would be a fix although they would be plagued by false alarms disrupting movies by smart alec people.

If I'm at the movies, a pat down will not do. I insist on at least a full (monty) grope, or she pays her own way.....

+1
A pat down would not have mitigated this tragedy.
Allowing legally armed moviegoers would have likely lessened the carnage.
If I'm truly forced to disarm, and put myself at risk, just to see a movie?
I think I'll pass.

I can just see the " no concealed weapons allowed beyond this point" signs going up now. There will be an obvious knee-jerk reaction to this by the poor clueless masses, we can all count on it.

NC law already precludes CC in theaters due to provision in the law that says no CC anywhere an admission fee is charged.

wow, that's a silly law.

luckily i'm in AZ and i have't been to a movie w/o my gun in a long time. they have a gun buster sign out front but that's the good thing about concealed.

if it was seen they can ask me to leave and i would.

I agree with you, FireMoose. The point of concealed carry is that it's hidden and nobody knows it's there!

I can carry in my movie theater. No signs posted. Nothing on the books about admission fees or anything.

Time to get a good carbon fiber or ceramic fighting knife,at least you'll have a fraction of a chance. Charge the shooter with a wide open fire extinguisher, smack him with it then start slicing and dicing.... or just rent the damn dvd,it'll be out in a week or two later....

We shouldn't sacrifice our rights to carry because of this event. This guy would have just done something else to create a show. Crazy people, just like terrorist, slowly cause us to loose rights in a feeble attempt to stop them from creating mayhem.

One more place I'm not moving to.

We have a very good conservative majority in Raleigh now, so things are changing fast. Gov. Beverly Purdue will be replaced by a R governor this fall, so that will kick the improvements into overdrive.

I refer to those building posted with no gun signs as free killing zones. My thought is that if you want to post those signs you should be held accountable for the security of the people who enter the building. The people who attended the movie in Aurora were like lambs being led to slaughter. If just was person had been able to return fire the outcome might have been a lot different.

I'm with Muggsy. I wonder what the outcome would have been if 1 armed person returned fire. Seeing as he gave up to the cops without a fight at all, I think several people would have been saved

As long as we endure stupid no gun laws the more we'll want no gun zones. If you think no gun zones, body searches, metal detectors prevents tragedys like this one or others then you think pencills misspell words. Responsibly armed citizens willing to use their weapons are the best crime deterent we have PERIOD... My heads gonna explode from gun dumb people ..ya you.

I don't know how much anyone could have helped. He was apparently in full armor, in a dark theater and had just threw a tear gas/smoke bomb. Your probably there with a significant other and mass hysteria ensues. Your main concern is protecting your significant other, probably by shielding them. I don't think anyone would try to pull a Clint Eastwood. If you get off a few shots he will see the muzzle flash and you will become his primary target.

I don't have personal experience with body armor, but remember the north Hollywood bank robbery when a crap load of cops had a very hard time stopping 2 guys.

Went to the local mall here in Tampa to see the Batman movie this AM.
Most of my cloths are all black and I'm usually heavily armed for a private citizen.
This shooting thingy made me think twice, three times,
as I chose cloths and handguns for going to the mall and theater.

Good News:
No pat downs or even blatant signs declaring "No Weapons".

Bad News:
The movie blows...
