Mentioning rust makes me wonder if your K9 might be one of the early carbon steel models.

carbon steel? what the hell is that?
the back of my gun has a dividing line of the metal parts that isn't seen on my cw9 or other kahr k9 i have seen, wish i could post a pic somehow

This is an early carbon steel K9. Note the non-machined, (flat), area above the trigger guard on the frame. Does your K9 look like this one?

Or... does it have a machined, (thinner), frame in front of the trigger guard like this one.

hi ripley, thanx for your help... great
my black k9 has the thinner frame like the bottom picture... so i guess it's a stainless steel one then...

The picture you posted shows your K9 to be the older style as shown in the top photo of my post, (the black K9 with the smooth wood grips). I suspect your slide is carbon steel. I recommend a product called Eezox to control surface rust on your new gun. Enjoy it and be safe.

oh you are right, i am a little slow, sorry,
ok fine with me, guess i will have to get some eezox this weekend then,
but on the bright side i am lucky i can even find a used black k9 at all,
i can tell the gun was shot very little as the slide is much tighter than my cw9 which has only 100 shots through it,
thanks again guys,

I really like my carbon steel K40! Keep your K9 clean and lubed and don't worry about the former rust issue.

agree with sharpetop. hell what did we all do 30 years ago when stainless steel was just a word and never on a gun. WE TOOK CARE OF OUR BLUE STEEL WHEELGUNS.

yea i am happy either way... i compare the k9 to my cw9 and i can see that the k9 was meticulously finished during production bc everything just look and feel smoother and much better detailed... although my cw9 hasn't ever given me one single problem in terms of function it doesn't clik and fall in place exactly like the k9... i am very happy i picked this up... my next venture is the cm9 and can't wait

well i just weigh my k9 without the mag, and it weighs 758 grams so rougly 26.5 oz... is that heavier than the stainless steel model? according to kahr site the k9 is 23 oz
and my scale is not off either since my cw9 and other guns weigh as advertised...
while we're on the topic... why does the cm9 weight almost as much as a cw9 and... why the mk9 weighs as much as a k9...
that's why i am piking up a cm9 and not an mk9 when an mk9 weighs the same as an k9...

It could also be the scalloped version of the newwer model K9 were alittle lighter. Might also be that carbon steel is heavier than stainless steel.
ur gonna like the cm9, trust me on that. u won't even know ur carrying it...
Thge CW series is about 1.8 ouncesheaqvier than the cm series. close to 15% more in weight. The cw series is also a very smll semi by most standards, certainly a ultra lightweight semi for sure..

I would humbly suggest that your scale is more accurate than than Kahr's stated specs. With the MK at 23 oz. and the T at 28 oz, it is natural to conclude that the K is between those two. Therefore your 26.5 looks correct.

not only the weight difference has me questioning but the quality difference i noticed, for instance the mags on my cw9 and my k9 are totally different in terms of build quality... the k9 mags (all original) are very solid as compared to the cw9 mag, which has a very loose base with lots of play on it... wonder if the older production line was more quality oriented or the production line had a higher tighter tolerance built into the system

They could have been getting their mags made by a different manufacturer back then.

Yeah. I suspect Kahr only stamps the slides that are going to be coated black. Can't say that with any authority but, my plain stainless PM40 is not stamped stainless while my black DLC PM40 is stamped stainless. Might be a pattern. Might not be . . . but there it is. ;)
