Love my pm45, recoil is very manageable, not bad at all really. But, i can only get about 50-75 rounds through it before it eats the skin off my thumb knuckle. Tried gripping it every which way with no luck.
Any thing I can do differently or can a remove or smooth some material on the left side of the beaver tail with out screwing any thing up?

yup sand away, its ur gun, tune it to fit you. .It is all about being cmfortable with your weapon, . I would before doing any sanding though sgain try some different but good grips to see if u can help the matter any. rembmer whatutake off, u cannot put back on. Just sayin

MY pM9 has been melted, and the grip totally stippled and mag well cut outs also. some will look at it and say it looks like sh!t, but it is my gun and I am comfortable with it the way I have had it done, . I can also say that resale value on my gun would be alot less due to the mods I had done, so take that into consideration when you sand/file/grind off parts of ur gun. Just sayin

Sand. Try some 100 or 120 paper to shape, then some 320 to smooth.

You really dont wanna take much off... just look close, at the spot thats really diggin' ya, or is rough, and smooth that off.

My PM45 Silver (now black KKote) had a really rough seam back there, and there was an uneven surface... its been smoothed up perfectly with sandpaper, and... left sort of "320 grit" which takes the sheen off it that further grit reduction would give.

Also - when sanding - you can use a dowel or small flat as a "sanding block". Take a tip from us guitar finish sprayers... a big "art" eraser (those big flat pink ones) make outrageous sanding blocks where ya gotta blend two surfaces.

heck man thats some rough grit you went with. i used 400 then 200 and finished it off with 1,000 grit. then i took a dremel and some plastic polish and you can't even see the plastic was sanded down.

Got any pictures??

It doesn't look like I need to remove that much. Maybe a sliver just to take the edge off. I already have an A-grip on it but didn't help.

I'd wear gloves, but I like to shoot how I'm going to have to shoot it if I ever need to. I may get brave (drunk) and break out some sand paper...other wise I'll drop it off at the smith. I figured there was a good chunk of material back there, just wanted to make sure.

Thanks guys!

Well... maybe its me, but I've lots of experience sanding stuff!

I hadda remove some material - uneven edges - maybe 1mm of material. All of that also had to be shaped a bit to make it nice, and symmetrical, and rounded and comfy. Then left a little "fuzzy" with the 320g. The fuzzy worked off to a nice matt finish, blends reasonably well.

I agree with not taking much off. The corner of my CW45's frame would dig into my side when carrying inside the waistband and during extended range sessions would become noticeable where it contacted my thumb when shooting. What I did was knock a small amount of the corner's point off. It's a small amount (really not all that noticeable), but has made a big difference when carrying and shooting the gun.
Here's a photo to illustrate (unmodified frame on the left, red area highlights the material removed):

It doesn't look like much, but as I look at my gun right where you took material off I can see remnants of my skin :( I'll be doing the same soon.
