View Full Version : Fnh 45 ....
I was in line at dunkin donuts this morning getting my usual cup of coffee. There was a local policeman caring an FN 45 2 tone, so I asked him about ite. He said they just got permission to use them, and that most guys stopped usung the issued glock 45 in favor ofthe Fn even though they had to buy their own.
I think I gotta revisit thi.gs. Maybe ditch my P220 in favor an FN.

I have fired one and like it. However I would never trade in my XD45 Tactical for it in uniform carry tho. To each their own.

Was it the hammer fired model?

FN makes some fine guns.
And I may well get another .45 at some point.
But my classic Sig Sauer P220 isn't going anywhere.

I just picked up an FNX-9. My first FN. For the money those are some very fine guns. Fully ambi, and very accurate. I havent shot the .45, but the controls and "feel" are much the same. Tough to compare it to a p220 though since the FN is much chunkier. The extra capacity is defenitly worth it on duty though. The FN (and p220) are MUCH better fighting guns than a Glock or XD. You have options with the DA SA hammer fired weapon that you dont with the striker guns. (2nd strike capability, blocking trigger, blocking hammer). Obviously being in a hand to hand fight with a gun means you screwed up somewhere, but for LEO's, its a very real possibility. For that reason, I say the FN is a sweet option.

FN makes good, solid guns. They are one of the largest and oldest gunmakers, made most of the Browning guns for many decades.
I surmise that the LEOs might like the idea of a traditional hammer fired trigger mechanism over the striker fired Glock. It has real second strike capability and can be decocked, yet fired in DA mode for the first shot.

I have had a 357 Sig round require a second strike from my DA/SA Sig P239.
That hasn't happened yet with the Glock G27 or Kahr MK40.
But no second strike capability does give me pause for thought.
I've been seriously considering some flavor of HK LEM for my next pistol.

Sure a lot of us who have experienced boat accidents. Mine took a real beating last week in the storm before it went down with all my toys.
Perhaps we need to create some sort of boater safety training right here for our own benefit?

They're all hammer fired. One model is decocking safety. Another model is choice of cocked and locked or decocking... which is really nice, since you move the safety to safe first, and can leave it there, or... keep moving it, and its decocked at the next detent. They also do the latter model in a "tactical" grade with elevated sights and such.
After the middle of the month, I'll call up Buds or CDNN and see what they have.
Good god....
Everyone thought the FNX (9 and 40) was the improved version, based on the FNP-45.
Same features. Now I see they have a new FNX-45 in the works, slated for September, and the magazines are not compatible with the FNP-45. Sigh. Wait for the new one I suppose.

If the FNX 45 becomes reality, it may replace my Sig 220 as a duty weapon. Only problem will then be finding a level III retention holster for it....hmmm...

The new FN FNX-45 is the result of years of innovative product development and advanced engineering techniques. Modeled after the FN FNP-45 service pistol introduced in 2007 under the U.S. Joint Combat Pistol Program (JCP), the FNX-45 is a double-action/single-action hammer-driven pistol with highly enhanced ergonomics. Its manual safety/decocking levers, slide stop levers and magazine release buttons are all fully ambidextrous for ease of operation with either hand and from any firing position. Both the slide and barrel are stainless steel. The FNX-45’s checkered polymer frame has multiple interchangeable backstraps with lanyard eyelets. A MIL-STD 1913 mounting rail on the underside accepts tactical lights and lasers.
