Fox News is reporting the the U.S. Marines have just placed a 22.5 million dollar order for 1911 A-1 Pistols because of their accuracy and stopping power. Semper Fi!

I am pleased that the regular boots on the ground will get the 1911's. The elite units in the military have never done without the 1911's as they are specialized enough that they get whatever they want. It does not even go out for bid the units sole source by name brand.

I have never known standard mil-spec 1911's to be any paragon of accuracy but they get the job done.

The Colt they chose looks like a Kimber Desert Warrior. If they are anything like the Kimbers, accuracy will NOT be a problem. Not too excited about the "paint job", but "Hey, it's a tool" rather than a show piece.

It's all over the gun forums.
Everybody is arguing and the place is buzzing - LOL!

I carried my Sig P220/45 and two 10 round extended mags today in honor of the event.
I know it's not a 1911.
But it's the closest thing I've got.

Forgot how much I love that gun.
It carries quite nicely cross draw.
And the P220 only weights ~5+ oz more than my P239 compact.

Damn right I do. In fact I think I need another full size, maybe one with a rail, or maybe a true MILSPEC complete with pathetic sights and spur hammer. I'll have to see what happens when the wind blows me to a department.
