Peace officer is the same thing as a police officer. Texas calls it a peace officer certification because it is the state certification and all peace officers (deputies, state troppers DPS, and public safety officers who have to get certified in Fire EMS/Paramedic and Police Officers have to go through this certification to work in the state of Texas.

I had a good friend finish the police academy near the top of his class.
He had the idea he could pick what department he would work for.
I tried to tell him; with no experience and your first job,
just get in the door anywhere - even reserves.
You don't pick the job, the job picks you.
One of his instructors recommended the city reserves and gave him his card as a recommendation.

He knew other county sheriffs to get recommendations from.
And thought he had an in at some specific departments.
Took the tests at several selected departments.
Didn't want reserves. Didn't want to work for the city.
Didn't like certain of uniforms.

Months went by. Years went by.
And eventually the the window closed on the timing of the certification.

Sad really.

I wish this guy the best of luck in his new profession.
Just hope he doesn't make the same mistakes my friend did.
