View Full Version : Finally took the plunge...CM40 on the way

After a lot of back and forth, I sold my 9mm Shield and bought a CM40. The Shield was a great pistol but it didn't offer enough benefits in concealability over my G27 to justify keeping it and not having a more cargo shorts pocket and bicycle jersey pocket friendly CM9/40. (I know I will probably regret selling it, just can't afford both right now)

Had a tough time between the CM9 vs CM40. The CM9 was actually the more logical choice but I kept coming back to the fact that I wanted the CM40 more. Oh well, if I don't like the CM40, I'll sell it to fund a CM9!

Ordered the CM40 from Bud's with a spare 6rd mag and Nemisis Pocket Holster(great prices). Also found an outfit that had Winchester PDX1 165gr in stock at a good price so I'll have some more of that on hand when she gets here too.

Hopefully it will be in house at my local FFL next week.

Report to follow.

Sounds like you're good to go with that pocket powerhouse! Check out the stickies in the Kahr-Tech section on proper prep and lube chart.

and in a little while you could always get the 9 so you can practice more. 9s are a little cheaper to shoot.

I have a CM9 and a PM40. I STILL shoot the PM40 more than the CM9, just because it is so dang accurate to shoot for a little gun. The CM9 is excellent also, but my PM40 was my first Kahr and it was used, and I got a good deal on it, so I am still partial to it. I could do with one or the other, but I really like the 40. But I don't shoot it much, once or twice per month, maybe 20-30 rounds. I will shoot the 9 more when I shoot it...but the 40 is just more fun to me. I predict you will really like your CM40.

I don't understand the "can't afford both right now" part of your explanation? I think somebody just wanted a new gun, yes-sir-re-bob...Congrats on the new CM40, should of kept the Shield too.

Well........ I have a todler and can't justify or afford to pull funds from the bank account for a new pistol but I can sell one - buy one at this point.

Good news is my little three year old girl said she wants to go hunting with me this year. :)

And thanks by the way......I like most here, did want a new gun too! ;)

New news is that I was able to pick up my CM40 earlier this week.although I'm home dealing with the after effects of a migraine today.

My holster and magazine also showed up too, but I'm disapointed in the Nemesis holster. It is sized for the larger Kahr pistols so there is nearly an inch that sticks out beyond the CM40's muzzel and grip. Negates the smaller pistol size. $15 down the toilet.

Someone sent you the wrong Nemesis. Mine fits my PM40 (same size as your CM40) very well. Return it, if possible.

I'll bet they sent the holster intended for the CW40, rather than the CM40.

I've looked into this a bit further. What I found so far is that DeSantis web site specifies the model #N38BJMKZ0 as the Nemesis holster for the CM/PM40. The one I ordered is the same (N38BJMKZ0) and states on the package that it fits "Kahr K9/40, P9/40, MK9/40, Pm9/40, PM40". I wonder if DeSantis 'consolidated' their product lines and are now only making the one model that fits both the 3" and 4" model Kahrs. Great, another good product ruined in the name of cost-cutting. Save a few cents and lose more money by losing customers (me).

I'm going to see if I can email Desantis to get an explanation and voice my dissatisfaction.

Ok I sent this:

On your web site the Nemesis holster that is specifed for the Kahr CM40 is model #N38BJMKZ0. As such I ordered one from the retailer that I bought my CM40 from. The holster, #N38BJMKZ0, is nearly an inch longer and wider than my pistol. This negates the reason I bought the sub compact CM40 since with the holster, it is now the size of a 4" barrel pistol when in my pocket. Do you make a Nemesis holster specifically for the 3" barrel CM40 or should I look for another holster maker. Sorry, but not happy at all.

I've posed this question on the Kahr forum and one person replied that he had a Nemesis holster that properly fit his PM40. Did Desantis stop making one specifically for the shorter barrel pistols to consolidate your product lines?

Well, I surely would. I hate that tendency of large volume holster makers to consolidate, like when I got a nice lined belt holster from Tagua for my CM9, but it was so loose that my gun would fall out if I tipped it over. Then, I noticed on the package that it was specified to fit the PM45. I sold it to a member who has a PM45 and it fits great. But I am done with Tagua, High Noon and most of the other overly large makers. Now, I like the little one man operations that custom make holsters to fit your gun when you order them, when I am buying leather holsters.

Here is a pocket holster that wil fit your CM40 properly, will print much less than the Nemesis, and stays put better than any pocket holster I have ever tried. It is the Stays-Put Ultra (http://www.concealmentspecialties.com/products.html) and it is just $14.95 shipped.

We do not offer any holsters for the Kahr CM9 nor do we list that pistol on our website. We do not have a mold of that weapon here in the factory to try it in our pre-existing sizes to be able to advise of a fit for that weapon. We will add your request to the suggestions list for you.

I have one for my CM9 w/CT and it works just fine. I actually used it tonight when I grocery shopped. It stays put when seated in the car etc. Looks like a wallet in your front pocket. Carry on.

I'll get some photos of the holster later this week when I'm not working. Had her to the range today. I'd say she is a keeper. Bit small for the hotter loads of 476fpe but is managable. Had some problems with slide locking back before empty. Found my thumb was bouncing into release lever in recoil. Changed grip slightly and problem went away. Need a very tight hold to keep pistol from shifting in recoil and the checkering is rough on the hands when doing 250+ rounds. Had three failures to feed on first few mags. None for 200+ rounds. I think I'll use my milder Federal Hydra Shocks for carry until I get a bit more trigger time. Had a variety of FMJ practice ammo. Mild 165gr; hot 155gr, hot 165gr, mid 180gr. One down side is that my follower on my 5 round mag broke after 225 rds. Swapped it with the one from the 6 round mag and will have to give Kahr a call to get a replacement or two.

Overall a nice day at the range.

Also picked up a Blackhawk pocket holster that should do until I get my Alabama Holster since Desantis looks like they are not going to have a current production holster I can use. But, we will wait to see for sure since I've sent them another email.

Gary,

I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you and I would also like to apologize for the response you received in regards to your original email. In reference to item N38BJMKZ0, it is not a mold specific holster,it is a generic fit that also accommodates the KAHR K40, K9, MK40,MK9,PM45, Kel Tec PF9 & Ruger SR9C. Unfortunately we do not have a size in the nemesis that is molded specifically to fit the Kahr CM40 or PM40. We never offered the nemesis specifically for the PM40 in the past but the design of that holster has changed over the years to accommodate the different weapon models.

Looks like I'll have to forget about the Nemesis for pocket carry. They made the holster bigger to fit the 4" barrel models and ruined its usefullness for the more compact 3" models. It's a shame since I use one of this model for my G27 all the time. Wouldn't buy another of this brand unless I could try it out to see if it would fit first.

for what it's worth, the Remora holster works great, I use my CM40 in it. It's nicer than the DeSantis really.
