View Full Version : Mossburg 500
Just got a Mossburg 500 shotgun.
Went into Gander Mountain, asking for a short barrel scattergun, 12 bore, 3 points or less, shoulder stocked repeater, manually operated.
They had no clue.
Translation.....
Giimme a pump shotgun, with a modified choke or if possible more open. Shoulder stock, no ammo (please).
~~~~~~
Anyway got the 500, on a whim. Nice metal patina. DD from Indiantown oak la lea lea the Donald Ross Road.
No pics = no gun :p
I have always shot 500's since a kid, and currently have the 28" 535 (shoots 3.5" magnums. ouch) and a 500 tactical persuader for HD. I have never, in tens of thousands of rounds, had one failure.
I had the use of a Mossburg riot gun - called it the "bumble-bee" due to its very light yellow stock, and the forestock having deep ribs cut into it - which were dark. Never failed. Then again, neither has any 870 ever failed on me (but they're all prone to short stroking jams).
Picture Saturday nite.
Ended up getting a crate of ammo too, just target loads.
Kmart/Walmart or some other mart
stopped selling guns and ammo here about 15 years ago.
Sold all their stuff at cost.
My two best friends and I got Mossy 500s for $149.
Came with a pistol grip and a plastic shoulder stock.
Also some freaking plug that reduced the round count in the tube.
Why would you want to do that?
Anyway, removed the plug and shoulder stock and dispossed of them.
Put on the pistol grip.
And I still have the gun today.
Actually just bought a brick of LE Federal slugs - just in case.
You legally have to plug it to only hold 3 shells maximum to hunt doves and other migratory birds.
I've been a Mossberg user since my first shotgun too. I like them better than the 870's.
I concur with Les, we have to limit the capacity for Duck hunting etc.
Hey! Since we are discussing shotguns . . . wouldn't a nice semi-auto be nicer to have in threatening situation? I guess cost makes them less attractive. Certainly, that is why I own a pump, but wouldn't just pulling the trigger a few times without worrying about short stoking under stress be useful?
But you just don't get that sound you get from pumping that makes a BG crap their pants! :eek:
I always leave an empty chamber just for that very reason. Racking that first round in is a universal language, clearly understood and feared in any language.
During my brief time behind a gun counter we always announced when we were gonna rack a shotgun. You hear it a million times and it still gets your attention.
We are thinking alike: a semi-auto. I also want it in 20 guage. I was looking at the Weatherby SA-459 TR (http://www.weatherby.com/product/shotguns/semiauto_tr/sa459_tr), but it's kind of expensive. Then, el chupo pointed out the Mossberg SA20 (http://www.mossberg.com/products/default.asp?id=37). Looks like the exact same gun at a lot better price. Seriously considering it.
Edit: Sorry. The picture there doesn't show the pistol grip. Just click "MORE MODELS" once to see it.
The BG will never hear the sound of mine racking unless he/she (gotta be PC) is still hearing/breathing after the first shot.
I like the bolt/slide back, but a round sitting there ready to be chambered. Pickup the shotgun, slide 'er forward, and you're good to go.
Universal language... my across the street neighbors don't understand even that. They have their own dialect on everything.
So long as we are dreaming, I kind of like the heavier (7.5 lb) 12 gauge 930 too. ;)
No, just have a Mossy 500.
Just dreaming like you...
And if we are dreaming I'll take a Benelli Super 90.
